Angus has always said that Mal was a better guitarist and soloist than he was. I don't know if that's true and Angus is being humble, but Mal was definitely rock solid as a rhythm guitarist.

Incredible how humble he is. The founder of one of the biggest rock bands in the world with dozens of iconic guitar riffs but you’d never know it just listening to him. He comes across like a working class chap who plays guitar in his spare time and is almost apologetic about it.
Despite all the years of fame and fortune he clearly remembers where he came from and has stayed true to his roots. Just makes me that much prouder to call myself a fan.

All you need is a guitar, a cord, and a cranked Plexi style amp for their brand of Rn'R...the only exception is if you get the wireless gear like Angus uses, but still, they kept it all very basic for good reason. AC/DC is the best example of what Marshall tone is all about IMO. Even EVH played on a cranked plexi with NO distortion pedals in his early days, and I believe his amp was pretty much un-modded also.
I nearly cried watching this, thinking about Malcolm and how good a person Angus is. There will never be a band like them ever again. Those that grew up with them as the sound track to their youth and beyond are truly blessed. Thank you so much AC/DC.
IAMROY 59 - I think it might be a thing with truly great musicians because apparently when someone asked Hendrix what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world he said "I don't know - ask Rory Gallagher". But then again - Clapton, Santana and Zappa aren't exactly known for their lack of ego - so I guess that's where my hypothesis falls to the ground - lol!! Not to mention Jacko Pastorious who introduced himself to Joe Zawinul as "the best bass player in the world".
Agreed, some of the amazing sounds Angus gets out of his Gibson SG, are incredible considering he doesn’t distortion pedals. If you listen to songs like Jailbreak or Kicked In the teeth, some of those sounds Angus got just proves what a musical genius he is on guitar.

I am 56 so I know what you mean. Forever fan. Angus is such a decent human being. Not full of himself so it's easy to be a fan of his and the band. In general they are all great guys too.
AC/DC is just rock ’n’ roll at its best. When they were playing in my home town, and I didn’t notice that. I was so angry with myself. Yeah! AC/DC rock on! And rip Malcolm.
I have been listening to AC/DC and going to their concerts for 40 years. Never before have i heard Angus speak. He does seem super cool. Nice to read some of the comments. Makes me feel good:)
Angus is so down to earth and humble and that makes me like him even more! I love his playing and I know this will sound daft considering his massive success but I think he deserves so much more appreciation. He’s superb.
Angus is one of a kind, this little guy who could melt yer face off with a Guitar solo, 64 years old now and still rockin' all over the World!! Legend!
It's nice to see people like Angus who've been successful in a tough business talk in a relaxed manner without having to come across as self promoters. His strong points are easily enough to overcome whatever weaker points he might have, and I'm thinking that all musicians have strong and weak points.
From his stage antics, I would never have expected him to be such a likeable, humble guy.

That's like the bass guitar player, Flea. He looks like Tarzan on stage with his bass. But sitting down, listening to him give playing tips, he's the equivalent of a kitten, literally.
You could listen to Angus play forever, he’s a musical genius, and that classic rock tone is magical. Angus Young has immortalised the Gibson SG, and in spite of all his well deserved success, he comes across as very down to Earth and humble, absolutely no arrogance at all.

as a guitarist, id say that he and eric clapton are actually blues guitarists in rock bands. angus being my favorite blues guitarist, you can really hear the willie dixon and chuck berry influence

As a little kid, I remember thinking SG's were HUGE guitars whenever I saw Angus playing....later I realized the guitar wasn't big, he was just "a little fella"....but, he sounds 10ft tall when he plays :-)

I was exactly the same. Got my first SG when I was 16. But at age 16, I was six foot one, 180 lb and all in love with myself. So I strapped it on and went to look at myself in the mirror with it and was disappointed at this tiny guitar I was wearing. I couldn't figure it out! It looks so big on Angus! But I had just traded 3 amplifiers and a Charvel guitar for this brand new 61 reissue Les Paul SG. Oh and I had to pay five hundred bucks on top of it. I really loved that guitar. Had it till I was 18 at which time I sold it for $200 so I could buy coke. Let that be a lesson to the kids, two lessons actually. First lesson is that Angus is a little guy! Second, drugs suck!

Check out Sister Rosetta Tharpe Playing her SG on "Didn't it rain" She first recorded it in 1948. It's a bit of pre rocknroll history (she has been called the mother of rocknroll by some )
This dude gave me so much inspiration to pick it up and start playing. I have no idea how many times I stood in my bedroom as a kid and played along to the Back In Black album. A true legend.

