In 1984 during the civil war in El Salvador my grandfather was a security guard for a school in a poor town. A group of soldiers from the government believed that he was aiding rebels and so they put him on his knees and shot around him multiple times questioning him. After that my grandfather had issues with drinking and lost his sense of reality, while dealing with the fear that the soldiers would come after him, he committed suicide shortly after when my mother was 12 years old. There is something so special about the music that every member of silent planet puts in, so heartfelt and relatable. Thank you for allowing me to understand my grandfather and have compassion for him even though he is no longer here.
I’m from El Salvador, I currently live here in San Miguel. I was born a couple of years after the war was completely over and believe, the war still hits to this day, all the violence, all the cruelty are taking their toll still.
As a combat vet who struggles with PTSD, this song really hit home. Actually teared up listening to this song. Thank you for the awareness and amazing song!
Sometimes I just read Silent Planet lyrics because they are such incredible pieces of poetry. It is sad to think that mainstream music will never be this complex, well thought out, and perfectly executed. This band is made of brilliant men.
This band sets Meltalcore to a whole new level. The passion, the meaning, the topics they discuss, everything is amazing. I feel blessed since I found this band that quickly became my favourite band. Thanks for the masterpieces.
I honestly looked at their views to see how popular they were becsuse I figured it cost them a lot to make this video because it was so well done lol, but then I realized how very underrated they are!!
Hello friends! I did a reaction to this song ,since one of my viewers asked me to do a reaction to it, would love some support and some feedback thank you so much! And much love to all! th-cam.com/video/JTrZ7I9w4ZY/w-d-xo.html
This is what music is all about people. Passionate members who use their gifts from God to spread awareness for important issues and support those in need. I'm so glad I got to be a part of this band before they made it big so I could watch the growth. Thanks SP, keep going baby! These guys are special.
Story time: I met a retired Marine one day while I was working at a Starbucks a few years ago. He was a returning customer and we became friends. He is a 76 year old man that also served as a police officer with missing fingers and the whole 9 yards, and I am a 22 year old who was always against wars. But I had no idea... As we spoke more and more, throughout a time span of about 2 years, he revealed to me that every night that he has severe night terrors and suffers from PTSD. With tears in his eyes, he said he loved his country but it wasn't worth it. True Patriots dont send men like that to do such horrible things, that's all I have to say

Presidents don't care about the ones who fight their wars. It's sad how a man or woman gives its life over a meaningless conflict. It really sadness me to see a veteran still haunted by its demons.
So proud to call these talented musicians my friends. Very excited to see what the future holds for them, because they're going places. Thank you, Silent Planet.
I love this, my father has suffered from ptsd. he is a 100% combat disabled vet, and I spent a good chunk of my youth helping to take care of him. Now I serve in the AF. this was great thank you!
Hey everyone! As you might know, garrett and I did a lyric "track by track" for the last album and we will be releasing something very soon in relation to this album as well. Please, do yourself a favor and subscribe to my channel so you can be notified when we release these videos and you can learn more behind the message this band has.
As a vet this song means everything I’ve lost friends brothers/sisters in both war overseas and mental wars thank you for this and bringing awareness. Got my new favorite band
If Micah Kinard from Oh Sleeper and Garrett got together and wrote a song together it would be the pinnacle of perfection when it comes to lyrics/poetry.
as a man who never had parents as a boy, who served his country, went to war, fuck anyone who says i dont feel emotional peace through this music. this song made me cry before i saw the video. i was a us army combat engineer, and combined this song brings joy and tears. metal saves me by allowing me to vent my emotion through music. nothing is real, nothing is real.
5 minutes ago, I was still a child. I was young innocent, and green in the ways of the world. Now I find myself standing atop a mountain, surveying the landscape through eyes I never knew I had. This is the first time that I have experienced the harsh reality of PTSD as was conveyed so honestly through that young gentleman's brutal portrayal of life after war. I stand here on this mountain clapping, and increasing the rhythm ever so slightly, until the rumble of my applause echoes that of my pounding heart. Bravo, bravo, BRAVO!
..And this is why Silent Planet never disappoints. They sing and play with their heart & soul, with wisdom & compassion. This is deep. I'm so stoked to binge play the new album on repeat just like the last.
As a veteran I just heard this 15 minutes ago. It is the first time ou have ever heard a musician describe it so well I found myself in tears. Thank you for humanity. This is my new favorite band
I loved The Night God Slept to death but I am SOOO happy Garrett brought back the lows as well as some of the punchier highs as we saw on Come Wind, Come Weather. His vocal performance on TNGS was more hardcore-themed (not really a bad thing) but this brings back that heavier atmosphere and really feels more like the "shouted poetry" that he tries to give the world. Not to mention, I'd say these lyrics are some of his best yet in terms of sheer creativity.
Trap God Ehh, not to me. To me, standard hardcore is basically just punk rock, which is to say it's typically angry anarchist rock lol. I feel like these guys are leagues above typical hardcore.
back when he had more of a range, he was hurting his voice, Sean from phinehas taught him how to get that tone use on TNGS, and now he's opening his range back up, but with technique B)
josh beatty I didn't realize Sean taught him how to properly use his vocals, but you really couldn't have a better vocalist as a teacher than Sean haha
Can I get a shirt that says "None of this is real, none of this is real, none of this is real." and on the back it says "But there's a war inside my head." With either whatever their new logo is or the old one.
I can't even describe how much I love this band. I have depression and anxiety issues and they perfectly describe my feelings through music. Pure, raw emotional art. If you struggle with these issues, please get help. There will always be people who love and support you. You are not alone.

