Dear Josh please please do a video about Bernie Ecclestone history in F1. I know it might give you an aneurysm but I'm willing to risk it 🤣hahaha. Awesome video as always, keep them coming.
It still blows my mind that there's a track in the middle of the country that has more history than any other track in the world, already has experience hosting F1, is comparatively cheap and accessible to most American fans, and even had its one problematic section fixed in the meanwhile - it's called Indianapolis.
I mean, the video does cover the FP1 teething troubles, so this isn't really an irony situation - feels more like a 'Josh very wisely prepped most a Vegas history reel, in anticipation of 2023 becoming a farce he could plug a final script into the moment it started going obviously wrong' situation.
Gotta look at the big picture, NASCAR’s first Street Race started out as a disaster of a weekend. But ended up being one of the best this year. We can only hope for the same for this weekend.
It makes the rest of us look bad. The Euros hate us enough as it is. This makes them think that they are right, that we are all tacky buffoons solely focused on celebrity and decadence.
Ooh Josh, we know you made this video before the Las Vegas shit-show really unraveled - can't wait for your next video about this.. -, but even so you are spot on as always. Thank you.
Pirelli Hot Laps is happening in between sessions that might help lay down some rubber. There’s 30 cars doing 7 laps each day. However, yesterday it was cancelled for the drainage repairs.
I happen to live in the largest concentration of people in the United States in one time zone. The East Coast time zone. Cities like New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Boston, and so on and so on. The race starts at 1 AM. There’s no way in hell I’m gonna stay up for it.
It's ridiculous that they're running the race when they are. 6am GMT for me on Sunday. Won't bother watching as I'll be asleep. Why they didn't run it like COTA or mexico so it's daytime for the locals and evening for Europe is beyond me
the nutty thing is, Indycar and NASCAR have been racing on WAAAAY more temporary road tracks in the middle of US cities for decades... but F1 decided to take 0 notes from them.\ Also, most US fans have never had to fork out more than $100 for a full day of pro racing, especially for a race on public roads.
To be fair to Toto he was saying that manhole covers (and in many cases drain covers) at much more established tracks have come up before and people haven't kicked off nearly as much and he was backing the work of the people that have made the event happen like local crew etc. I'm somewhere in between Fred and Toto in that I support the local crew and everything that's been done to make it happen, but it's pretty bad to see the damage caused to Sainz's car and the resulting pentalty he's received for changing parts due to this damage. Also the prices are crazy for this weekend, lets hope something is done to make changes for the better next year. Let's all hope for a good qualy and race!
Sure it's happened before but think about how many sessions those tracks have had over the years and this one happened in the first 8 minutes of the first session. The last one I vividly remember was 2017 malaysia and that only happened at the end of FP2 back when those sessions were 90 minutes. The fact that these covers weren't properly checked to be sealed properly is an absolute joke and Toto is so far up Vegas' arse I'm surprised he was able to speak so clearly
It destroyed the battery and broke his seat…. Amongst other damage. This could have resulted I serious injury to a driver…. Because some assclown can’t weld a drain lid? This whole race is bullshit. Stupid place, stupid time. No venue should get a race if if can’t run support races. Simple. Red Bull should just put Danny the RB and get Lawson back in the AT, and Max can go have a holiday somewhere…. It’s not like anyone paying to go gives a shit about the racing anyway….
Honestly, as an Aussie, I want a New Zealand GP. The Kiwis are producing some world class drivers so lets give them a world class race event to showcase some of them in the support races instead of 3rd USA GP
I honestly thought that the Vegas track looked like a kid's rendition of a cruise ship (and its still valid). But, that spider pig reference is just gold from the 1st time I heard it.
I fully agree that Toto's rant was absolutely ridiculous. A manhole popping up is a serious problem, and a major oversight. It's lucky it only destroyed the car. Toto was so out of touch with his rant, and sounds like such a shill the way he lauds this track as something which will change F1 forever and which is pushing boundaries. Like no, it isn't, street tracks have existed for over a century and Singapore pioneered the F1 night race. This track brings nothing new to the table other than extortionate prices, pissing off locals and turning drivers into circus animals. It's a step backwards.
