I know you'll probably won't ever see nor read this Mike however I just want to tell you Thank You. I thank you for doing what you do with Cinemassacre. When I was going thru an awful time in my life and it seemed there was no way out of the abyss, you provided a time machine into my childhood. Hearing the fantastic music, watching 8 & 16 bit graphics and with the humorous commentary it provided the best escape of them all! I don't know what it is but you struck a chord, a chord that I will let ring out for years forward. Thank You Mike.

+Cinemassacre Extras did he ever figure out that the lack of switching while a 1,2 or 3 platform is currently on screen is not a bug or a glitch, its a game mechanic that has been in pretty much every megaman game?
+Howard Morton To me, the original Super Mario Bros is harder than most Mega Man games. At least if you do it without using warp pipes and exploiting extra lives-glitches, because it's generally the lack of infinite continues that ramps up the difficulty.
+Cinemassacre Extras It seems impossible to beat that dragon while your character sprite is constantly disappearing.
+viljamtheninja Have you beaten most of the megaman games. Mario is hard for some and harder without warps but if you are good at jumping these games have way harder jumps and some you need to time the attacks perfectly.
yeah you either rush or take it so slow you might get timed out.
You can't switch weapons after using 1 and 3 because you have to wait till they fade out. It's like that in all mega man games. It's not a glitch.
+elway41177 Well, they fixed that problem in Mega Man 3 when Rush was created. Mega Man 2 was really the only game where it was an issue. And mostly just on Item 3. But you're correct, it's not a glitch. It's directly from MM2.

It wont be patched or fixed... It was a downfall or intent from MM2 and that's the engine this game is based on... You just need to be aware of it and balance you weapon usage around it.

+Curtis Turner Well, not to sound harsh, but James is not a very proficient gamer. (And he's never claimed to be one.) So it is not surprising that he shied away from attempting a perceived tricky maneuver.

+KingFossilFER I guess it doesn't really look like the boomerang, but considering he got the item from Quick Man and it behaves exactly the same, Mike definitely should have tried it sooner. Turns out it didn't work on this version of the dragon anyway.

53:21 Mike, that "game breaking flaw" is actually present in the original Mega Man 2. It's not an exclusive part of this mod. They could have fixed it, though, for sure. Especially considering how often they have you using the 1, 2, and 3 Items here.

+kagerato I did reread what I wrote. I was saying the people who created this hack could have fixed that. I could be wrong about that part, as I don't do coding, but my point was that it was a flaw dating back to the original Mega Man 2.

I really like how unraveled Mike becomes near the end of this video.
At the end of this livestream it became clear to me why I watch these - because everything about them makes me feel as though I am in the room with Mike or James or whomever happens to be in the video. The sofa camera gives the impression of a connection and makes it feel as though you could be sitting across from the player; the colloquial uncut speech, while unpolished, has an air of reality about it, and again gives the illusion that I could genuinely be in the same room with a couple of friends. I felt hard done by just watching this game, and yet I also felt a tranquil wash of relief and pleasure wash over me after Mike beat it. I actually don't know anyone into games this old or homebrews this obscure, so I thank CInemassacre for providing me with a near-genuine level of camaraderie while they play whatever game it is they might be playing - you really do have the perfect formula.
That huge rant about the inability to switch weapons and it totally ruining the game was a huge facepalm for me because you made it clear that you don't know all the original games are like that. It's not something the rom hack devs broke, it's just something they didn't attempt to (or couldn't) fix over the original.
Mike you are being ice cold towards the creator of this mod man. I'm pretty sure the item switching is like that in the original MM2.
+Mick Happé Yeah, I was screaming that at the screen every time he made that complaint. It was in MM2, and was a limitation in the programming of the time. I've even played my original cartridge to confirm this. Mike, why did you not know this fact, considering you say that you play the original MM2 so much?
I just got to say, "U" is the quick boomerang. its used on most of the Wily bosses if you tried it at the dragon, you would have figrued out some other things quicker. but kudos and the leaf shield vs guts tank and bubble lead on dragon, very skill full using those as the substitutes.

I was so intense while watching this game that when mike jumped down the hole in the last stage I screamed MIKE! in the most disappointed way. Lmao. Game looks really hard.
Mike, the U item is the quick boomerang. It moves just like it, you should have been able to identify it. Also, the area that you called Norfair is actually Tourain.

one thing that drove me crazy is when the commenters kept saying "use the quick boomerang...use the quick boomerang" and he kept saying "there is no quick boomerang, quick boomerang isn't in this game. . .there is no quick boomerang!" and he literally tried every weapon...except the "U" weapon.
but then, the fact that nobody in the chat bothered to tell him that the "U" weapon was the quick boomerang, leads me to believe his audience was just as clueless as he was.

Mike. Don't you know that is the way it works in the original MM2? When your Item-1/2/3 is out, you can't switch to another weapon as long as the item is in effect. It's not the modder/hacker that made that "mistake", it's Capcom.
I literally could care less about any other game streamers. Mike and James are my favorite!

+Mike Shelton Yes the rom is available for nes emulators, in fact that's the original incarnation afaik. Not sure where they got a cartridge of it though it's probably not too hard to find or make one.

the main issue watching this is the flickering... not sure if its my 72inch monitor or the refresh rate... or something else from the recording or compression of the video... but stuff flicker so bad in a LOT of places i have trouble even seeing what is going on...
just check out at 55:15 (not talking about the slowdown, thats "normal" in old consoles) but the flickering is just so horrible...
+FireHawkX It's the game itself. It's a hack, so it's clearly not perfect. But you can tell most of the flickering is on their actual screen since Mike and James were both complaining about it from the start. It's definitely tough to look at.
+FireHawkX It's because they stream 60 fps games at 30 fps.
+Fred Crow is that a joke? ;) if so, then its funny... but a ":P" would have implied you were joking... anyway the reason is because NES hardware has a limit of 8 sprites on a single horizontal scanline... most emulators have a single checkbox to "enable" more than 8 sprites... game designers back in the days were very knowledgeable to work around the issue and most developpers would test to make sure no occurance happened in the game... homebrew are most of the time done using computers and did not take actual console in mind when making them! :)
+FireHawkX umm, the sprite flicker was a problem on the NES, yes, but what makes it worse is the refresh rate...just as was stated in the reply you thought was a joke.
+tightlypackedcoil wow only 3 months ago... lol... i had forgotten about this ;) ... but... the reply in question stated "stream 60 fps games at 30 fps"... old megaman game is NOT a 60fps game :) nor were any NES games back then... and yes sprite flickering was a problem on NES because of the sprite limit on a single scanline... most emulators theses days have a small checkbox that fix this... perhaps the fact that our modern monitors refresh rate being 60 and up makes the flicking a bit worse than old 29.97fps intelaced tv...

I've been practicing MM2 glitchless speedruns for about a year and watching Mike play this kinda makes me want to die. I watched it tho.
My friend and I always called MMs arm cannon a P-Shooter! (Think it actually stood for Plasma Cannon, though.)
I'm always putting videos of you guys before going to sleep, it helps me alot :P ( not saying you are boring, cause I actually watch it when I'm awake too ahah, just try to help with the views ^^ )

for such a difficult game the dragon boss is more fair than in mm2 where any collision with him is fatal no matter how much energy you have

This game was a kool mod. You should find Holy Diver,its a castlevania-esq type game with Metal legends Ozzy,Dio Randy Rhodes in it.

I like how fast you can climb ladders in this game. Now if only people would realize 3 is the best in the series with four at a close second and do more and better mods of those i would buy em lol im happy with the many actually good megaman mods there are always fun to play a new megaman game
