      This truck was sitting in a junkyard when I filmed this and I do not know the circumstances of how it arrived there. Most of the videos I film are to provide general guidance on electrical systems on a particular vehicle and not to fix any specific part failure.

      I have a 2002, the model prior to this one. However it is very similar. I am blowing my 102 fuse (fuse 111 in my case) for the green/purple power wire as soon as I turn the power on. Where can I look to begin diagnosing.

    After so many trials and error, not even mentioned wasting time and money, I finally found your video. Thanks man, you hint the nail. After watching so many videos trying to find the starter issues on my Ford F150, You was the only person that mentioned the 30amp. fuse could be the cause of my truck troubles shutting.     Thank you. Best video I've seen on this subject. Showing the parts and explaining how to test them is invaluable information. Now I know how to easily bypass the ignition switch, determine whether to test the neutral safety switch, test the starter relay and test from the relay to the starter. Too many videos show a person talking in unclear language which is useless. Looking forward to more videos like this.

    Just replaced the starter on 2006 f150 4 months ago, and today it suddenly won't crank with a good battery. Thanks for heading me in the right direction with this new issue.

    Much thanks! I had constant power coming to the relay from the the ignition fuse and power on the right side prong when I’d turn the switch to start as long as the transmission was in park or neutral. The relay tested good. When I bypassed the relay with a jumper wire, the starter engage would engage and would start the engine. The PCM didn’t seem to be providing a ground to energize the coil in the relay.
    The problem wound up being the neutral safety switch. I replaced it & all was well. Apparently it has to signal to the PCM that the transmission is in park or neutral before the PCM will provide ground to close the circuit.

      Exactly, the starter relay has two inputs to turn it on, vehicle in park, vehicle in neutral!!! I had to adjust my auto trans shifter linkage… started right up!

      Plot twist. The safety neutral switch fixed it short term. Turns out the wiring harness had gotten between the rear of the engine & the firewall. Apparently it had an intermittent short in the wire that ran from the safety switch to the pcm at the time, and my pulling on the wires to the safety switch plug resolved it for maybe a week, but it eventually burned completely through that wire & part way through three more. It was a headache to splice the wires back together & get the harness in a better position, but it completely resolved the issue.

    Found IT!! Your video was very helpful in tracing down my problem. Got as far as confirming that I had full voltage at the relay and the starter worked fine and all the circuits responded just like the should.. The puzzle was that the control pins on the relay only showed 10.3 volts. So it seems to be a limited ground from the PCM and so the relay wouldn't actually click. The I came across a thread that mentioned the PATS system and the red light on the dash. The red light was giving an error code so I got my spare key and it started right up. That's all it was after 3 evenings of sleuthing!! Apparently chip keys can go bad. I wonder if its very rare?

    Thanks for pointing out all the starter system test points, had the starter relay act up on my gf's truck a few months back, a quick swap of it and the blower motor relay go the truck to start, I totally forgot to order a replacement and of course it left her stranded again, swapping relays didn't get it started so I'm gonna have to troubleshoot the starter system. Thanks for the video though, will make getting to all the connections quick so I can check voltage and continuity quickly. (Update it ended up being the dumbest thing, she hadn't put the truck fully in park so it thought it was in gear, it always ends up being the simple things. I did replace the relay anyway though and spent a good hour probing and checking all the voltages with the key in the various positions, so to anyone else, check that the truck is fully in park, it was just out enough to not allow the contact to be sensed causing the issue.)

    Hell of a video helped me solve this issue to the people checking this out and not finding the problem try giving the starter relay a direct ground my issue was the pcm was not providing it and causing the pink relays to pop on ever start so I ran back through step by step checking all power and last but not least was this ground and it fixed the issue hope this helps u guys and big thanks for this video 🙏🏼

    I'm having the same issue exactly the same issue but my won't start I just got the PCM relay and it didn't start so I'm gonna check those 2 pieces you're talking about see if they're popped and then change the starter one switch it with another 1 to see if that works hopefully at work thanks for the information

    So I have power going to the red and blue wire at the steering column. Now I do not have any power at pin 86 on the relay. I changed out the safety neutral switch to see if that was the problem and still nothing.

    Any recommendations on which fuse to tap into for a key-on power source for a dash cam? I’ve gone over and over with a continuity tester and it seems to me like F01 is the only fuse bank that fully disconnects, but the manual indicates it’s used by the instrument cluster so I’m a bit hesitant to mess with it.

    So I have a 2007 F-150 King ranch exactly like this one and I replaced the pcm and programmed the key and pats system but it wouldn't start still so I put a wire from the slot for the ignition switch power that only comes on when you try to start the truck to the slot for the starter and I works like it should when I turn the key, I just want to know if this is safe or will something break over time without the relay.