I actually met his brother malcom once and didn't even know it at the time. It was november 1983 after an ac/dc concert in roanoke va. After the concert, my friend and i were hanging around the parking lot waiting for all the traffic to clear out so we could get to our car and get out of there. Around midnight two guys came walking out of where the tractor trailer rigs were parked and one of them came up and said "Hey friend, you got an extra smoke to spare?" I said "yeah man" and flipped a couple of cigarettes out of the pack and handed it to them. They fired them up, took a couple of drags and said thank's man, then walked away. My friend said "do you know who that guy with the foreign accent was? That is Malcom young, Angus Young's older brother. I said, why didn't you say something while he was standing right there next to us? He said, i don't know man i guess i was too nervous to say anything. Well, that was the night i met the founder of A/C D/C and missed the chance to talk to a rock -n- roll legend!

I know this doesnt compare but I met the band Survivor (eye of the tiger) and they asked me to go on the road with them, and I actually thought about it! LOL that was when I was young and pretty. But I didnt go with them, and got to work on Monday and really questioned that decision lol

That is what I call a role model: for me one of the 10 best guitar players (I do not think there is THE best, there is just a "top league") ever in history of rock music and such a humble and modest personality!
Without a doubt one of the greatest live guitarists/performers to ever pick up a six string. When you watch him live, it's like he's in a state of ecstasy. He never looks at his instrument, he is completely in the zone, he is one with his guitar. An incredible musician. His brother was his equal. They were born to do this.
I first saw ACDC at the Commodore Motel in Albury NSW Australia December 27, 1975. The energy coming out of Bon and Angus, they just worked the crowd. It was hot and crowded, Angus bared his ass. He was just a kid, amazing to think now.
I met him twice in the same weekend, London 1988. An absolute gentleman. Me and my friends weighed in to appear in the crowd scene for the then new single That's The Way I Wanna Rock n Roll. The "live" part of the video was filmed in Wembley Arena where the band did a 3 night run. My brother and a close friend who also were in the video have since passed away. Neither of them lived to see their 26th birthday. I miss those guys. I miss those days. Keep going as long as you can, Angus. Keep flying that flag for Rock n Roll.
I only just became a fan of ACDC. I had listened to their music but had never seen them perform. Oh how I regret that. They are superb. Amazing. Angus is so incredible on stage. I went to see an ACDC tribute band recently and couldn't believe the performance . So I googled ACDC concerts and it blew me away. I think Angus should rank up there as one of the top guitarist and performers on stage in the world. He gives 110% to each performance. Plus he is such a nice guy in person. He seems very humble even though he is so famous. What a great guy as are the others in the band.

The reason? He has stated that he tried an effects pedal and the batteries died during a gig. Never touched one again.

Another guitar great , Michael Bloomfield, called it "bare knuckles playing." He never used pedals, and got some amazing sounds.

IAMROY 59 - I think it might be a thing with truly great musicians because apparently when someone asked Hendrix what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world he said "I don't know - ask Rory Gallagher". But then again - Clapton, Santana and Zappa aren't exactly known for their lack of ego - so I guess that's where my hypothesis falls to the ground - lol!!
Not to mention Jacko Pastorious who introduced himself to Joe Zawinul as "the best bass player in the world".

Agreed, some of the amazing sounds Angus gets out of his Gibson SG, are incredible considering he doesn’t distortion pedals.
If you listen to songs like Jailbreak or Kicked In the teeth, some of those sounds Angus got just proves what a musical genius he is on guitar.
Humble man, hard not to like and respect him.

I am 56 so I know what you mean. Forever fan. Angus is such a decent human being. Not full of himself so it's easy to be a fan of his and the band. In general they are all great guys too.
Their Back in Black tour (1980) was my first concert experience when I was 11yrs old. It blew my socks off! :-O What a great experience. :-)

Seen these guys in concert 8 times and Angus always seems to surpass himself. Best ever for my $$$.
First time I got to see what Angus looks like, he's all blurry at the concerts because his heads always moving

I have been listening to AC/DC and going to their concerts for 40 years. Never before have i heard Angus speak. He does seem super cool. Nice to read some of the comments. Makes me feel good:)
Angus is so down to earth and humble and that makes me like him even more! I love his playing and I know this will sound daft considering his massive success but I think he deserves so much more appreciation. He’s superb.

