    We use Permahyde 480 at my job and still frustrated over the slow flashing and blowing on the base.ive used mostly solvents through my career .Clean your base gun with demineralized water then the rest with thinner because thinner seems to make the waterborne base in the gun coagulate and make it chunky .its a pain to clean out of the gun 😒

    Oi Gunny,
    do you ad Booster to your metallics?
    The thing is, when it came out (February March 2019) you could add it to Solids and Metallics, even 3 Stage..
    But then they had to change some ingredient (around June / July) and since then they "don't recomment" it in Metallics, since it 'might' change the colour ever so slightly..
    I do use it on every single job (the only exception is when I am forced to use colourblend, since i still havn't tested how the Booster reacts with the blender. But spraying boosted base into the unboosted blender, you get a weird transition right on the line from the wetbed. So I leave it for now, but then again, I might have to use Colourblend every 3 Month, but apart from that) i never had any problem with a Color getting way of, in fact i havn't noticed any difference so far..
    I just Sprectro everything and then spray the best (corrected) formula, from time to time i do match one.
    The Booster was actually 'invented' for climates like your.
    BUT in metallics its just 5%, NOT 10% like in Solids.
    Since Standowin don't ask you anymore, i just add it before I start to Mix. Mixing 400ml, i drop 20gramm of booster in my Cup and then start the Mixing process.. It's actually supposed to get in before Hardener ( or Visco Addi if you don't use Hardener), but it feel just the same. Just stir really well before adding Hardener / Visco.
    The Base goes down even flatter, smoother and the best thing, it not sticky-ish anymore, you can tack rag it all day long, super smooth and almost slippery (the main reason why i still use it, despite it might change some colours)
    Just Send it mate :-)
    Cheers

    Is final polishing of the clearcoat any different from 2K? What cutting compounds are used? How long would you need to leave the job to cure before polishing if you don't have a booth and leave the job to air dry? On another matter, I need to coat mirror polished aluminium motorcycle rims. I don't want to polish the rims constantly. It is not practical to clear anodize the rims. Do you know of any spray on clear coat made for this purpose that can seal the surface to stop it oxidizing? Have you ever seen wipe on ceramic coating such as Armour Shield IX successfully used for this purpose?

    Hey Gunny, love your work so much that you have inspired me to make some tutorials and reviews of my own in my line of work (directional drilling) but yea I was just wondering what editing software you use

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use Sony Movie studio 13 but it's actually getting a bit dated. They're so many on the market, if I was you, I'd look for a free one just to get started. That's what I did. I'm currently looking at getting HitFilm. Video editing software is usually pretty resource hungry on your PC so the faster the better.

    Heres a question...You mentioned that you should use primer closer to the basecoat colour. If you have light grey primer, is it possible to put a few drops of basecoat in the primer to match the colour you're painting??

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do it but obviously couldn't put water colour in the 2k solvent primer, find it needs a lot to change the colour and also alters the way it dries so it can be hard to sand. So yeah, I don't recommend it.

    Great skills, as usual (these don't go away). Are you using hardener for the basecoat (Standoblue Hardener #4024669504002) ? With application in thin layers, it allows very fast clears to go on top.

    We are going to be switching to this brand on the 10th...is it true that hvlp can't bust this base coat up well do to it being thick? I'm using a LS400 1.3 and not feeling like buying a new gun right now. The rep wants me to get an RP gun instead.

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm also told the ls isn't great for this system but to be honest I'm yes to find a gun that can't spray it well, it's more you knowing how to apply it than the gun. I will get my ls out and see how it goes

      @@TheGunmanChannel this is great news I'll check it out.
      I found it odd for the paint rep to say that when chromax had some special limited edition ls400's made up for them.
      They want me to spend 1200 on a sata and I'm no longer a sata man...love my supernova guns after watching your vids and one other guys. Probably just want a gun sale.
      They did do a demo and some base was left over so I tried it out. I did find in the blend it looked a bit chunky but this was on paper with no blender to help it out. Plus I'm sure I can adjust myself and gun to make it work better.
      Anyway thanks again Gunman appreciate your all vids and advice you give. I've been at this 14 plus years now but always looking to be better.....i like RM but the technology is just so far behind with them. It will be like going from the 90's to current overnight lol.

      @superduty8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGunmanChannel the ls400 did a great job if you ask me plus your talent probably helped a lot...just checked your Instagram now.
      I used to spray the same paint back when it was dupont water borne with a sata 4000b hvlp..(back then no one said an hvlp wasn't ideal for this basecoat so why I was kinda shocked when the rep said to get an RP) it was a challenge with that gun. The base coat was thick back then like it is now. My 3000 rp's were wicked but I sold them to get the 4000's one hvlp and one RP and they were both terrible guns in my opinion.
