@@ben_chao It makes sense. The combination of weather and quality of Chinese restaurants outside of a heavily built up city makes Canada the most likely place.
I like how Darien is being open minded and trying things he would normally never try. Not backing down and actually giving it a shot. Shout out to him.
@@CantoMando What about a Czech food? His Texas based food is at least partially based on Czech foods...and we also eat a lot of black sausage, beef tripe soup and tons of (smoked)fatty meats. I know Czech cuisine can be monotonous and boring compared to vibrancy of Korea or China but it would be interesting to see anyway.
Darien is such a happy, positive and wonderful guy! If we all had a Darien in our life it would be much better. I'm definitely looking forward to him returning in the future.
For those trying to learn chopsticks, you only move the top stick, not the bottom one. It works kinda like a lobster claw - one fixed and one pinches down. The base of your thumb and ring finger pinches the bottom chopstick steady, while the middle, index, top of the thumb move the other chopstick. You use the top of the thumb as the point of rotation (fulcrum) of the lever, and the middle and index finger just flexes up and down to move the chopstick.
Or you can just do it the easy way and hold it like a pen and finesse you way into opening and closing it. Been doing it my whole life and never had a problem with it despite my dad's constant reminder I'm holding it wrong.
I think that's one of the best ones yet I like how you made a sauce for darien as he'd probably have little idea about what to mix and what he likes. Also throwing stuff in letting it just unfold in a more natural way is very nice imo
The possibilities with Darien are endless! All the Chinese cuisines, Asian cuisines… how about Darien world tour 🤣 Also love seeing Mike in his element, he is a great host and visibly enjoying it
I absolutely love this type of content. Makes my day better. Nothing like seeing people learn and enjoy good food at the same time! Makes me giddy on the inside :)
"Fork and a knife for the n-... (Stuttering...) (Probably editing out long pause) ...American here" Nice cut/save on his part lolololol, this dude is hilarious and such a good guest. I want more of him on your channel, you should take him to China!
I’m so glad you’re showin Darien a part of our Chinese culture!! 😊 Love it when Darien’s in the videos and love that he likes hot pot!! Need to see more of vids of y’all together trying new foods from each others cultures, such as other Chinese dishes or different Southern food from Dariens Culture. Also so glad Darien liked the golden bricks 😂 that used to be my favorite dessert as a kid 😋
You guys just enhanced the channel with this newer content. Great job! Been watching and following throughout it all. I do want to see hooping videos too.
Yeah, when it comes to restaurants I don’t really do much sauce. The broth is pretty strong as it is, and it’s plenty tasty without sauce. However at home hot pot I do use sauce a lot because my parents always used very weak broths, or sometimes just water. So it was very bland otherwise.
Loving this new era of videos! Keep up the good job. Darien has such great energy, always fun watching him in videos. You should bring him to dim sum next
love what you guys are doing here, keep it up! Darien is just such a chill and respectful individual and if he hasn't already I think the whole yum cha experience would be fun to watch!! Much love from Australia!
I said this in the last vid a long time ago and it was the first thing that popped in my mind - this man Damien reminds me so much of MJ. I think it’s his charisma, his look, and the way he sounds reminds me of so much of MJ. He got that MJ swag man.
A new hotpot method I love to order is the thin gruel pot where you cook everything in a very thin porridge and when it thickens enough, it's full of flavour from meat, fish, veggies, etc, and you finish the hotpot meal with the porridge that cooked everything.
The way I teach most westerners to use chopsticks as a beginner is not exactly proper style but it tends to build momentum and encouragement immediately. I tell them to take one chopstick and put it at the base of their thumb a little bit above half way. This chopstick is the one you keep still. Then while that one is there hold the other one just like a pencil. And this is because moving a pencil with precision is something we have spent years doing and those muscles are developed. The grip is a bit off, and will tend to get tiring earlier, but its very easy to get someone started and with practice they will slowly just shift into a slightly better position over time. And then I tell them it's okay to also use a fork, your hands, be a bit off, it's not something you should worry about...the point is having fun and enjoying the food, not how you eat it.
It's surreal to me that you picked Haidilao, I go to that neighborhood once in a while to the mall in that same plaza for a taiyaki and a wintermelon tea after a haircut.
The sauce has two purposes, the first is being an extra flavor to the things you eat, ie, being a sauce. The second is to cool down the food you are about to eat
Darren, my dude, you do NOT want water after spicy food! The water will just make it worse! Go for milk (or milk tea if they've got it which they probably do) instead. Dairy kills the burn.
I know alot of people say they never had watercress but if you have ever drank V8, then you have. I don't think V8 is as popular as 20 years ago so most people prolly never drank that.
I Appreciate and respect your open mind, Darien. I'm not a heat guy, either. A lot of my homies are Indian and this longhaired whiteboy could have some trouble with their cooking. Thankfully, I am a chemistry guy. The best thing to counteract spice is vanilla ice cream. it will cool your mouth down to stomach, the alkaline action of the cream will counteract the acid and make the heat less intense. real vanilla is better if you can find it. People use big, fat salt crystals and savory cheese to reset their palate after tasting wine. Do something like that, too, and it'll get anything too funky you have in your mouth gone. after that, it is something that is artificially grape-flavored, gum is great. My coworker pharmacist is one of the people that is on the drug testing in the olympics. she told me that after I accidentally got Cleocin powder in my mouth. the suspension tastes nasty, everyone hates it. she smiled when it happened, like "I got you, buddy". She had only had Indian friends for 1/4 of her life. "I got you too, buddy". I told her how i survived growing up because i hit the heat from the two ways. she already did the ice cream, but isn't a drinker. was a competitive athlete. when i said it, she thought "that makes sense." She suddenly liked spicy things when she was afraid of eating with them before. that's not a thing you hear a lot of Germans say. Lol. She's real damn smart, and smart folks don't care where something comes from if it helps.
My great grandfather opened the first Texas BBQ restaurant in El Paso, Texas in 1909. He became a Texas celebrity because of his secret brisket recipe. But he almost ran into some legal trouble when the secret of his brisket recipe was divulged to the public by one of his disgruntled employees. The employee revealed that the secret was as follows: every morning at 5am my great grandpa would stick a large piece of brisket into his own rear end hole, then he would let it marinate in there until 10am, at which point he would carefully pull it out and put it into the smoker, where it would slow cook until the restaurant opened for dinner. When law enforcement found out about this they came to arrest great grandpa, but when they smelled the brisket in the smoker they couldn't resist. So instead of sending him to jail, the police officers decided to stay for dinner. Great Grandpa once said he reckoned he'd stuffed over 7000 pounds of brisket into his rear end hole in all the years he operated his famous restaurant, and he said every pound was more than worth it, because he loved serving quality food to his beloved customers.
