I personally like the coffin shape rather than the casket we use in America. I cried when Elizabeth II passed, like I did when my mum passed. I loved her not as my sovereign but as a mum, granny and great grandmother. Rest In Peace ma’am with your Prince, you deserve the rest.
Thank you. I didn't know most of this. I have followed queen Elizabeth for years and she will be missed worldwide. She was a great person and so dedicated.
Thank you for a very interesting podcast. I remember standing at the grave of King George VI, who was my King from 1946 to 1952. Sadly, we left home in 1961, and as a young lad, I never got the opportunity to visit the King's resting place. In 1998, I visited for the first time 37 years, and paid my respects to my King at that time. Now the grave contains Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, Prince Phillip and her late Great Majesty; Queen Elizabeth II. R.I.P. from your Loyal Subject!
Such a thorough and respectful presentation, Allan. I particularly love the elegance and simplicity of the black stone with gold inlay/engraving. I find it both poignant and fitting that Queen Elizabeth II is buried in the chapel she built for her beloved father. Thank you for another wonderful video.
I'm from The United States, but I greatly appreciate and respect the British Monarchy. Your video was done very well and very respectful, and that means a lot. It's sad that so many of the Royal family have died so young, whether as children or young adults. Thank you for sharing this with us. It answers a lot of questions.
What a blessing it was to grow old with Queen Elizabeth. What it was to see the loving looks that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip gave each other for 70+ years. I see those same loving looks between William and Kate. Be faithful and be kind to each other. I have just realized something and that is that William and Kate are living a normal life with their children. I also saw those same qualities in Diana and her sons.
Thank you for a well-researched and presented video. As a funeral director I have a great interest in this topic and have visited St. Georges and Windsor as well as having spent time with people involved in previous Royal funerals. Unfortunately, there is a lot of other badly researched and incorrect content online since the Queens death. Well done, Allan.
Thanks John that is much appreciated. That is really why I started making these videos as I am fascinated as a historian with archaic burial practices and was surprised by the inaccuracy of a lot of the online content.
@@allanbarton You are welcome. Further to a question below about sealing of the vault and coffin, embalming would be undertaken to sanitise the Queens body prior to the lead lining of the coffin being hermetically sealed thus eliminating any odour. I am from Australia and have carried lead lined coffins many times (albeit when I was younger) and I can assure you and your readers that they are extremely heavy!
Very beautifully done, both your video and the chapel itself - what a fitting place for our beloved monarch to rest. Prince Phillip was such a good patron to mid- to late-twentieth century designers of all sorts, so I can easily imagine how he played a big part in the process of designing this building.
Thank you for this! You’ve answered all my questions brilliantly. I have to admit I was one of those who was quite puzzled about where she was buried and how. 🙏🏻 Godspeed Your Majesty Queen Elizabeth II R Thank You for your life’s work. You did give your life to your country and you were absolutely Amazing and always Beautiful while doing it. We miss you dearly and will Forever remember you! Godspeed ❤️🇬🇧🙏🏻🇬🇧❤️
As an American with ancestry in the countries in the UK …. I have always loved the Royal Family … it was heartbreaking when Prince Phillip passed away and the funeral, seeing the Wonderful Queen sitting alone looking totally lost . Then when Queen Elizabeth started fading in health and those two misfits caused so much pain ……It crushed my heart , I still miss seeing her smile , she became Queen the year I was born
What a wonderful video of our late Queen and her family, and so in depth of the history of the vault. I can say it was my first video that I have watched from you but it will not be my last. So God Bless King George, Queen Elizabeth I, Prince Philip, and Queen Elizabeth I I, and may they all rest in peace together now in that beautiful Chappel.
That explained it well. At first, I thought the four coffins were stacked one on top of the other. I didnt realize that there is a full room beneath the stone marker. Now I do. Thank you!
I love all the little extra details you put in which make your videos very interesting, like the sketches of George Pace and why he was chosen to design the new vault. Thank you for continuing the videos, please do more!
I will do plenty more, it is touching that people enjoy my content and that you have taken the time to be so kind about my work. It is much appreciated.
We visited Windsor just this past May and I remember looking down into the King George memorial chapel area and walking all around the Church. I also remember seeing the effigies of the earlier royal couples lying there in marble. At that time the Queen was in residence at Windsor. Strange to think that she is now resting in the church. Rest in Peace.
Rest in Peace to the 'We Four' and Queen Elizabeth II's beloved Prince Philip. 🙏✝️ Thank you for making this wonderful and historic video. I have shared it on all my Social Media platforms. 🙂
Brilliant, concise and illuminating coverage of Queen Elizabeth II's final resting place. Fascinating. I am now a subscriber and am happy to support your work Allan!
Thank you for your thoughtful and thorough explanation. Having visited St George's, I'd wondered how ledger stones related to vaults below, especially the one in the George VI chapel. Fascinating how beautifully the chapel was designed, contrasted with the (understandable) lack of tribute paid to Henry VIII by *his* heirs.
Robin from USA Very sorry and really sad for the death of queen Elizabeth11. I pray for god to rest in peace forever. Whole nation is missing you majesty. God bless you in heaven. Your reign will be remembered for ever in the heart of all over the world. God blessed you in heaven.
Allan, thankyou so much for this wonderful video. I had watched your previous one as well. I love the care that you put into this. Your voice is very pleasant to listen to. 😊
Thank you for the history of the previous kings--I have done my research too, because I thought it was really strange that some people wrote that the body of Prince Philip was added to the coffin/casket of EIIR! I found out the EIIR hired someone in the 1960's to design and build the grave. She used her own money to have it built. Princess Margaret knew about it, and that there was no room for her, that was why she asked to be cremated because she wanted to be buried with her father and there was no place for an additional coffin/casket. Her funeral was on the same date as her fathers, but of course 50 years later, 15 February 1952 and 15 February 2002. Her mother, the Queen Mother passed away on March 30th, 2002. It was a difficult time for Queen Elizabeth II, because it was also the Golden Jubilee of her reign. And she lost both her sister and her mother. There are 2 'racks' build there, one for King George VI and the Queen Mother, coffins, and another "rack" for Prince Philip and EIIR. So the coffins are stacked but not touching each other and then I think a place for Princess Margaret Rose Ashes. But her name was not inscribed on the black marble that covers the underground room. So the US Four plus Philip are together again.--I did not save all informations that I found, but they are all there online.
Extremely interesting video and presented with such respect and dignity. Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation was the year I was born, until now I have only ever "known" one Monarch. Thank you Queensland Australia.
Thank u for this stunning and talking video your brave and the sad news about our queen elizabeth 96 a good age i still cant believe that shes left us and your talking about this smashing and your holding back tears the sept 8th when the news came i was so upset tears and i wanted to say thank u to our queen well it will hit when xmas comes and new year with queen elizabeth up in scotland grouse and diet irn bru ice its going to take a long time to get over it but one day at a time but this new year of 23 i be very plastered on the grouse and diet irn bru ice scotland our queen thank u rest in peace and allways remembered never forgotton and cant get u out of my mind one thing u dont want me to do is been upset and to carry on with my life and move on step by step thank u queen elizabeth for what u did in your 70 yrs on earth xxxx