It's nice to see people like Angus who've been successful in a tough business talk in a relaxed manner without having to come across as self promoters. His strong points are easily enough to overcome whatever weaker points he might have, and I'm thinking that all musicians have strong and weak points.
Honesty from his words and his playing. Just pure honesty. Plays what he feels. The fans, we all feel it and we all get it.

From his stage antics, I would never have expected him to be such a likeable, humble guy.
That's like the bass guitar player, Flea. He looks like Tarzan on stage with his bass. But sitting down, listening to him give playing tips, he's the equivalent of a kitten, literally.

Angus is such a nice feller, he's never had a bad thing to say about anyone. When he's with Brian in an interview situation you know that it's going to be a giggle, they aren't full of themselves they shine with gratitude for where their lives have taken them.

Angus Young is actually a very underrated and competent blues player. Better than a lot of people give him credit for being.
He isn't under rated, every guitar player on earth knows his music and stage style.

as a guitarist, id say that he and eric clapton are actually blues guitarists in rock bands. angus being my favorite blues guitarist, you can really hear the willie dixon and chuck berry influence

As a little kid, I remember thinking SG's were HUGE guitars whenever I saw Angus playing....later I realized the guitar wasn't big, he was just "a little fella"....but, he sounds 10ft tall when he plays :-)

I was exactly the same. Got my first SG when I was 16. But at age 16, I was six foot one, 180 lb and all in love with myself. So I strapped it on and went to look at myself in the mirror with it and was disappointed at this tiny guitar I was wearing. I couldn't figure it out! It looks so big on Angus! But I had just traded 3 amplifiers and a Charvel guitar for this brand new 61 reissue Les Paul SG. Oh and I had to pay five hundred bucks on top of it. I really loved that guitar. Had it till I was 18 at which time I sold it for $200 so I could buy coke. Let that be a lesson to the kids, two lessons actually. First lesson is that Angus is a little guy! Second, drugs suck!

you hook up an sg or any guitar...a ukulele plugged into a present day concert sound system with 10 Marshall double stack amps pushing would sound as big.

I actually met his brother malcom once and didn't even know it at the time. It was november 1983 after an ac/dc concert in roanoke va. After the concert, my friend and i were hanging around the parking lot waiting for all the traffic to clear out so we could get to our car and get out of there. Around midnight two guys came walking out of where the tractor trailer rigs were parked and one of them came up and said "Hey friend, you got an extra smoke to spare?" I said "yeah man" and flipped a couple of cigarettes out of the pack and handed it to them. They fired them up, took a couple of drags and said thank's man, then walked away. My friend said "do you know who that guy with the foreign accent was? That is Malcom young, Angus Young's older brother. I said, why didn't you say something while he was standing right there next to us? He said, i don't know man i guess i was too nervous to say anything. Well, that was the night i met the founder of A/C D/C and missed the chance to talk to a rock -n- roll legend!
Omg lol well its still a great story to tell even if you didnt get an autograph or anything. I know this doesnt compare but I met the band Survivor (eye of the tiger) and they asked me to go on the road with them, and I actually thought about it! LOL that was when I was young and pretty. But I didnt go with them, and got to work on Monday and really questioned that decision lol

Without a doubt one of the greatest live guitarists/performers to ever pick up a six string. When you watch him live, it's like he's in a state of ecstasy. He never looks at his instrument, he is completely in the zone, he is one with his guitar. An incredible musician. His brother was his equal. They were born to do this.

I first saw ACDC at the Commodore Motel in Albury NSW Australia December 27, 1975. The energy coming out of Bon and Angus, they just worked the crowd. It was hot and crowded, Angus bared his ass. He was just a kid, amazing to think now.

I'm a drummer since 1965 and I just turned 70. Excellent. What a guy and guitar player.
I met him twice in the same weekend, London 1988. An absolute gentleman. Me and my friends weighed in to appear in the crowd scene for the then new single That's The Way I Wanna Rock n Roll. The "live" part of the video was filmed in Wembley Arena where the band did a 3 night run. My brother and a close friend who also were in the video have since passed away. Neither of them lived to see their 26th birthday. I miss those guys. I miss those days. Keep going as long as you can, Angus. Keep flying that flag for Rock n Roll.

I only just became a fan of ACDC. I had listened to their music but had never seen them perform. Oh how I regret that. They are superb. Amazing. Angus is so incredible on stage. I went to see an ACDC tribute band recently and couldn't believe the performance . So I googled ACDC concerts and it blew me away. I think Angus should rank up there as one of the top guitarist and performers on stage in the world. He gives 110% to each performance. Plus he is such a nice guy in person. He seems very humble even though he is so famous. What a great guy as are the others in the band.