I did not know that the race was held this late in the year, so when I found out, I was confused because Las Vegas evenings are warm in the summer, not the fall/winter. The temperature concerns could've been avoided if it was settled sooner in the season instead but it doesn't look like they thought about it
I still can’t get over them not understanding that Vegas gets cold at night! Raced in the SKUSA supernats and we ran a few heats at night. It was bitterly cold and one heat got blasted with sleet! It was wild.
10 minutes of fp1 running because they couldn’t sort out a drain cover. Then forcing all the grandstand fans to leave and not even have the ability to stay up to see the extended fp2 session also not giving them a refund at all is an absolute fucking joke
I can't stand Toto, but he asked a good question in the press conferences last night. "When's the last time you made content that wasn't negative?" Starting to notice a trend here.
i live in vegas, so we were walking through and around casinos to just be immersed in it, cus we couldn’t afford tickets. we were excited once fp1 started, but then my day felt ruined. it was my first time seeing f1 cars in the flesh, but ultimately it one of the worst days i’ve ever experienced. i have so much hate for liberty media
It's not just Liberty. Most of F1, including the Euros like Toto want every second of this farce. They are making a shitload of money off of this shit show. As Josh pointed out, despite what he may say today, this is Ecclestone's wet dream.
@aimanazrie8944 P2 and just 2 seconds off Verstappen is good! Not to mention, Leclerc would've won if Sainz hadn't gotten the penalty because Sainz would've been forced off-track by Verstappen at the first turn instead of Leclerc. Verstappen doesn't get clear air, comes out further down after his stop, and has to clear another car before Perez.
I feel like 500.000.000 would buy you a sizeable plot of land on the edge of the city. With plenty of money left over to build an amazing track. Instead we get this
I live around 5 hours north of Vegas and have been a fan of F1 since 2018 that hasn’t been to a Grand Prix. When me and my dad found out about the Vegas race, we got super excited that there was finally a race within driving distance, only for it to cost more to go there than to fly to somewhere like Austin and go to the race there. I hope they figure out a way to lower prices because there are plenty faithful F1 fans waiting to go to a race that don’t have 3,000 dollars to attend a full race weekend.
Yeah they say this is about appealing to the American market, but which Americans, exactly? Because the ones who care about racing don't seem to be the ones catered to here. This seems focused on spectacle and style more than racing, not to mention the atrocious ticket prices and start time for the GP.
And it’s not going to pick up traction on American TV or streaming because at the race start the MST,CST, and EST timezones will all be in the dead sleep hours. Waste of money for F1. Sham of a sport.
That’s fair though. It’s just a name, and could potentially upset the locals who were shot at by that guy called Paddock. It’s the only thing the FIA actually did well in Vegas.

I attended the race. I was gifted tickets as an early Christmas present. FP1 was a disaster, Sainz's Penalty was beyond absurd, and the whole, "logistical," nightmare that was kicking people out before FP2 was a shitshow. Other than the first part of the event, it kicked into high gear. FP3 had some great competition and the whole of qualifying and the actual race had me and my dad on the edge of our seats. We had a great time and the race had some incredible action and competitiveness. If they can fix their problems like spectator entry and navigating to the hotels, it would be a spectacular event. I hope for the best for this venue
I remember when Baku came onto the calendar and people thought that race was a disaster and the first year was really dull. But then in 2017 it produced one of the great races. So we haven't the slightest cluse what will happen come Sunday.
As someone comfortably sitting at home, I'm still quite excited for this race tbh. I'm really hoping that the low temps and fresh tarmac will make for an interesting race. I couldn't care much less about everything around the race itself, aside from the FP2 thing being weird and that they really should've allowed the locals to watch from those bridges etc. That would've been free positive PR.
For those who are wondering if all street circuits cause major disruptions... the one in Singapore doesnt really affect day to day traffic till the week off the race. So what the las vegas residents had to endure was pretty shit.
So this video aged like milk, the race was fun, there was no rain, no red flags, no problems with grip. Yeah it sucked for Sainz but that's a rules problem, not a track problem. Every other street cirquit has had issues with manhole covers coming loose so you'd think they would know about this but yeah...
I bought 2 tickets to sports car weekend at Road America for me and my father. All in (Gas, tickets, food) was less than a 3rd of the cost for a single general admission ticket at Vegas.
