For those of you who can't get the sketch to constrain to a point on a different sketch, you can go to preferences and turn on General->Design->Auto project edges on reference. This will allow you to snap the sketch points even when the drawing is on another sketch

Excellent beginner tutorial, I have zero CAD experience but very eager to to learn. Just bought a 3D Printer and would like to make some designs for it. I tried just jumping in to Fusion 360 and found things very difficult to do. At first I thought it was just not using common sense. But now I know it was my limited knowledge. This tutorial gave me some basic fundamentals on starting to 3D model, thank you

Hi Aaron, after buying a 3D printer I got interested in Fusion 360 to make designs I can print out. I found it amazing what this program can do and my first impression was " I will never be able to learn to work with this complicated program." But thanks to guys like you making this tutorials I slowly start to learn it. A lot of text but what i just want to say is: Thank you Aaron.

Great tutorial, Aaron- almost perfect. Almost: your use of gesture inputs without acknowledgement requires this student to first 1) recognize that an input was made- not always evident, as your use of them is fluid, reflexive, and very, very fast- then 2) slow down the playback to identify the nature of the input. Appreciating basic fluency gaps (chasms!) between expert and student is a primary challenge for instructors of all sorts. Keep up the good work. Much thanks!

I've seen this said before, but it's worth saying again..... as a long time SolidWorks user, this was incredible to watch! It's a radically different mindset for approaching assemblies (one that will probably take a while to unlearn) but worth it! Watching you import McMaster parts and watching you "enable contact sets" was like watching Steve Jobs unveil the pinch-to-zoom feature. Freaking outstanding.
    Thank you!!

Same as Rick, for better or worse, have used ProE/CREO most, definitely helpful. The idea that there are no separate part/assembly files will likely take some time for me to really wrap my head around :-0 - though it looks like F360 has some really great features.

You have HSMWorks, simulation, rendering, sheet metal, a modern intuitive interface that isn't dragged down by elderly users who if you change the color of a button throw a fit. They are basically dragging and dropping all of the features from their best software into fusion 360 and offering it for a reasonable price. Both Autodesk and Dassault are ripping off their customers with yearly subscription fees. They found a hole in the market that they helped create. The only thing they don't have that I want now is frame building/weldment functionality which I use on a daily basis at work.
You're considering the equivalent through SolidWorks? 7 grand lump sum and that's with their 10% MAY discount. Just got a pricing invoice yesterday.
Solid works isn't currently replaceable by Fusion 360 in my field of work but they're getting close.

    • @bkpickell

in my opinion the joint command in Fusion is a lot easier to use than the mate command in solidworks. I have spent hours trying to get the mate command to work, where in Fusion it always works.

wow!! I have been toying with hexagon for 2 years now and tinkered with Blender. This offers so much more than Hexagon and is so much easier than Blender. I have been a fabricator most of my life..welding and machine shops. I have drawn prints by hand the old fashioned way lol. this just so incredible!! I can now design and translate it into G-Code!!. I have played with it now for maybe 1/2 an hour and starting to understand it. knowing a couple other 3d modeling programs helps lol. But this makes it so much easier and cant believe the things it can do!! I am now 53 years old and it was getting tough doing the physical parts of these jobs..Now with a little practice I will be designing. Nobody uses drawing tables anymore..I am excited!!

The BEST explanation I've seen yet. I tried watching Fusion 360 videos, but there are 21 chapter/videos and I got bogged down on Chapter 10 or something hearing about user Preferences. I need to combine Fusion 360 with a CFD software in order to optimize the original CAD design.
Can Fusion 360 handle geometry variation in a batch mode? For instance, if I design a basic geometry and want to optimize it according to certain CFD-imposed criteria, would Fusion 360 be able to keep generating-updating the geometry (produce new STL's) until I reach my optimization goal?

Hi there.A great tutorial. really helpful, and not rushed or too technical. Thanks.
I do have some issues (I'm using the latest version of the software as of this date, running win10).
When I get up to the adding pins to the assembly, I have two issues:
    1) when I create a new component, via create in the assembly (@42:20min), the dialogue shows up. However, as soon as I select the top of the tree (After deselecting the existing component, to be sure), the new component is added straight away, without confirmation, as soon as I make the selection. I'm aware that I can rename it later, yet very annoying.
    2) More frustrating is the fact at in adding the cylinder (@42:20min), I am unable to properly select the existing features to reference. I can kind of do so, yet the faces are not viewed as selectable, and I just have to guess at the centre of where I want the pin to go. It does seem to find the centre and reference the diameter of the hole. Once it is created, it is 'correct', yet there is no interaction possible. Opacity is set to 70% for the existing components, and the other sketches are set as being visible at all levels in the 'saddle' sub-tree.
I can't find any settings in preferences that would effect such operational interaction.
3)Finally, the modelling tool dialogue (accessible using the 'S' shortcut) only has the extrude and fillet shortcut icons. How do I add more options?
    Kind regards
    M

You are an excellent teacher. Don't forget if someone has a short attention span, use the PLAYBACK speed option in TH-cam. It ends up sounding like how Ben Shapiro talks. Saves my ADD butt every time.

Thank you very much for all your videos. I'm trying to download your model from the link you put in the description but with no success. when i click ''charge'' and choose an option for the file (say fusion360 or STL) i only receive a link to a txt or DMS file. Can you explain to me what i need to do with those files to get your model ? Or what i'm doing wrong ?

      Autodesk Fusion 360
Actually now that you mention it I do have a question. Is it possible to mirror a component and have the mirrored resultant component reflect subsequent changes to the original component. In other words, I want to have a left and right hand version of a component and be able to modify one and have the other update automatically. I’m assuming this is possible but I can’t seem to figure out how to do it.

Thanks for the tuto. Seems to be an error when opening McMaster-carr plug-in. By going directly to the website happens the same: it just doesn't load.
Is it happening the same to you guys?
    Thanks!

Excellent webinar. I have been training with AutoCAD Lt and AutoCAD and recently became certified in AutoCAD. I have a client that wants to connect his CNC to Fusion 360 and has asked me to assist. This tutorial is 6 yrs old and not all the commands were as easily to follow along with. I was able to until he copied and pasted the pin, ctrl c and ctrl v didn't seem to work. Is this operator error or a change in the program? Secondly I've never worked with a cloud based platform, so is the gallery available to everyone? (for the top clamp and bolt and wingnut specifically). Is there a similar webinar that I can pull up for the current program? Thank you for your assistance.

Happy to hear people are still liking it! The UI is a little dated, but as long as it helps....we're gonna keep it!
