Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.
Hearing a lot of support for the Iron Will Broadheads. I know I lot of folks are making requests but it would be interesting to hear/ see if a broadhead that is 2-3x the cost of most others is really worth it.
The best tests I've seen go through hide, bone, then into ballistic gelatin. So you can see the wood channel and penetration depth. Some expandable are made to get through bone and then open but hard to tell if it is not set up as close to real life as possible. Hope to see more tests. It was still fun to see these results. Thanks for all your videos.
As always, great content. If you guys do another round of testing, it’d be cool to see how it would do with a shoulder blade sandwiched between two briskets. I bet you would really start to see which heads will penetrate and which won’t.
snorting the fairy dust, it would be interesting to front load the arrow - increasing FOC and using an arrow setup of 650 grains or higher which theoretically should penetrate and lessen deflection using a single bevel broadhead
@@richardfinney3169 how does that work? Deflection would be decreased following an increase in inertia which would directly increase with mass. Higher speeds would also see higher forces on the arrow shaft, also equating to higher deflection, no?
An engineer for Magnus broadhead did a great break down of single vs double beveled broadhead s. Conclusion was single broadhead s had better penetration and single bevel did crack the bone more, energy is lost while its breaking the bone. Either way 2 blade cut on contact are superior for penetrating bone. Double beveled broadhead s have a slight advantage according to there data. Thanks for the video it was fun to watch
so i took a button buck with a tooth of the arrow around 520 or so grain arrow setup. shot quartering to through the top of the front shoulder and the blade of course survived but no exit wound. broke the ribs on exit but just didnt punch through. top of one lung bottom of other and liver ran 80 yards and i watched him go down. if i was in thick cover i would have had a tuff time tracking. love the way they fly but i always seem to get quartering to shots. i like blood trails for early season, now its november so not so bad. but needless to say im searching for a new broudhead. might give the single bevels a try.
Everybody bitching about not their Broadhead or no extra meat or not this or not that... do your own and publish it. I’m grateful they are trying so many different options. It is hard to please everyone. Keep up the effort guys! Aim small and kill fast!
Hey guys, love the videos! I can’t find the link for day6 arrows and a google search brings up everything but archery equipment. I’d love to check them out.
So many people complaining about everything in the comments, it's just a test, it was entertaining and in a way also informative. Stop complaining about how it's not accurate enough, just do it yourself then.
Would be cool to see same test with some of the more sturdy mechanicals. I wonder if a smaller cutting diameter grim reaper would go through it? I've broken whitetail bones with them several times.
Awesome content super excited to watch this years elk hunts! Could you guys maybe do a video of how you guys layer and how you wear your merino from warm to cold conditions?
What Broadhead was it that you used as the replacement the solid one. is that the same type of Broadhead that Cody use to kill that 360 Bull in Colorado?
Steel drumb is the best broadhead test you can do is far as im concerned..If it can hold up to that it can hold up to an elk shoulderblade..Besides you are not shooting through the thick muscle or hide as you would if you were shooting a real elk in the shoulder blade...Woulda been less stinky too😁😆
Hey Trent I seen your son on the Jerry's rogue jets was pretty cool to see him enjoy the community here. I was disappointed that day because I have my archery elk tag here in Oregon and just knowing you and your family support our community and our public lands
Would love to see you guys put some of the $5-$10 broadheads you can pick up at Walmart to the test to see how they compare to higher quality broadheads
I shoot the deep six fmj and there are very limited Brodheads for them what would you guys recommend. I have most of what you just tested. I thought tooth were going to be good.
Interestingly G5 knew about the Striker ferrules breaking and sold them anyway. I had a lot of contact with G5 after the 2020 season about the failure of their Striker broadheads.
Its really weird. I have heard the strikers have that issue but I shoot montec g5s and m3s and they are solid. Just watched a video of a guy shooting through both shoulders of a bull at 35yds. Broadhead was sticking out the backside shoulder about an inch.
