They actually did film the naked nurse with Freddy make up. There are images online. It was scary in theory. But in practice, it did not work because no one can do Freddy like Robert can.
I had read, the Phillip character (The sleepwalker) was suppose to be a kid of around 10. The logic being of the dolls and toys he made and he was the easiest for Freddy to get to first and as such, the death of the kid of the group messed up all the others. Story wise, it makes scary sense. And would have been the one death in this franchise that would have been the most disturbing.
@@DBSG1976 I just read the original Wes Craven script and yes, Phillip was the youngest of the kids. I think closer 12 years old, but still. In the original script Freddy is seen hunching over Phillip as a puppet master and the kid crying and asking "Please, why me, why?" Freddy was taking too much pleasure in this kill and says "Because I like you." as he looks down on Phillip and slimes and drools all over his face.
@@DBSG1976 It is. Its very messed up. It feels like its own thing as there are a number of things they took for this film. And even used in Dream Child as the film starts with Freddy being born and clawing out of his mother's belly. Plus Heather is more mentally messed up and the Freddy snake attacks her and eats her right up to her neck and says "How about a little head?". He also eats Tyran via stomach teeth as he tricks her by appearing as her grandmother and can't eat her fast enough, so he cuts off her leg and throws it away.
@@DBSG1976 Plus Joey dies, via a bed tearing him apart after a teenage girl from school kissed him and her tongue from within his mouth exits his eye popping it out. Will has a different name and turns into a Gargoyle and fights Freddy who drills him with a machine. Kincade is killed in a scenario where Kristen (Kirsten in the script) teleports the survivors from one place to another and Kincade gets stuck in the portal and Freddy shoves his glove through him and out his mouth. Dark and scary. Make for a great graphic novel alternate version of the film.
I really like "Dream Failures". That seems an appropriate subtitle. The only part of this movie I ever saw as a kid was the big confrontation between various dream warriors (in their cool ability-themed costumes or whatever) and Freddy. I liked that setup because it felt like a cool fantasy story instead of boring creepy horror fiction. (I don't really like horror stories.) And then the warriors just died without accomplishing anything. It annoyed me. They really didn't handle that concept well.
The Dream Warriors theme song transported me back to being 16 again. Damn what a trip. Watching the movie again with your commentary made me realize the problems I have with the Doctor character (Craig Wasson) he has like all the most important scenes and we never learn anything about him. That screen time should have gone to Nancy and the kids. Ashens hit the nail on the head at the end when he said that they don't do enough with the "Dream Warriors" concept. The kids are easily defeated and the Doctor is the one who defeats Freddy with the holy water. You could leave out the Nun character and Dr. Neil Gordon and it would be a much better film.
The Nightmare movies were great, but imagine how much greater they could've been if Bob Shaye wasn't such a greedy, penny pinching tyrant? Every time I see a documentary about a Nightmare film, the complaints are always the same: New Line kept the budget to a bare minimum and Bob Shaye was constantly lurking on the set. In the end, every movie made a huge profit. Bob Shaye deserved to lose New Line to a bunch of other greedy Hollywood phonies. Karma's a bitch.
By the third movie, he was a cult hero. I knew he was a child killer, the connotations as a child just didn't register. I was kicked out of school on a casual day for wearing my "Wanna suck face" t-shirt from the fourth movie. Will Smith with his Freddy song. Weekends spent building metal versions of the glove, good times. Ah the 80's. I even bought ex-rental betamax versions (After we switched to VHS), just to have copies of the first three movies. twitter.com/Aearonjer/status/1190054411713699840/photo/1
I haven't seen this film for years. My brother got it for me on VHS for my birthday. I asked him to get me Brazil but he wanted to watch this nonsense, so he bought it instead. I should've realised then that he would always be a sh•t.
There are so many illigical scenes that make no sense. 1. The girl killed by freddie by smashi her head into the tv. Its ruled a suicide. When the police show up, why dont they question how she died? Shes 4 feet off the floor. How did she manage to kill jump up into the air 4 feet off the floor and smash her head in the tv to hold her in place. Thats a problem. Every single kill outside of Kristiins suicide attempt makes no logical sense. The movie doesnt follow its own rules. Freddie hunts abd kills children in the dream State. Die in the dream, die in real life. They dont follow this set of rules.
I can never understand people who write a movie off just cause some dildo either spoil things or tell the ending. Most of the time its completely different seeing how its done in the context of the movie then hearing it from a 2nd or 3rd source.
this One Oliver if you know the Cinema Snob did a Hilarious review on this! this was 1987?! Damn 32 years Man i can't believe over 3something years ago my how time goes by! And Patricia Arquette is a former Shell of herself how old was she at this time??! Helen Legancamp Love Nancy a lot!!! anyways great Commentary!! this is Classic!! Damn Freddy did kill these kids in Weird warriors!

I loved it when I saw Dokken play Dream Warriors live some 15 years ago. Love this film.

Favorite of the series. Just the right amount of scare and funny.

My introduction to The Nightmare on Elm Street series and one of my favorite horror movies of all time. Great choice!

Fascinating and I agree, it would have made an impact to see Frerdy torment a 10 year old kid.

14:32 I thought Elm Street 1984 was set in 1981 and this was set in 1987. which makes more sense.
The best Nightmare on Elm Street film, hands down!
I love 1,3 & 7 for some reason I have a soft spot for Part 2. It’s a movie but I can’t stop watching it 😂 yes I am straight btw hahahaha
She says Joey was a "debater" in high school before he went mute.
Now he's just a mass debater 😂
Happy 100th bday to Priscilla Pointer - May 18th. She plays Dr Simms.
For sync purposes, where you watching the PAL DVD (25fps, 92 minutes 32 seconds) or the Blu-ray (24fps, 96 mins 31 seconds)?
Both, I'm pretty sure 👌
I love 1, 3, 7
Congrats! You actually have taste and observational skills! (not sarcasm)

00:21 - What's with the sarcasm? Elm Street 2 *is* brilliant!
HAPPY HALLOWE'EN!!

U guys should check out the original script for this movie. It's a lot darker take on the film.

Any opinion of the loudness war affecting movies? I wear earplugs during the previews these days....