I just discovered this song. I spent many years in the army as a paratrooper with a lot of bad experience under my belt (6 deployments). This made me feel shit I didn't know I needed to feel. Thank you.
Not having been to war or anything, there is something to deeply touching and moving about this song. I don't know why, but this song brings tears to my eyes every single time. Even after three years, my favorite song of all time.
It's been 7 years, per TH-cam. I love your new stuff. Superbloom was an incredible album. This, though...... This was incredible. There are too many songs, in every genre, trying to elicit sympathy for veterans. There are not enough that truly acknowledge the hell they've gone through. If you truly support "our troops" you'll support them never having to do shit like this again, no matter what.
This is probly the most deeply written song ive ever heard, its awesome that the PTSD epidemic is having light shown on it, especially by bands to unravel the emotion inside it to show understanding.
This is what music is about. depth and poetry mixed with the perfect visual reflection. it's not just hooks and mass appeal. This you can feel. I showed my brother in law who has PTSD and he was mesmerized and stated it's exactly how he feels. Dark but it shows how war changes you. Epiphanies
Being the son of a veteran and having to learn how to help him in the most positive ways this song really helped me. I apologize to anyone that was active duty and thinks that I'm just a punk but I love my father figure and what he went though makes me feel nothing but compassion for him.
No bull shit a few years ago silent planet dedicating this song to me changed my life forever. As a combat veteran myself ive been dealing with a seizure disorder and migraines due to an injury in afghanistan. I went to see silent planet in pensacola florida, my plan was to kill myself after this song was played, i had written letters to my family and everything a few days before but then as i was in the middle of the pit garret called out to all the veterans dealong with ptsd in the building.. and spoke to me about it for a few seconds before dedicating the song to me and it was so genuine and his words were so kind and carin, even he was tearing up when i told him a small part of my story and that moment truly saved my life and no one knows this but me. My wife was with me at the show and she doesnt even know what i had planned those years ago. Im in a much better space now and go tontherapy through the va almost every week or so. Music is a powerful thing and means more to others than most know or understand. I dont say this for clout or to be special or for people to feel sorry for me i say this because if theres another me out there please reach out as you are not alone. R.i.p. sgt muhr , sgt campbell, ssg massarelli, and ssg strachota
This song speaks volumes in ways that most veterans could never do. As a Combat Veteran, I thank you for this & hope others suffering from PTSD know they are not alone. ;IGY6 - Thank you Silent Planet.
The Panic Room is the mind. The mind when the thoughts of hatred cannot escape, when they are dancing with entropy. We all have a way into this room but it's the way out that intrigues us all, because we don't know a single notion of escape.
"A child stumbles from the wreckage, holding his salvation, the trigger to cessation... I took a life that takes mine" that hits so hard. Especially with the emotion in Garrets voice. Gives me chills every time.
Silent Planet and Garrett nail it again. Love ya Bro. Keep killing it Garrett. Sending prayers that this album may reach all the empty and broken hearts it will. Love God. Love one another. {Hugs & HI-5s} #GabrielsFire
The ambient parts are so unbelievably melancholic, it's just too much for words. It's like the audible form of the suffering and inevitable demise humanity has caused for itself.. the utter sadness behind the frustration, anger and depravity. I love the lyrics, the vocals are on another level and the instrumentals are simply the best I've ever heard. I'll make sure this music lives on as long as I do.
That M3talhead Me too! I have listened to this band some years ago but have forgotten. Rob’s video has reminded me and now I’m sending this song and Nervosa to my friends to check out!!
I can't wait for the rest of the album. Their lyrics are always so deep, so engaging, and relevant. "Everything Was Sound" will be a masterpiece of an album. I hope they release Orphans next!
I heard this literally right after deployment. Being in Iraq, with the fears of IEDs and insurgents, I was constantly anxious. After coming home I realize something was not right with me. Night terrors, and the constant drinking. It scared my wife till the point she would stay wake just to comfort me. It ended up costing me my marriage, at the the tender age of 22....I remember saying that “PTSD would never affect me”, me being a hard-ass Marine, but every man has a breaking point. Thanks guys for this powerful message.
Even though we are from different countries. Assuming you're from the USA and I'm from Canada. I thank you very dearly for your service and helping protect this great continent we live in. My heart is very close to the military as my grandpa served in Denmark during the 40s and having friends and family interested in or are in the army. Yet again, thank you!
I'm sorry that our country is so fucking selfish, blind, and disgraceful when it comes to hypocritical treatment of veterans. Thank you for what you went through for me and my family and friends. I only vote for people to Congress that support expanding veteran benefits. Also, for the presidency.
Note to self, this song and video still give me goosebumps a year later. This song blows my mind honestly, it's absolutely amazing, these guys are so refreshing in a metal scene that has more or less been same old rehashed stuff with a slight twist in recent years
watched the explanation of the song and read the lyrics before I listened and just wow I'm literally speechless. what a timeless work of art.. if only I could watch a movie with HALF the substance as this. congrats SP this is truly something special
The line "I took a life that takes mine" speaks so much in so few words. What an incredible song or better yet, piece of art. It moved me to tears.
first heard this song now... this exact line made me break into tears, so powerful
Me too

