After only a billion years, we dip back into the more obscure VHS tapes from my late Uncle Derek. This time: Dollman and Shogun Fighting Tiger!
Dollman is fairly well known - a Full Moon production featuring an alien cop with the most powerful gun in the universe! And he's ended up on Earth, where he's only 13 inches tall and everything is much cheaper to film than if they'd stayed on the alien planet!
Shogun Fighting Tiger is an unknown ninja film. Totally unknown in fact, as it doesn't exist! They just slapped a fake name, some ninja pics and a totally bogus synopsis on the tape box. It's actually a Taiwanese martial arts thriller called Tiger Fighting (AKA Magnum Killers) and it's a complete mess!

@5:02 "This future city that sort of looks like Logan's Run". Those are actually repurposed special effects shots from Buck Rogers. They just darkened them up a little. Apparently Glen Larson loved to sell fx footage from his shows for extra cash. Another example is all the space battles in Space Mutiny that came from Battlestar Galactica.
I knew those shots looks familiar.
Battlestar Galactica space battles got around back in a day.
Apparently he used to resell his scripts too as some of the Rockford Files were redone for other shows.
Luckily this cult classic "Dollman" is readily available these days. You can buy it directly from the people who made it. It includes 2 more films for no additional cost. What a deal!

Y'all mentioning a cool poster: from what I've heard, a lot of Full Moon films started as posters and the owner of the company would just give a direction a poster and be like 'here's your movie. Do somethin' with that. Here's 30 grand to do it.' So it makes sense the poster is the best part: they're typically the first thing made for a lot of the films :D
You know I wonder if Fighting Tigers was one of those movies made from episodes stitched together from an episodic TV show.

There were Ninjas throughout that movie, Stuart! Thing is, they were doing their jobs as stealth warriors and remained hidden all the time... :-)
Throughout the entire movie there were dancing ninjas on the edge of the screen that tied the entire plot together. They just got cropped out on the VHS

Dollman seems like they came up with the movie poster first, then tried to work backwards from there, but quickly ran out of budget (probably spent mostly on said poster)
This actually sounds logical, when you think about it this logic of movie making works for most of these crappy (awesome) 80's-90's movies. Just look at their posters/cover art, many of them are brillant (brillant in a crappy way but still brillant) The entire thing of judging the movie by its cover was the way to market these classics.

Oh man, I SO hoped that Stuart would have watched Riki-Oh, that movie is fucking INSANE, and really good, too.
He definitely has watched it - he described Jaka Sembung as having "near Story of Ricky level superpowers" - but that does unfortunately mean we probably won't get a discussion of it.

I really like the format of this video. The Uncle Derek (and shit films in general) content is some of my favourite of yours too.
I think with the right budget and technology Dollman would probably look like Honey I Shrunk The Kids.
Omni Productions dubbed a lot of those martial arts films. They also did the notorious dub of Transformers: Headmasters.
If there were ninjas in the second movie, how would you know? If they were any good they'd be undetectable!
The pistol appears to be an AMT Automag, which was also used by (wait for it) Clint Eastwood in Sudden Impact.

Charles Bands company is responsible for half of the "movies" that Rifftrax and MST3K have done.
Full moon and Charles Band productions were last of the generation of B role. I am proud to have been at the center of these films. I was in an art High School when I was given an assignment to make a poster for Trolls ….Epic classic mystery science theater stuff

Please make more of these with the VHS reviews! It was genuinely interesting. I've developed a fascination with this era of the VHS movie over the years. I wasn't about for it, and there's a charm I completely missed out on

I've seen this, and the crossover with Demonic Toys. My Dad used to rent movies all the time, I've seen a lot of weird stuff like this.
The VHS box in the middle of the still shot looks like it says "FECES" on first glance. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's probably not far off from the truth.

I read the title as space cop and got excited.
A good Full Moon movie: Netherworld. Quite genuinely creepy in places, very atmospheric and it has an excellent soundtrack.
Also I love the Subspecies franchise. Yes they're dumb and silly but they have a few awesome moments

I vaguely remember "Dollman". I think I've only seen bits of it when "The Sci-Fi Channel" was airing "Full Moon" movies, I think the one I fondly remember more was "Dollman vs. Demonic Toys". As for the other movie...almost sounds like a movie Godfrey Ho would make, only not exciting nor truly "so bad its good".
