as someone with a fascination and love for oversize/special transport, idk what i love more about this video. seeing the Ruston head home to get a second chance at life, and seeing how they load and transport this sorta stuff are both equally cool.
i used to drive the 1946 version of the old Ruston at Dioxide Grimsby Humberside in the 1990s, The only difference was ours where compressed air started i believe they are now at the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway
I know this is a total aside, but I have to say it anyway: the words "HST" and "Hertiage Railway" Genuinely do not compute together in my head. That aside, I'm glad she made it to the railway safe and sound.
Congratulations on saving another wonderful piece of British engineering. Also congratulations on your cinematography, the quality of the drone shots was especially pleasing and really added to the overall spectacle. 👌
considering your 48s and the 165 have the same wheel configuration, it's just silly to see the size difference between them. also it'd be massive to one day see a model of this guy like you were able to achieve with the 48. i was able to eventually nab a pre order, and i'd do the same for this engine in a heartbeat!
Thank goodness this loco has been saved! When I was a kid there were loads of locos like these around and all too easily, because there are loads of them, there's little interest or priority in saving them. One by one, they vanish under the cutter's torch and suddenly it's too late! Well done Lawrie and team! Saving our heritage...
Another fantastic video, and one I can totally empathise with as I have recently done this with a class 73. The stress and tension of going up the ramp and onto the trailer (the rarest track I will ever have) is quite something, as the knowledge that if it all goes wrong you have a hell of a drop and a very broken loco weighs on your mind a bit! I also had one of its owners watching on, which added a bit of pressure. Its also quite something to look over the desk and see nothing but the floor whilst pointing up at quite an angle... I also did it with a class that means something to me, as the first locomotive I ever drove was a 73. I am glad that the move went well, and am looking forward to seeing the next steps 😀
This was awesome!! Although I think there was a missed opportunity to parent with the chaos who loved a loco with steam traction engines. All the same, awesome to see the move and to see her at her new home

A few things from me for this fantastic video. 1. How on earth did you manage to get parked in so many lay-bys on the A120. Everytime I go past they are always choc-a-bloc with lorries. And 2. I wish I knew you were going that way, I work on that roundabout by the McDonald's. I could of got some photos. It passed me by without me knowing. Glad it arrived safe and sound. Also, in idea for the future. I believe you mentioned it worked for British sugar (hopefully I remembered that right), you could have a special gala day with the ruston and Wissington from the north Norfolk as a sugar special or something. Just a random thought.
Happy to see it saved. Hope to see this as an O Gauge model and some OO gauge ones that could raise funds for its restoration. BR Blue livery. Maybe BR Sectors Triple Grey would be a nice livery. Just something nice and unique.
Im kind of surprised more railways dont have some sort of loading dock arrangement built-in these days. Picture a siding aligned to the height of a grounded trailer, locos, rolling stock can roll on/off.
Would it be possible to put some side/front/rear photos and measurements of the Ruston up somewhere for those of us who would like to try and make a model of the loco we helped have a starting point? (Unless someone already happens to have design drawings for it somewhere?)
Glad its at its new home, more glad I didnt have to explain to my other half on what silly thing friends and I brought Hahahaha Awesome its part of the LMM fleet
I believe at the moment the 165 is still on the sidings at Whitwell and Reapham Light Railway. If she's not outside then the loco will be in the maintenance shed undergoing the next part of restoration.

Used to watch there 08 shunter every day pass by a few times a day with ici lime stone hoppers. The 08 shunter still remains my all time favourite to this day..... Any chance I could come and see your loco..... Cheers great vlog

I do wonder what combination of headlights and taillights would fit on this loco. Single headlight on either end or two or three on either end, and then full headlights or just marker lights. But definitely atleast one red taillight on either end.
Regulation headlights. Normally one doesn't get to choose, in Germany for example it's 3 headlights, two bottom sides one middle top. When shunting middle top is on both sides. Back side two lower red. Now this is Germany, not sure about Britain, they had variable headcodes in the past depending on the train
