I liked Jack and all the different characters he played and his humor in “Support Your Local Sheriff “. He helped make the picture what it was. He aged brilliantly with the characters he played, genuine.
That was a great story. I'm from Oklahoma and I'll go by and see Jacks memorabilia and display at the Cowboy hall of fame. I've seen it before but I love going to that place. I've been so many times and each time I'm moved
Jack had what was called a wall eye. The muscle that moves the eyeball to the right had been cut loose from the eyeball, and back then there was not much that could be done for the eye. I've had seven operations on my eyes, 6 on one and one on the other. There will be some movement on the eye, probably by the muscle on the other side of the eye and the other 2 muscles, one on top and one on the bottom.
jack Elam's was one of the best actors in tv movies the should have done an AFI film tribute to him he is one of my favorite actors he should be in every hall of fame in the industry thanks jack Elam for all the entertainment R.I,P
when "the night of the grizzly" was shown on tv out television had a bad picture tube and only had sound. i listened to it in the dark and it was the scariest show i have ever experienced in my life. i am 79 now and love both elam and clint wa;ker. i live near where clint finally settled in Grass Valley , california and saw him several times walking down the streets.
WOW!!! ONE OF THE VERY BEST OF OLD WESTERN ACTORS.SERGIO LEONE CAST MR.JACK ELAM IN ONCE UPON............. CLASSIC STATUS.ALONG WITH BRUCE DERN AND CLAUDE AKINS, JACK ELAM WAS GOOD IN THE BONANZAS AND THE GUNSMOKES AND EVERY WESTER IN BETWEEN.
Jack was THE BEST! He could play any role: good guy, bad guy, sidekick, buffoon, crazy or serious. They broke the mold when the made William "Jack" Elam.
Ya'know, for years that quandary has been keeping me awake at nights, and now someone is here to explain it. Unfortunately I already have things planned for today which are much more important, such as buying some toothpicks and taking a - it rhymes with pump. I'll be sure to watch this later....some time.
As a kid in the late 50s and early 60s I always wanted Jack to be gunned down as a villain. I started liking him later when he played good guy on Gunsmoke protecting some orphan kids and other funny good guy roles as in Night of the Grizzly and on Home Improvement was the last time I saw him. Great Actor and decent man.
Ohhh I loved to watch Jack Elam, especially when he could be so ugly and villainous. He epitomized his villainy in one lead part in a Gunsmoke episode. He was Pack Lander, a drunken wild character who stole some money from Nuns whom he called "black crows". He heads for the saloon all dressed up, goes to the bar and chugs beer, spilling half of it down his beard and clothes. Hung over in a cabin, he wakes up, gargles with some water, and spits it all over the wall of the cabin. He catches the cabin on fire, and suddenly starts yelling for God to forgive him and save him. OMG, how I laughed over all that. This was all classic Jack Elam. He played the villain and reprobate wonderfully. Apparently he was a great guy in real life whom everyone liked. I hope he made a lot of money and had a happy life. He was one of a kind.
Westerns create a cultural context. There's a depth of mythology involved, with it's own archetypal figures, astute and insightful narratives and a world of worthy excerpts and worthwhile quotations.
Always liked Jack Elam,he was one of those character actors you knew the face but didn't always know is name. There were others like him Dub Taylor,Peter Whitney,Strother Martin,Andy Devine,Edger Buchanan, I could go on but these actors weren't times what made the movies rather than the headline actors.
I didn't watch 10 seconds of this video but wanted to comment. I enjoyed both these actors and would like to know the scoop of the disrespect you advertise. But 17 minutes? To tell what no doubt could be told in 2 to 4? I have a real life to live. Bye.
re: His mom's death: the announcer claims she had "general paralysis" which is normally termed "general paresis". From a government educational site (medline plus):: "General paresis is one form of neurosyphilis. It usually occurs in people who have had untreated syphilis for many years."
TWO of my favorite old time actors!.......Both were "Superstars" in my mind!......RIP.....'Big Cheyenne'...&...'Cool' Eye Jack!!!
Classic Hollywood actor, and one I always looked out for in all westerns. R.I.P Mr.Elam.
I did too.
What a remarkable life. I have always liked Elam's acting. Thanks for a great bio on him!
His role in Cannonball Run will always be the scenes that make me chuckle. One of those bring me up when I'm feeling down kind of things. RIP
I liked Jack and all the different characters he played and his humor in “Support Your Local Sheriff “. He helped make the picture what it was. He aged brilliantly with the characters he played, genuine.
Amazing man. Amazing talent. The depth of his real character is overhwhelming.
Jack is a man to be admired
Mr. Jack Elam and Mr. Clint Walker, two of the greatest memories of my childhood and moviedom. Both of you I pray rest in peace.
He was my very favorite…no one did crazy like him!❤
Jack was amazing. In so many westerns he is the one character that made it more than just another western. And I loved him in "the Cannonball Run."
Jack Elam was one of my favorite bad assss actors.
This video really sheds light on the deep bond between Clint Walker and Jack Elam.
We like Jack Elam he was a true professional, extremely talented

I always loved the JE characters back in the day.
One of the greatest western stars.
When I was a kid, he always played the villian in westerns. I didn't know his name, but he was ALWAYS recognizable because of his crazy eyes! 😅
Jack, what a great character.
Such a lovely man 😊❤

Top Billing for this great character actor. Thanks Jack nuff said
15 minutes into this video before we finally start to hear why Clint didn't attend the funeral!!!!!!
He was a great actor and cowboy ...
His comedic prowess appeared to overshadow his villainous roles. Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter are prime examples.
It's astounding that such a big strong, heroic type can be so fragile.
We are probably all fragile when we are old.
The best reason

Shame about the Lone Ranger picture in the 50's and 60s tv western part.
You didn't mention Jack as a card player - Nobody could beat him
He was rubbish at roulette in Support Your Local Sheriff.

Wasn't that one guy on home improvement on one of them episodes?
Considering he was about 40 when he did The Twilight Zone he did a good job playing a crazy old man.
Jack was a good actor I'd like to make a lot of the movies you know I'd get a little mad sometime but it was just a movie
Great actor the good actor nearly all gone all computerised these days not worth watching

Times are what they are... in later years if you cross a friend the results are often unexpected... yet final.
Think!
C'mon - He was the town drunk in HIGH NOON with Gary Cooper in 1951 - He was on his way by 51

He was 70ish and in poor health.