Same my man. Same. That line “I took a life that takes mine” is just shattering.
Praise me for my valor, lay me on a crimson tower - justify my endless terror as my “finest hour.”

Mason Bagley this BAND is amazing haha
Dude that line hits me straight in the feels.

The 2nd breakdown when he pulls the trigger gave me chills. Pure amazingness

Right, exactly. Instead we gotta listen to Justin Bieber sing about ice cream or whatever.
I mean twenty one pilots, greenday, and a lot of other really good shit was concidered mainstream..

Matt Conway-Cleaves HOLY FUCK.
"I learned none of this is real, but there's a war inside my head." So. Fucking. POWERFUL.
as a veteran this song really hits home. thank you guys for bringing that awareness! much love
was diagnosed with PTSD when I was a teen. my situation is way different than the soldiers that suffer from this but I sure do know the anxiety.

I love the ambient part of the song, and the slow build up. It gives a "calm before the storm" feel to it.
Revolutionary. This song + video gave me the chills, the good ones. 10/10 would listen again
Wow whoever produced this music video has some serious talent. Definitely one of the best music videos I've ever seen.
Metal does not deserve a band like silent planet. What a time to be alive
Timothy Clark well said, I wouldn't voice it any other way. Fucking brutal hell ya
its literally the ONLY genre that deserves it... lol.

If Micah Kinard from Oh Sleeper and Garrett got together and wrote a song together it would be the pinnacle of perfection when it comes to lyrics/poetry.
agreed
I've been saying this forever. Hopefully one day soon.
I know Garrett said Oh Sleeper is one of their influences. I guess we'll see.
I'd throw Sam Carter, from Architects, into the discussion as well.
Kurt Fridenberger His philosophy is quite hostile to Christianity though. I'm sure they argued on most things regardless.

