I think if I did something as impressive as what Bond does and I thought of a nice quip to say, I'd still say it even if no one else was around to hear it.
I say things like "nice going dickhead" out loud when I drop something or make a mistake primarily when I'm alone so that's sort of the same but also not at all

I was totally expecting the ol' " if it bleeds, it leads" line, when I first saw this movie. Still think that would've been better than the actual dialogue.
The whole Doctor Kaufman (dumb torture guy) bit was incredible. I loved that he spends most his scene explaining his entire elaborate backstory, only to get immediately killed.

"Tomorrow Never Dies" is my 2nd favorite Bond film and has my 2nd favorite Bond theme song. It is also my number 1 favorite Bond video game. I had it for the PS1, and I replayed it for many, many months.
Honestly all the Brosnan movies (bar Die Another Day) get a really unfair wrap. I feel they're all really entertaining adventure movies with all the staples you want from a Bond movie

Mr. Stamper has his senses twisted and feels pleasure when he should feel pain, so how do you stop a guy like that..and it’s got a very interesting and plausible plot. It’s arguably in my top 5 on any given day but normally it’s my #6 favorite Bond film behind: 1. Goldeneye 2. Casino Royale 3. License To Kill 4. The Spy Who Loved Me 5. You Only Live Twice
Bond wasn't "black ops", but Ian Fleming was inspired by British commando missions of WWII that took place under his command (working for intelligence). I don't think the Bond of the books had actually been a commando.
This is my favorite Brosnan entry. I still like Goldeneye, but I just prefer TND more. It's fast-paced, the way its crafted holds up incredibly well today, the story is surprisingly relevant, and Brosnan really came into his own in the role. I love Michelle Yeoh, and it's fun watching Jonathan Pryce chew up the scenery. Also major props to David Arnold's musical score.

these videos have been great Nostalgia for my childhood. my Dad was working at BMW at the time of the releases, and would always bring home the bond cars and bikes to our house and we felt like the coolest kids being dropped off at school in them.
Just on the back of that chap from the letters in last nights Weekly Planet podcast, I didn't have as bad a time watching Die Another Day with my parents when it came to cinema, but I could feel the tension from them after the "I thought Christmas only came once a year" line. That was some New Years Eve.

Watched this movie last night for the first time (had only seen a few bits-and-pieces before) and was immensely entertained! Much better than 99% of the stuff on DirecTV since March.
Bit of trivia, but Bond actually only wore the Commander uniform in three films: Connery wore it in You Only Live Twice, Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me, and Brosnan in this movie. Daniel Craig's Bond canonically still got his training in the navy, and still holds the title of Commander, as seen in his obituary in Skyfall. He has never donned the uniform, though.
I don't think I've seen the movie since I was a kid and yet the motorbike chase still sticks in my mind! Brosnan is my favourite Bond and Michelle Yeoh is fantastic too.

I've been watching through all the Bond CoG videos... it's amazing to me that they've never brought up Archer during this. They even have inadvertently said some Archer-esque things. The whole "I'm just doing banter" at around 14:00 .... that's actually very close to an actual joke from Archer.
Too bad you guys didn’t talk about the “end credit song” Surrender by KD Lang! It was the original title song called Tomorrow Never Dies & is infinitely better in my opinion. It was written by David Arnold, the best Bond composer after John Barry, so it fits in with the films score. Unfortunately the producers changed it last minute because they wanted a singer with more “heat” and popularity at the time, which is dumb & something the Broccolis have & continue to do, shelving songs and performances that are far better than what we eventually got.
i would love if in the new films at some point, Q gives the classic spiel “oh bond mate, you gotta bring the car back” *wink wink* and then after a massive battle, he just waltzes in with the car and the entire Q branch is just staring at Bond, and by the end Q just goes “thank you” and Bond nonchalantly walks away
That thing with Bond being a psychopath with a sheen of civility - I've always explained it as knowing which fork to use at a formal dinner, but also knowing six different ways to kill you with each one.

By coincidence, I was just thinking about 1985's _A View To A Kill_. That film has got to have the most awkward, ham-fisted title drops in cinema history. Main villain Max Zorin is flying an airship over the Golden Gate Bridge and his hench-woman Mayday (Grace Jones) remarks "What a view!" then leans in and adds "...to a kill!" What the fuck does that even mean? Also, Max Zorin is played by Christopher Walken. I keep thinking "Christopher Walken would be a great Bond Villain!" Then I remember he actually was a Bond Villain and it was shit.
I am glad that you re-evaluated Tomorrow Never Dies and liked it a bit more. I thought it was great, a refreshing change. Michelle Yeoh was a different take on the "Bond girl" andthe locations and some of the fight sequences, notably the helicopter attack, were novel.
Ben, the Mountain Dew gag is probably my favourite thing you've ever edited. I mean, you've done some incredibly complex, difficult, and impressive stuff, I don't wanna take away from those accomplishments.

