  • Many have asked how I made my transducer pole. I have been through MANY revisions, last was version 3.9. This video shows how I made this finally work right. The video says under $70.00 but that is including the cost of the RAM Mount. The cost was under $20.00 if you have a RAM Mount.

      Not sure what he is talking about. Think he might be meaning the twisting part. I just left enough extra slack (after that video) where I can spin it 360 and not put strain on the wires. Would also like to know what he is talking about in case I am missing something.

    Love the video. I just made one basically just like yours and it works great. I added Velcro (the soft side) to the 1” pipe at the top middle and bottom to tighten it up inside the 1 1/4” pipe and it worked great. Gives enough friction to keep it from rotating.

    When I made mine, I put a 45 degree V-shaped junction on my 1 inch and have two handles 180 degrees apart. Looks like bicycle handlebar. Easier to look in all directions without having to reposition boat. I like the paint- looks less jethro bodine that way. Will get a can and paint mine to match boat. A little lithium grease in larger tube will keep it from squeaking at U-bolt attachment. Nice! Now go catch some big ones.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Humm, good ideas! I do not normally have to turn it way off to the side unless the wind is up and blowing me all over, which seems to happen a lot. I had thought about some WD40 but Lithium Grease sounds like it might be better. Thank you and thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

    I have made a series of these. With that said, there is no way I count have it on my Ulterra. It gets wrapped up in itself on every other spot lock. My next version will have two handles. You will find if you have to make wide turns with the transducer, you will strain to see the image. So a second arm, will allow my to see the screen at all times. I like the way your ram is mounted to the side of the troller

    I originally made mine 6ft but after using it a few times and hitting the pole on submerged timber I since moved it starboard side and shortened it to where it's only 3 or 4ft into the water since I'm right handed anyway. And it worked out great I'm not hitting things anymore and by shortening it. It took the sway out of it because it made it lighter.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, being in the water farther really plays havoc with it. Mine is just short of my trolling motor. I have hit stuff with it but the ram mount allows it to move and not break. Good deal

      @@AsleepAtTheReel mine is exactly the same ram mount I'm glad it wasn't a fixed mount like some of these 300.00 pole mounts are when I did thump a submerged tree it flexed back. I made mine exact length into the water as if I had it 7in above on the trolling motor shaft.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a separate mount because I do not want to have my trolling motor dictate where livescope is pointing. The ones that are attached to the motor but move independently make me lean forward too much to fish and aim. I would rather the bar be right in front of me for ease of use. Thanks for watching.

      Awesome. I love mine. The only thing that I have added to this is to put a lubricant in the pipe. Find the right amount of pressure in the mount itself when squeezing the 1 1/4 inch pipe and there should not be much noise, but adding a lubricant to it makes it smooth and no risk of running fish off. • @meals24u

    Wow, nice setup! Wonder if one could build a fixed one with pvc and ram mount like that for a conventional 2d sonar setup? One that doesn’t move, but can be easily taken up back into the boat when moving spots, like the TM?
    Or would at that point mounting to TM be a better option?

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends on your boat, but I would think that off the trolling motor would be a better option. If it is not removed but folded up it is going to be in the way, so if you come in hard to a dock or something I could see that being a problem. It can be done however, probably the same way I did mine.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Travis Christians thanks and great question. Unfortunately I do not have an answer for that as I only use the live scope on the Garmin. For my mapping and other I use the humminbird so the only screen I am on is livescope. I would think it would not do anything to the map but I could see a depth issue. I would think there is a depth setting so you can do a -3 or something of that sort, I am out of town but that would be interesting to play with and figure out to let people know. If anyone has the answer please post.

      Thank you for watching. For this is simply put it on my deck and drive off. The RAM mount is not strong enough to support it sideways. I quit using this mount about a year ago and went with the BeatDown Outdoors mount as this was wearing out, plus anytime I moved with the trolling motor the mount would start coming out of the water because the mount was hard to tighten and the water would push it up. To see the Beatdown mount, follow this link and go in about 2.5 minutes. Thank you for watching. th-cam.com/video/yQWR8PEthHA/w-d-xo.html

    I assume the mounting clamps that come with the transducer fit on the 1” pipe. How much of the inch & a quarter did you have to cut off to mount the transducer and at the top. Are u still able to store the black box under the hull or lay it on top. How do you store it when transporting your boat. I want a set up like yours just needed to clear up. Thanks.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions. I may do a new video this weekend on that to show you better. Basically the transducer only fits on a 1 inch pipe, anything bigger requires longer screws. I cut off just enough to mount the 45 angle on the 1 inch. The black box is in my storage compartment. For storage, I just take it off the ram mount and lay on my deck, strap it down with the rod holders and I am good. I just drove 8 hours with it there and all way fine. If you want more info, email me with your phone number at chris@lonestarwarriorsoutdoors.org and I will give you a call and answer anything that I have not already answered. You used a c sized ram ball correct? How did the ram arm itself hold up when moving with trolling motor? Was it solid or did it have alot of flex? I'm just getting LS, I have Lvs34 system on it's way. I need make or buy a hand control pole mount for my kayak. I average 4.5mph when I peddling my drive system. I'm not sure how ram arm will hold up to constant resistance from water? Thanks

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the great question. It held up really well. I usually held it as I was moving because I was scanning and it was a long pole, so once I started moving fast, it would work its way up pretty quick, but on normal 3-5 power it was fine. I think a smaller pole would allow less movement.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
      @AsleepAtTheReel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends. I can fold it up and set the transducer in the boat if I am just going to motor slowly for a few minutes. If I am going to move fast I simply unscrew it set it in the boat the put it back on when I get to where I am going. It literally takes 10 seconds to attach and 10 seconds to set back up.

      Thanks for watching and great question. To be honest, I now use the Beatdown Outdoors Breakaway mount, but I used this for almost 2 years before switching. The reason I switched was because I wore it out, or rather the handle where it connected as I purposly did not glue it to make it easier to store. To answer your question, It is held on the trilling motor with a RAM mount. I would simply take it off to move. It did not take but a few seconds to reach over, unscrew it and lay on the deck. Once I got to the new location, I would put it back on. It was really fast. With the Beatdown Outdoors, I simply pull one pin and it drops in the water, which is a lot quicker, but honestly it did not take more than 10 seconds to tighten the ram mount when I got to a location. Hope that helps and great question. If interested in the Beatdown Outdoors, look in the description of my video and there is a code for 10% off. Have a great day!

    Kendall Fredrick sent me to your channel. You could eliminate tension by installing a 1-1/4” Tee and come off Tee with a small pipe and another 1-1/4” Tee and attach U-bolts to that Tee.

    • @AsleepAtTheReel
