Yes i am aware of how many times i said "like", sorry this was the first interview i have done in a very long time im very rusty, hope you enjoy what Joel has to say regardless
Hey, i can see youre putting your heart into this and i can feel it in the editing/cuts, bringing up good topics and questions, and giving joel time to talk and answer completely. But yeh try to say like and um less, be comfortable to be quiet while you think of what your saying. Practice and youll get there. Ima sub and see where you go from here!
Joel is a gem, i got to catch an early ticket on the algorithm train for his channel, and it's been outrageous to see his subscriber count climb. He deserves it and has cultivated somehow an amazing comment section.
Joel is one of the few creators I still get excited about when they drop a new vid. He makes such hilarious shorts and some of his feature length stuff is super emotional and impactful
What Joel says about content creators pushing one another to be better is spot on. It’s like they are all just using algorithms and the same blue print to just get their videos monetized and make money off of them.
So glad Joel is getting recognition. I mean, I wasn't there since the beginning at all I just found out about him but still, he deserves the recognition
gotdangit the more i see of joel the more i love him. also will, incredible interview! engaging, interesting questions, thoughtful responses and you give plenty of space for joel to talk.
I think to make the quality of his weekly content, as well as the raw exposure of himself, he has to be real. That's the reason his content delivers so consistently, he's not trying more than what anyone deserves.
The travesty is that the industry was meant to stay an apprenticeship model and help nurture those passionate about the craft of storytelling. Thanks for this interview 😊
No offense to the host but damn Joel is great at being interviewed, I could tell the host was a bit on the nervous/awkward side and not super prepared but Joel carried this interview with insanely thoughtful comments and insights and really helped fill any dead air or awkwardness. I would love to see more interviews of Joel on this channel and even going in deeper about his features and what inspired them would be great too. Once again, not a negative comment at all on the host's side he did way better than I would and I think it will be more fluid between them if they continue to talk more too.
Main thing I got from my college other than a piece of paper was the admin telling me an opening for a part time job that was less than a year and one guy who hooked me up with a job that lasted 5 years. That's about it.
I didn't go to film school but did do a couple of screenwriting subjects as part of a combined degree, and arguably the main takeaway in practical terms was the existence of Final Draft, even though i really enjoyed those classes and we looked at films that were more contemporary and relevant than the dated hero's journey scriptwriting stuff in the library. Unfortunately very little in the way of networking at that time in those circumstances. There's more i could say, but it's pretty interesting to tune in to other peoples experiences.
As someone who straddles the line of vetting movies based on directors / addicted to TH-cam... I love this conversation about TH-cam being an avenue for real creators. Really happy to hear it offers a solid revenue stream for film makers. Agree that TH-cam will hopefully do to movies what Spotify did to music, but hopefully keeping the compensation up there.
Subbed! As much as TH-cam has changed, it's still a great place for anyone (well known or underground) to publish their content and build a community. Keep up the good work! :)
when I saw the title I thought this was a series where you talk to artists who are alive and then I thought „is there an alternate series where you talk to dead people?“
It's crazy when I think about just the past 5 years how many people have popped up on TH-cam, I've personally been on here since 2006. I remember the wild west days of TH-cam..
i mean, this was ten-ish years ago, but what about art kids? i had some friends who were in art school and there were some jaw-dropping beauties in there. love your stuff joel :] and thanks will
That apathetic discussion really screamed H3H3, and they're damn lucky they became successful with their podcast because they were definitely exhausted by the TH-cam grind.
That happens to anyone who is only doing things based on what will make them the most money, you become emotionally and physically drained because you’re doing it for a paycheck so you’re waiting for the end instead of just doing what you want and enjoying what you’re doing... I think they tried to please their audience too much so it’s not that they just didn’t care
I was thinking about them too lol. Inspiration/dedication to work and quality-Success-depression-apathy-then just doing it for a paycheck and click baiting everything for that fast cash with little to no effort on the content itself. Remember actually being so bummed to see Ethan just slouched in his chair talking about dead air and berating his I.T. guy over dumb shit and thinking how much enthusiasm he and that channel lost for their content.
The apathetic discussion really rings true on the platform nowadays. So many bigger creators, (and creators who are small but only in it for the money), only create content to say they got content out. Some of the letsplay channels, for example, focus less on the content they're playing and instead focus on doing trendy things to get views. I'm honestly tempted to say specific examples, but I think everyone knows a creator they used to watch that has done this. On the flip side, youtubers like Markiplier have made absolute waves by creating content they WANT to create, rather than doing the most trendy thing; Unus Annus (Memento Mori) is a perfect example of this because nobody knew how it'd do. That being said, even Markiplier, (albeit for only a short time), fell into the apathetic trap; Playing Undertale purely to shut people up, rather than because he wanted to. The fact of the matter is that when a creator doesn't care about the content, it really shows in the content they produce. It's honestly why Joel has risen so quicky as of recent; His content is genuine and he cares about making content he's happy with. I hope more TH-camrs start to develop or regain the mindset that Joel has currently.
TH-cam is a great platform for your primary income if you do comedy or popular culture based shorts. Give me one example of someone getting by doing something else, fiction film wise.
Who is the director from the last spider man movies? Like, there's sam reimi, there's mark webb and then there's marvel's mcu spider man Like, what Joel said really makes sense
Be prepared to roll with the incoming punches. Platforms like TH-cam and Patreon are becoming a lot more hostile to their users, for whatever reasons they may pretend to have. The wide internet is great for what was discussed here, but the name dropping of the biggest platforms made it sound like there are no alternatives. Dont let their increasingly tarnished history hold you back!
I was watching "nice dreams" by cheech and chong. I feel as if back in the 1970s the film industry was alot like what youtube is gonna turn into about 10 years from now, professional but still have some stupid unprofessional things in it
Yes i am aware of how many times i said "like", sorry this was the first interview i have done in a very long time im very rusty, hope you enjoy what Joel has to say regardless