I’m so glad that just days after, it was proved that jumping on the fashionable “this race sucks, the track sucks, F1 sucks, blah blah blah” bandwagon proved to be what it normally is… fashionable but not USUALLY right. That’s also accounting for the wildly over critical reaction to first-race teething issues that certainly weren’t minor, but not uncommon across the history of F1. I love JR’s content but this video felt like just another person on the bandwagon trying to maintain the narrative.
Remember that Josh told us that he started this video a week before the actual event and although he added a few bits prior to finishing it this was about Previous GPs in Las Vegas and should be viewed in that context
As a former Las Vegas residenr and a person who grew up there.... these race times are absolutely normal. Las Vegas is so used to the nightlife/heat controlling the city that things are open very late and a lot of events run at night. Electric Daisy Carnival is from 21.00 - 0.600, just as an example.
teething problems are when the camera placement isn't quite right or there are audio glitches... at a race, the track should not be part of the glitches... but that could just be me and or an unrealistic approach to the world premiere single-seater racing series.
I don't think I've ever visited a sadder place than Vegas. I went in with mild expectations of just having a good time and it being lively and fun, abeit a bit stupid and corny. Oh no. Some of the saddest, lonliest people I've ever seen, casino floors full of desperately tired, solemn losers who you can literally watch flush their homes down the toilet. Streets full of homeless people outside the bejewelled palaces attended by a stream of uber luxury cars and just about everyone in a perpetual state of drunkedness. Truly one of the most depressing vistas of humanity you could hope to witness. There is no amount of money you could pay me to attend this weekend.
5:05 As someone who managed a restaurant in the U.S. for 5 years, I can tell you this. If I had to pay the waitstaff regular minimum wage, most of our customers wouldn't be able to afford to eat there.

@@samueljayachandran2849Laguna Seca isn’t and could never be Grade 1 certified for F1. Primarily, it’s too narrow in places. (And bloody dangerous in the case of the corkscrew.)
@greatsageclok-roo9013 yeah but even if they absolutely HAD to have it in Vegas they could've easily used the Nascar track that's right around the corner, it has a roadcourse/roval layout, plus it already has all the amenities. If F1 really wants to capture the American racing fan, there is no better place than a Nascar track.
@@I_Hate_TH-cam_Handles The problem is that last time they used a famous NASCAR roval...
Well, we all know *that* story.
I suspect F1/FIA are hesitant because of which.
It's hilariously ironic how this race has become a microcosm of F1 and the world at large
Judging by the news after the FP1 and the current situation, I wouldn't be too surprised with another fiasco.
I'm just saying, Kyalami doesn't have mario-kart traps which will take out engines and potentially drivers too🤷🏻♂️
Maybe so but it's owned by a country openly backing a degenerate dictator and as a South African who drives past kyalami regularly even I don't want f1 near there just because I feel my countries leaders don't deserve more money they'll just steal and use on themselves and their dictator friends instead of the country
The random pit traps are what makes it entertaining! /s
Unfortunately, they also don't have a national infrastructure that could support a race, and soon they might not have a functional country capable of hosting a race...
@gchampi2 that's a way of saying they don't want f1 in Africa
The purple pit lane entrance line nobody can see is one of those headscratchers that makes you wonder what some people were thinking.
I am convinced that, since it is a really long lap, the difference in pace among teams will be in seconds.
Especially considering most of it is pure straights 💀
Dear Josh please please do a video about Bernie Ecclestone history in F1. I know it might give you an aneurysm but I'm willing to risk it 🤣hahaha. Awesome video as always, keep them coming.
You know things have gone bad when NASCAR can put up a street race for the first time IN ITS HISTORY and can outclass F1
Is that the one where a random Kiwi turned up and won? :D
@@nizm0man perhapsibly
It still blows my mind that there's a track in the middle of the country that has more history than any other track in the world, already has experience hosting F1, is comparatively cheap and accessible to most American fans, and even had its one problematic section fixed in the meanwhile - it's called Indianapolis.
Roger Penske owns Indy. IndyCar and F1 mix like oil and water.
I don’t see Formula 1 ever returning there sadly.
