    My 5 year old dumeril has no feeding response either and really never has. She never misses a meal but I haven’t seen her strike since she was a baby. She will just gently take it off the tongs set it down in her cage and start eating. Very docile and curious snake. They seem to have a different intelligence or personality than any other snake I’ve had. They seem to actually enjoy being handled where as most snakes will tolerate it but rather be left alone. Mine even likes to hang out with my English bulldog. She will lay on him while we watch TV and not move for hours. Very strange snake lol

      Amazing! Was she always like that as a baby? Or did you get her at that age?

    Not too many people on TH-cam talk about hook training. I have used it on my Woma pythons for years now and if you know about them they have a really good food response. Awesome job on this video.

      Yes I love womas! I saw one at one of the first expos I ever went to, and ever since then I’ve wanted one! When I was researching dumerils, a lot of people talked about their feeding response and tap training, and I use it on both my large snakes, and I find it very helpful, even if they don’t have much of a initial feeding response - it just makes me feel better and it’s a nice precautionary measure! Thank you so much for your positive feedback and for watching! 😁

      eventually i’ll be building him an enclosure! I dont like his current enclosure, but it’ll be ft. in my upcoming room tour. Once I move him and my bci will get a huge build and I’ll def be making videos on that!😁

    Mine has a very calm response to opening cage. No hook. I guess i got lucky. Hes never even struck or hissed at me even while being treated for a rub on his nose. Great snakes.

      Absolutely! Kronk is an angel! But I like to tap train my larger snakes as a preventative measure, even though neither one of them would do anything 😄

    That is a GORGEOUS high pink dumerils. That's it I won't settle for less. When I finally buy a dumerils I want high pink like him.
    Was he high pink as a baby?

    “Lazy, useless snake” 😂 I didn’t even research that, that’s too funny. I looooove my dumeril’s boa! She’s the most gentle little thing. I can’t wait for her to get to Kronk’s size 😍

    • @BBsBeasties
      @BBsBeasties 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve also noticed that, yes, she is super strong like a boa is supposed to be but she’s not at all as strong as my actual boa CONSTRICTOR, which helps with handling.

    Sorry to ask but I was just wondering if it’s necessary to vaccinate your iguana. Again sorry for so many questions from me.

    Would an adult attack a cat if it escaped? These seem like really awesome, unique snakes, and I'm pretty interested, but - if it escapes - I don't want to have to explain a missing kitty to my friends and family.

    • @zareptiles
      @zareptiles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the size and age of your snake, that’s always a possibility. I would be more concerned about the cat hurting the snake and causing an infection. I’ve honestly never heard of anyone’s house pets (dogs/cats) being attacked be a loose snake. Typically when a snake escapes it’s just going to find somewhere warm and dark to curl up and sleep. Also, that’s just more incentive to take the precautions to make sure your snake enclosures are secure and locked when you are finished 😁 luckily I’ve got zookeeper brain, so I’m always paranoid about locks 😂 they are very awesome snakes! Definitely my favorite snake to keep!

    • @exquisitecorpse4917
      @exquisitecorpse4917 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zareptiles Obviously, I'm not planning for there to be an escape; we're building our own lid for the tank with magnetic tape and lots of locks, so it's supposed to be escape proof. But, if I were looking at cobras, I'd plan for a bite even if I didn't plan on being bitten. The object is to find a snake that - at adult size - will be too big for the cats to mess with but too small to eat a cat. Maybe a Central American is closer to the mark?

    How would these compare to a BCI?

    • @zareptiles
      @zareptiles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Samoa, the other boa I mentioned, is a BCI. They are very similar! BCIs tend to get a little bigger than Dumerils on average, but do have the possibility of getting much much bigger. I’m expecting Samoa to be huge! I think she’s just over a year, I cant quite remember of the top of my head what I figured out from the time frame her last owner gave me, but she’s already the same size as Kronk. I haven’t worked with enough to know if it’s just Samoa or not, but she’s very crazy lol where the Dumerils boas are slow moving lazy snakes, BCIs (atleast mine) moves a lot, and she in particular likes to fling her body around lol!

    • @brookeelle6879
      @brookeelle6879 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZA Reptiles I have a baby BCI, under a year old and I’m amazed how fast she’s growing! She’s been shedding every other week it seems 👀 she’s a suuuuper chill snake though, your Dumeril’s temperament reminds me a lot of her, especially how you said she’s the best to watch tv with! 😍