@@jefferylorsung8846 I shot Montecs for a long time without issues. I liked them but had to sharpen them often. I am currently shooting Iron Will and Valkyrie broadheads. They both are super sharp and super tough.
@@royhoglund1322 Nice! My brother in law swears by the Valkrie. I might try something new next year but I am pretty dialed right now. I shoot the Easton axis 4mm with exerts so the added FOC with that heavier head might be better. Being in Oregon 99 percent of my shots will be inside 40 anyway so the extra drop shouldn't make that much difference. Agree on the sharpening for montecs.
Love to see the Dirt Nap DRT - Just used them this year, and was amazed at the results. I am totally sold on single bevel broadheads! What the hell happened to Shuttle T. That broadhead has went to hell over the years!
Here is my question. Cool video BTW. But why would u shoot the same arrow w multiple broadheads after the fletchings we’re completely obliterated? How is that arrow supposed to fly straight and result in an accurate test without fletchings?
So I'm thinking it's not going to be anywhere close to the same on a elk we need to be back at 30 + yards and find away to add hide and muscle I'm not sure if it would get threw the blade. thanks for the video interesting for sure.
Would be interesting to see how the cheaper broadheads to as well....seems like my whole life is on a budget and I am not sure I will ever purchase any of those heads...just saying. Good luck guys...heading out tomorrow for Oregon OTC opener on Sat!!
I don't feel like this is an accurate test. You did a few broadheads multiple times. Especially the bone. I did my own test on a G5 striker 100grain with a gold tip Hunter pro arrow 400 spine and it blew right through a beef shoulder. Not saying anything bad but think it's not a real accurate test. Love you guys! Love the inspiration you give to all of us!! and the content! Make another video of a test doing different shots as you did the bone! Good luck this weekend!!!
Curious where you hit the shoulder blade with the G5? I hit a bull with G5 in the front shoulder, quartering to and clean out of the hind quarter with a full pass through, no problems... Did you shoot the screw in the 2x4?
Please save an elk shoulder bone this year for real test I think it has twice none density of beef. And try a RAGE. I hated all expendables until last year when I got shot a bull when we filed dressed it huge wound cavity and literally gallons of blood in its belly. I think they at least have earned the right to be tested. We all might be surprised. Keep it guys love the show!!!
Wanna see tests done with muscle and skin still on bone as fresh as possible. Bone gets brittle pretty quickly. Also after 1 shot on shoulder bone it causes micro fractures which causes bone to lose integrity. 2nd, 3rd, 4th shot on bone aren't conclusive.
Arrow with tore up vanes that might have undetected cracks in the shaft or nock shooting broadheads with unknown flight characteristics at hard targets with your buddy downrange and 6 feet away from the target looking through a viewfinder for some reason.....what could possibly go wrong given we are dealing with an expert shot here?!?
I would guess an elk shoulder would be more dense due to the amount of movement, climbing and foraging (potentially fighting). Unless that beef blade came from range cattle.
Bone single babbled is aggressive and when it fly it spin like a bullet because of its shape and design short and wide broadhead so i think its better then other..
Would you guys do a video comparing penetration at long distance vs up close. All the broadheads were lethal in the penetration test at 15 yards but what happens at 60 yards when the arrow has slowed? Thanks!!
I get what you are saying but in my mind I was envisioning a test where the same arrow and broadhead were shot out of the same bow at increasing distance intervals. The results would give a real world look at how much penetration is lost on longer distance shots due to the slowing of the arrow. I would imagine that certain broadheads might slow faster due to increased drag and therefore get even less penetration than the heads with less drag. @@tasaman
I think you’d have to find a way to clock the speed of the arrow before and after going through all of the hide, muscle, fascia to know how much that slows down the arrow before hitting the shoulder blade to know which ones, if any would go through
Do feel this is a good test we’re you don’t have elk hide and muscles? Just the bone And nothing put in its place Maybe ten layers of cardboard or something in front of the shoulder blade to make it more realistic?

The slower the speed the greater deflection.

are going to deflect, the shoulder isn’t square, without anything directly behind it to keep it on original path.