    So I did this on my truck followed all the steps and have constant power, power when the key is turned on and the starter is working. But when I try to jump the start of the truck will still not start. The truck was running just fine an hour ago. I’m going to the store to get a neutral safety switch now but that still does not explain why the truck will not start but it will try to start on starting fluid and the fuel safety shut off has not been tampered with

    Thanks for the video, my 2005 F150 was running really rough, so my friend suggested that it could be the mass airflow sensor. So I bought a new one and I was careful not to touch the metal part and I then installed it with the metal side facing up and I then torqued the screws down tight and I also replaced the air filter. So now it cranks over but it won’t start? Go figure you know. The only thing that I can think of is the mass airflow sensor that I bought is bad? Any advice you can hopefully give me? Thanks

      Update: I took the old Mass Flow air sensor and sprayed a little bit of carburetor cleaner ( that’s all that I had here at my house) and I then wiped it clean and used my air nozzle to blow it out and dry it and then I put it back in the truck and guess what it started right up. And the check engine light is off and it is running smooth. Believe it or not. Needless to say I’m going to return the new mass air flow sensor and get my money back. Anyway thanks again

    I have a 2007 F150 4x4 5.4 triton. when I turn the key to start it, it cranks the motor starts but the starter won't quit cranking when I release the key. the starter will stop if I turn the key off.

    Im currently having a similar issue. My 04 f150 is completely dead when i turn the key. I cant jump it, ive changed the battery, Ive changed the starter and still nothing. I have no dome lights, my gauges dont come on when the key is on, ive tried starting it in park and neutral, theres no power going to the computer port under the dash. Fuel pump and starter come on when you turn the key but thats it. Any ideas?

    Hey ... My New Friend ..!! Thank U so Much for that video .! I was looking for some serious information.! Not just how to change the Park/Newtral Switch .!
    My Ford is a 2003 F250 5.4L Triton . with a No start condition . I have checked the starter circuit up to the fuse and it is okay. I get power there and the fuse is all good. But No start.
    So, Would the color of the wires would be the same in my 2003; F250 ...?? Or should I look for the 12v on the "fatest" wire and see which wire gets hot with the ignition on and then go down to the Newtral switch in the transmission to confirm that my 12v do get there ...???
    And then go find the relay ...???

    My truck won’t start and I’ve changed everything except that neutral safety switch. When I turn the key I’m not seeing any power coming through that pin but I can jump those pins and the starter engages and turns the engine over.

    I have an 04 F150 5.4, I get constant power like the key is in the ignition, without out the key in. I've swapped the ignition switch, installed a rebuilt fuse box, and swapped in a new ignition lock cylinder. Non fixed the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

    Mines not working i switched the relays around and bought a new 102 and 101 fuses when I turn the key on it makes a clicking noise but no power to start the truck

    Awesome video LeHew Tech! Maybe you have an idea on my situation. My 05 f150 has an intermittent no-crank situation. Winter time the truck starts right up, during hot temperatures (and high humidity) is when I get the no crank situation. I have a wire I keep in the truck to jump the relay which works 100% of the time. I replaced the starter to try and fix this issue. Any ideas?

    have a quick question.
    if one was to take a external power like, "20v drill battery", to top pin on relay, would it power up starter and Solenoid?
    looking at a auction f150 claim mouse wire issue no crank no start. the problem is 5.4 3v is a mechanical problematic engine. like to hear it fire or at least tern over before purchasing .

    Fuse 33 keeps blowing for me. When I unplug the neutral safety switch it stops blowing but obviously the truck does not crank what does that mean?….

    I have a question. SO on pin 86 it should have no power to it until I put the key in the on position correct? So let's just say my battery is 13.5v. And I get my DVM I would put it on 20 D.C correct? Ok once I do that I would put my positive lead onto number 86 and the negative lead on the opposite side and should have 0 volts correct? Now if I turn the key I should read somewhere in the 13.5 range would this be correct? if so how long should I see that 13.5V on the DVM? I have a 06 f150 and I am having a no crank. battery is good the starter is good because I jumped the solenoids and the motor turns when I cross the 2 post on the solenoid, I had it tested and seen the plunger come out at Autozone and I jumped it from that relay in the fuse box I used the top and bottom pin. SO I know the starter is good. I am trying to diagnosis if it's a bad neutral safety switch, ignition switch or bad PCM. No issues with security light

    Hi Lehew: my f 150 2007 cranks by itself every time I turn the key off. that happened after I connected the battery cables the wrong way for a few seconds. What could the problem be? also, I have a new battery in the truck but loses charge during the night. Thank you.