This video showed up on my feed and I loved it. The way you spoke about the chapel with such dignity and respect made me subscribe. Thank you for your hard work and I look forward to watching your videos.
Thankyou for this interesting and informative video. The moment when the Crown Jeweller removed the Crown, orb and sceptre from the Queen’s coffin, with the help of the Queen's Bargemaster and Serjeants-at-Arms, was sad and final. Watching the proceedings, it seemed to shock the King in a life-changing moment. But it's comforting that she is lying at rest under a new ledger stone in the King George VI Memorial chapel.
You are so welcome. Yes, I think at that moment the reality of what he was facing was made clear to him. The next time those objects are used he will wear and hold them. All of that in the public glare, it must be hard.
Thank you for all your comments, I am grateful for everyone's response. Please bear with me as I answer all your interesting questions. Some of the questions are giving me ideas for new videos, so watch this space.

I got to admit I like the tomb. It is dignified looking and not overtly fancy.
I found the material fascinating! You're providing not only a glimpse of royal history but also British cultural history.
Good job here.

An excellent commentary. I was under the impression there was an entrance off the main royal vaullt where coffins could be moved to the memorial chapel. Given the weight and size of the triple coffins of both Philip and Elizabeth transfering the coffins via the ledger stone would seem very difficult/impossible .
This is the second upload from you I've viewed, another well constructed, clearly and succinctly presented video presentation. Thank you for your excellent work, most illuminating 😊

Fascinating video thank you I visited the Chapel on a recent visit to the Castle and I was intrigued by the beautiful carved wooden screen up above the alter on the left hand side. I asked one of the Chapel officials about it and he mentioned that it was a chapel to one past King , sorry I forget the details. Do you have any video explaining more about it as being up above it is not accessible to us on a visit?

There is a memorial to her in the chapel, a rough black stone up against the wall.
Brilliant video as usual thanks again