I have this crazy feeling that Garrett would be a great hip-hop artist. His flow and attitude reminds me of Kendrick so much.
+Tommy W. (MisterMortimer) he has said he listens to hip hop, and kendrick lamar :)
+Asdfjkl that's what I've always thought. I saw someone (I think on this video) describe his lyrics as shouted poetry.
It really kinda is spoken word with metal music. They got their own vibe and it's GREAT. :-)
Check out La Dispute. They are a more punk version of this.
I loved The Night God Slept to death but I am SOOO happy Garrett brought back the lows as well as some of the punchier highs as we saw on Come Wind, Come Weather.

Man I can't explain how amazing this song is, Silent Planet is one of my favorite bands ever! These guys have a great passion in their music!!
"IIIIIIIII TOOOOOOK A LIIIIIFE.... THAAAAT TAAAAKES MIIIINE...." Them lyrics yo. I felt the feel.

And like apologetics also?
Amazing, bro
The ambient parts are so unbelievably melancholic, it's just too much for words. It's like the audible form of the suffering and inevitable demise humanity has caused for itself.. the utter sadness behind the frustration, anger and depravity. I love the lyrics, the vocals are on another level and the instrumentals are simply the best I've ever heard. I'll make sure this music lives on as long as I do.
Robert Houghton brought me here he just did a react vid. damn this song is amazing can feel the emotion in the lyrics
That M3talhead Me too! I have listened to this band some years ago but have forgotten. Rob’s video has reminded me and now I’m sending this song and Nervosa to my friends to check out!!
not even into this offshoot of metal anymore, and SP constantly impress and give me chills. such a powerful performance.
This music video is LEAGUES ahead of anything out there right now.
This is not an open discussion, it's fact.
no
what do you think is better, the video for "Doris" ? lmao
I love them, and the video is great. But come onnnnnnn.
What a beautifully written song. This band is gonna be so huge. Thank God for Silent Planet.
This hits deep. Damn dudes.
my dad has PTSD from war and this song really struck a chord with me. Beautiful song bringing awareness to a situation most brush off.
I can't breathe after this one. Holy shit.
I can't wait for the rest of the album. Their lyrics are always so deep, so engaging, and relevant. "Everything Was Sound" will be a masterpiece of an album. I hope they release Orphans next!
the best part 00:00 - 05:16
Athos oliver agreed.
I’d argue the best part is 5:17 when it repeats again for some reason....
Dev, how could you? ;-;
The best part is actually ∞ to ∞. Because you can just right click, and then hit loop.
true tho
It doesn’t matter how many times I listen to this song. It brings me to the brink of tears every time.
And it sounds like this... WAR!
Amazing song
Oscar Velasco A year later and the delivery of that line still sends chills down my spine
As a veteran, I approve of this message.
Thank you for your service and God Bless!
Thank you for your service, sir!
thanks all, just glad some people care
Even though we are from different countries. Assuming you're from the USA and I'm from Canada. I thank you very dearly for your service and helping protect this great continent we live in. My heart is very close to the military as my grandpa served in Denmark during the 40s and having friends and family interested in or are in the army. Yet again, thank you!
I'm sorry that our country is so fucking selfish, blind, and disgraceful when it comes to hypocritical treatment of veterans. Thank you for what you went through for me and my family and friends.
I only vote for people to Congress that support expanding veteran benefits. Also, for the presidency.
This is not only music. This is an emotional experience listening to this band.
song is amazing and the video fits it so perfectly. great band
Note to self, this song and video still give me goosebumps a year later. This song blows my mind honestly, it's absolutely amazing, these guys are so refreshing in a metal scene that has more or less been same old rehashed stuff with a slight twist in recent years
This is one of the greatest music videos ever made...holy fuck
watched the explanation of the song and read the lyrics before I listened and just wow I'm literally speechless. what a timeless work of art.. if only I could watch a movie with HALF the substance as this. congrats SP this is truly something special
