I used high temp silicone at the tip of the end of the wrap to keep it from becoming undone.
How has it held up with the silicone. Did it give it a clean look?
@@Ski.the.slayer the silicone became crispy, but the weave has not come undone.
always start from the bottom going up. that way the seam is beneath to the next seam going up. that keeps the water out.
All I can say is I wish I used gloves

For clarity purposes you should of said sewn edge exposed. That way regaurdless of direction or facing it would be clear what to do
is this doable when the manifold is mounted? my studs are very rusted and dont really want to undo it
Depends on the header, probably doable, if you're patient....
Why has no one mentioned the smoking? Is that normal? Also can you use this in place of a heat shield?
They smoke for the first few heat cycles. Yeah, I think you can use them instead of a heat shield.
Well, turns out I did my one pipe completely wrong, looks like I'll be redoing it tomorrow and hopefully it goes a lot better. I started at the flange and not the collector, not sure what side of the wrap is where, didnt fold it over at all before my start, I pulled the entire roll through every time so I didnt measure it out, I'm pretty sure I overlapped way too much and needless to say, I'm gonna probably need more ties

Assuming that you have a stock header, that is a heatshield. It does the same thing as a wrap. Do not remove it lol
@@skyty0 I'm assuming the entire manifold is plastic. I have a 2012 Fiesta so I don't know if the intake manifold is completely plastic or it's a heat shield like you said.
silly question: What would be the weight gain for such a wrap?
Minimal. DEI "Titanium" is very light. Exact numbers I don't have but it's lighter than normal fiberglass wraps.
@@DriveTuneMedia I’m worried that I might damage my headers I used a lot of overlap like 1” because I used the 2 inch wrap on mine I might of over did it. Should I remove the headers and rewrap them?
This should keep the heat down in the engine bay?
It will help, but if your engine is overheating on normal riding and normal weather, there are problems that wont be solved with exhaust wrap.
It could help a bit when you have hot weather and are driving in traffic all the time
So you don’t need to wet it first?
Genuine DEI Titanium is very flexible without water.

will the wrap lead to rusting of pipe?
Hi., If its mild steel, yes. Stainless does not rust. Should not be used on Titianium exhausts because they tend to have very thin walls.
how about if the pipes are painted with high temp paint first before wrapping them? would that cause or help any rusting issues? thanks

Yes, because it retains water and the dirt and grime from the road. Look at the pipe he is wrapping. Ir was wrapped at least once before... looks like the wrap stained the exhaust... you should change the wraps every 6 months or so.
Why wrap up to the head when you can wrap down to the tip and ti will look cleaner 🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿

Ha, I had a practice run of one of my Beetle J pipes last night. Until I read this I was wondering last night why my hands were itchy. I thought that only happened with fibreglass.
And now...simply wait 6 months and replace entire exhaust side of the engine!
Why?
MaRkiLLeR666 in my experience, heat insulating wraps do more damage than good in the long run if you live in high humidity areas, cause early rusting and corrosion, weakens the metal. I get it though, hotter gas flows better, less heat dispersion in the engine bay, seems ideal but for most geographic locations in the Southern Hemisphere it’s more than un ideal, hope that clears up my reply :)

And now you can proudly watch as your headers are trashed by heat and accelerated rust.
Headers are cheap,compared to damage headers do. We couldn’t keep a starter from burning up,with heat wrap. Headers just get too hot ,under a hood.
@@deathtoliberals7843 don't wrap the headers, insulate the starter.
Just get better headers that can take it like stainless and use high temp header primer 3 years on beating on it and still whole.