Funny how Jonathan Pryce ended up replacing Anthony Hopkins as Elliot Carver, especially when you realize that Jonathan Pryce played Pope Francis in The Two Popes where he acts alongside Anthony Hopkins as Pope Benedict.
(Pope Francis also replaced Pope Benedict, so there's that.)

I didn't have an N64 when GoldenEye came out so my 9 year old PS1 self did his absolute best to convince himself Tomorrow Never Dies was a good game when in all honesty controls like absolute butt crumbs.
The BMW level was cool though🤷
these videos have been great Nostalgia for my childhood. my Dad was working at BMW at the time of the releases, and would always bring home the bond cars and bikes to our house and we felt like the coolest kids being dropped off at school in them.
It genuinely is one of my favourite Bond films. Silly in all the right ways! :)
Just on the back of that chap from the letters in last nights Weekly Planet podcast, I didn't have as bad a time watching Die Another Day with my parents when it came to cinema, but I could feel the tension from them after the "I thought Christmas only came once a year" line. That was some New Years Eve.

I like the scene at the party where super spy James Bond draws loads of attention to himself by basically telling the villain that he knows his plans.

Watched this movie last night for the first time (had only seen a few bits-and-pieces before) and was immensely entertained! Much better than 99% of the stuff on DirecTV since March.
Although kinda dumb, Tomorrow never dies is highly entertaining and a lot of fun.

This movie was just basically The Spy Who Loved Me with China switched for the USSR. Carver is even almost as Blofeldian as Stromberg.
And The Spy Who Loved Me was You Only Live Twice but with stolen submarines instead of stolen spacecraft.

Bit of trivia, but Bond actually only wore the Commander uniform in three films: Connery wore it in You Only Live Twice, Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me, and Brosnan in this movie. Daniel Craig's Bond canonically still got his training in the navy, and still holds the title of Commander, as seen in his obituary in Skyfall. He has never donned the uniform, though.

I don't think I've seen the movie since I was a kid and yet the motorbike chase still sticks in my mind! Brosnan is my favourite Bond and Michelle Yeoh is fantastic too.
11:10 - Bit more complex than Rare losing the license. They already wanted to do something around aliens under their own IP, and some of the team were sick of 007 anyway. When Nintendo did get outbid, they weren't too fussed and pressed ahead with creating Perfect Dark instead.

This was the first Bond movie I ever saw as a little lad. And the game was one of the few games I had back then, so I played it over and over. Thank you guys for some sweet memories!

I've been watching through all the Bond CoG videos... it's amazing to me that they've never brought up Archer during this. They even have inadvertently said some Archer-esque things.
The whole "I'm just doing banter" at around 14:00 .... that's actually very close to an actual joke from Archer.

Too bad you guys didn’t talk about the “end credit song” Surrender by KD Lang! It was the original title song called Tomorrow Never Dies & is infinitely better in my opinion. It was written by David Arnold, the best Bond composer after John Barry, so it fits in with the films score. Unfortunately the producers changed it last minute because they wanted a singer with more “heat” and popularity at the time, which is dumb & something the Broccolis have & continue to do, shelving songs and performances that are far better than what we eventually got.
Absolutely agree, such an underrated song.

i would love if in the new films at some point, Q gives the classic spiel “oh bond mate, you gotta bring the car back” *wink wink* and then after a massive battle, he just waltzes in with the car and the entire Q branch is just staring at Bond, and by the end Q just goes “thank you” and Bond nonchalantly walks away
That thing with Bond being a psychopath with a sheen of civility - I've always explained it as knowing which fork to use at a formal dinner, but also knowing six different ways to kill you with each one.
The video game was how I got introduced to James Bond and this film is the first Bond film I’ve seen, so this holds a special place in my heart. Great content as usual! I loved the bit about how the Union Jack parachute gives away the nationality of James Bond XD

By coincidence, I was just thinking about 1985's _A View To A Kill_. That film has got to have the most awkward, ham-fisted title drops in cinema history. Main villain Max Zorin is flying an airship over the Golden Gate Bridge and his hench-woman Mayday (Grace Jones) remarks "What a view!" then leans in and adds "...to a kill!"
What the fuck does that even mean?
Also, Max Zorin is played by Christopher Walken. I keep thinking "Christopher Walken would be a great Bond Villain!" Then I remember he actually was a Bond Villain and it was shit.
I am glad that you re-evaluated Tomorrow Never Dies and liked it a bit more. I thought it was great, a refreshing change. Michelle Yeoh was a different take on the "Bond girl" andthe locations and some of the fight sequences, notably the helicopter attack, were novel.