I like...liked it. :) you cool.
Didn't notice till you mentioned it
Dont worry I say "Like" too much as well, guess we all have a little Shaggy in us dont we?
You're doing great! You're thriving!
Joel has such a clear and grounded outlook on life, genuinely happy for his success
Joel looking like a Saint with that holy lighting shining in 😂
The more I watch stuff where Joel gets to talk about his passion, the more respect I get for him. He's constantly dropping truths.
I’m so glad I found Joel’s channel. Everything he makes is incredible he’s such an inspiration
*Hold*

Joel has become one of my favorite content creators in such a small amount of time. Wishin’ him the best
Yes, he's a visionary
His voice is like that when he talks normally. I love him.
God bless Joel. Been a minute since I saw well written and shot comedy on TH-cam
I watched it because of the style and stayed for the content. Thanks Mi G

Joel seems like such a real guy

I love Joel Haver he rocks!!
All of my yes to this moment. Thank you for this monent
Adventure awaits!
HUZZAHHHHHHHH!!
Honestly as an animator the fact that he found a shortcut before me seriously pisses me off but on the other hand this guy is super cool
Dope interview. Some good content.

Omfg I love will Barker!! I didn't know you were doing interviews!

Wow, that's powerful that he knows what his dad would want for him.
Film school sounds a lot like college. A shit ton of money that goes to waste unless you have networking connections.

Hey will! Its awesome seeing you interview Joel. Im mostly familiar through QT's videos but this is awesome!
He's a good dude. Nice interview 👌
"TH-cam allows for this realm where things don't have to perfect, and they don't have to be professional, and they don't have to be expensive."

TH-cam inspired me to do my own creative work. Is way easyer/harder than it seems, but makes me feel alive.
I shouldn't be surprised that you two are aware of each other's work, but I'm glad to see this.
Keep making interviews on TH-cam!!!
“You could still be funny when you’re sad” hit me
Really interesting, thanks guys
Subbed! As much as TH-cam has changed, it's still a great place for anyone (well known or underground) to publish their content and build a community. Keep up the good work! :)
I don't fully know what to comment, but I just wanted to say that I really like the different shots that where used. I was very engaged!
ADVENTURE AWAITS HUZZAH!!!

I love that Joel talks IRL like Steve Carrell after smoking a blunt, and it's not just for his videos.
Genuine Products > Manufactured Acting
This is great man :)
i mean, this was ten-ish years ago, but what about art kids? i had some friends who were in art school and there were some jaw-dropping beauties in there. love your stuff joel :] and thanks will

Joel doesn’t sound ANY different from his skits!
you’re right, Joel does sound like Joel
He doesnt do a voice when he's playing a chracter
Amazing

You know someone has studied film because they will use the word "auteur"
(Gasps)Ooh?
The first few minutes the camera is like in a plastic lol
Next thing you know TH-cam makes a theater
#TH-camrsVsTH-cam
Wait he talks like this irl? 🤠
I was watching "nice dreams" by cheech and chong. I feel as if back in the 1970s the film industry was alot like what youtube is gonna turn into about 10 years from now, professional but still have some stupid unprofessional things in it
I counted 17 ''like'' in the first question asked by the interviewer. Thats a Big No No, you should work on that, good to see Joel nevertheless