    Good video… maybe you can help me out, my 2004 F-150 has a starting issue, I’ve changed the ignition switch and starter when you turn the key to the run Position the truck starts and the starter disengages if you turn the key to the start position the truck will start but will grind the Bendix for a split second, when you turn the key to to the off position it will send power to the starter and ding the flywheel for split second…. Any advice would be appreciated and thank you in advance for your time.

    Got an 08 f150 went to start the other day and nothing. Cleaned all the connections to starter they were a bit rusty went to reconnect battery and with the key not even in ignition you can hear the starter sounds like a electric fan and won't stop unless I disconnect battery again what could be the issue? Can't figure it out

      Sounds like the starter is not engaging the flywheel so either the flywheel is stripped (not likely) or the gear on the starter is not shooting out

    Great video ...I have a 2007 F150 XL 4.6 with a no crank no start condition ..I did find green fur and a totally shitty wire connector on the starter and replaced it but sadly it didn't take care of my issue..I drove this truck off the trailer and parked it so I have no idea what's wrong since doing the front engine cover replacement ...?

      Did you find a solution? My 07’ is doing similar. No start when it feels like it. I did replace the fuel pump driver module by the fuel tank. It had a huge rust hole in it. But didn’t fix my problem. 2 new starters, I’ve replaced every relay I’ve found. Still no start random. So truck just sits in my yard till I can figure it out.

      @@aaroninks ran a wire from the starter solenoid to the battery , if all else failed i would touch the wire to the power side activate the starter with the key on and i was on my way . never stranded

It still will not start by key not even crAnk but I bridge it out from the starter it will crank but not start?? Idk what to do is it in theft mode cause All my gauges work an window?

      Are there any trouble codes? Normally in theft mode there will be a flashing key icon after a crank attempt. Have you left the key in the on position when bridging the starter?

    Hi. I have an 05 with 5.4l once every couple weeks the truck will not start just whiney noise. Then after about the third try it will finally turn over. I have replaced the starter with Motorcraft oem, still have same problem. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    how do you know if you need a new relay or fuse? my truck goes dead in 1-3 days of being in park :( brand new batter now too!

    My 2008 F150 turns on after a few times. I have power but just won't start the engine. I have to keep trying like 10 times to turn on.

    QUESTION. I have a 06 F150. No Start. 5 days later. just checked out the Video and i" DON'T" have power at the relay for, " the safety neutral switch / ignition switch ", does your video apply for a 2006 F-150 also?

    Neutral safety switch…a faulty alignment of the shifter cable at trany… after 36 hrs of haunting electrical problems:-(

    This all checks out... Still no start,no crank. It cranks if I put power directly to the starter..

      I just fixed mine. It wound up being the neutral safety switch.

    Hey, there is a short braided cable on my 04 150 that mounts on the body mount of the frame and came disconnected from it’s other point. It’s short. Do you know where it is supposed to be connected on the other end? Thanks.

    I have 2008 ford expedition, it starts most of the time but there are sometimes when I turn the key, I just hear a loud winding sound. No crank just a winding sound. I changed out the starter relay and the start run relay and it worked for about a week straight with no issues but its happened again like 3 times since then. Do you have any idea what it could possibly be? Thank you

      That often happens when the Starter is failing.. the starter gear will turn but not go out far enough to engage the flywheel.

    I need help please. So my 2006 f150, when I turn the key over I'm getting voltage through the blue red wire but I'm not getting any voltage sent to the starter. No crank no start. When I turn over I hear a click in the fuse box, that's it. If someone can help. Thank you.

    Sooo your saying that in the case you are stuck but the key works everything then run a powered wire to pin 87 to get it to start. I watched 8 vids and they were all very simple fixes, none of which helped me. I think the key chip is dying. My 3rd time i am stranded and it started eventually with hours of fking around. The previous owner had this same problem because the battery and lead wires and starter is new, the column has been apart the relays are different brands. My 05 has been dependable for the 10yrs i had it, type in 07 and you see electrical problems. Damn Ford has to change shit

      When i jumped 87, nothing happened telling me it was not the cab but wires or bad starter, cut the wheel right and the back of the starter is easily accessible, shorted the terminals and it cranked, key wasn’t on so it didn’t start but the key started it. Solenoid/starter going bad or bad connections. They were a little corroded.

    I have a 2009 f150 5.4 and it's driving me crazy so I hope someone can help me please!!! LOL!! first of all my truck runs and drives great but I will be driving along and look down to see the blue wrench icon. Now my truck never goes into limp mode and as long as I keep driving it's fine but if I shut it off then when I try to restart I have full power but no crank no start?? If I wait 30 min it will fire back up, the wrench goes away and all is good until next time it does it and that could be one day or 4 weeks. neutral safety switch? Ignition switch? starter relay?? HELP!!