Ironic after the fp1 teething troubles
The curse of Revell proves to be true again.
Even as an American, I can’t defend this buffoonery. Thank you for always uploading quality content btw Josh !
It makes the rest of us look bad. The Euros hate us enough as it is. This makes them think that they are right, that we are all tacky buffoons solely focused on celebrity and decadence.
As an Australian, I found the LVGP to be PERFECTLY TIMED! Hell it's probably better timed than our own GP.
99% show 1% racing, liberty deserves this when we have so many good circuits being ignored.
Ooh Josh, we know you made this video before the Las Vegas shit-show really unraveled - can't wait for your next video about this.. -, but even so you are spot on as always. Thank you.
Love that @rocketpoweredmohawk gave you the shout out! You are one of my favs too!
Meanwhile they competing with pac 12 after dark college football
exactly. i can barely stay awake for the race when its a 9:00a.m. EST start. good luck getting me to do a 1AM race start f1
It's ridiculous that they're running the race when they are. 6am GMT for me on Sunday. Won't bother watching as I'll be asleep. Why they didn't run it like COTA or mexico so it's daytime for the locals and evening for Europe is beyond me
for most of europe its 7 am sunday, id rather watch it 1am
I just wanna say. The Macau GP is also happening this week and every category is streamed for free on YT..
great vid, Josh! The best F1 TH-camr out there, in no way am I biased being a kiwi.
The concept of making a video bashing a race weekend before the race has even happened is a bit silly to me.
the nutty thing is, Indycar and NASCAR have been racing on WAAAAY more temporary road tracks in the middle of US cities for decades... but F1 decided to take 0 notes from them.\
Also, most US fans have never had to fork out more than $100 for a full day of pro racing, especially for a race on public roads.
Was actually an excellent race lol
For F1, in their social media canon, FP1 did not happen and nothing bad happened on it.
A real fan right here. Not just another asshole bitching, moaning, and complaining.
Thanks again for the content Josh. Keep giving ‘em the taste of Kiwi!
Gotta, ask what’s your outro music? I like the vibe.
All a real shitshow until the actual race came on - it was the most awesome race Ive seen in a very long time
I honestly thought that the Vegas track looked like a kid's rendition of a cruise ship (and its still valid). But, that spider pig reference is just gold from the 1st time I heard it.
I went to sleep at 11pm woke up at 6am to have seen that 2nd practice had JUST finished, their schedule is insane
This content is great! Awesome work 👏
How do you make such a high quality video so fast?!
Nice!
Oh no, it was a really good race despite all the problems.
And only 3 DNFs compared to 6 in Brazil; 5 in Mexico; 5 in Japan and 4 in Singapore.
Guys like him wanted failure, and now they got shame.
Very well made video
Enjoyed your voice over as well
Nice to see you calling out that hypocrite Toto
It was an amazing race!!!!!!
I did not know that the race was held this late in the year, so when I found out, I was confused because Las Vegas evenings are warm in the summer, not the fall/winter. The temperature concerns could've been avoided if it was settled sooner in the season instead but it doesn't look like they thought about it
thought to myself today, wonder how long it will take for Josh to make a vid about this. I just didnt expect same day delivery xD pure class
Nostradamus again!!
It ended up being a decent race which is hilarious considering everyone downed played it 😂
Wonder if Toto would think differently if it was Hamilton that hit the cover and not Sainz.
That's not even a question.
Kudos, GREAT JOB!
i live in vegas, so we were walking through and around casinos to just be immersed in it, cus we couldn’t afford tickets. we were excited once fp1 started, but then my day felt ruined. it was my first time seeing f1 cars in the flesh, but ultimately it one of the worst days i’ve ever experienced. i have so much hate for liberty media
It's not just Liberty. Most of F1, including the Euros like Toto want every second of this farce. They are making a shitload of money off of this shit show. As Josh pointed out, despite what he may say today, this is Ecclestone's wet dream.
Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! That tire warmup speed is really gonna come in handy here. Second win of the season, p2 in constructors, here we come!
Never been so early to a Josh Revell video until now, it feels weird.
I know, right
Yeah
I feel like 500.000.000 would buy you a sizeable plot of land on the edge of the city. With plenty of money left over to build an amazing track. Instead we get this
or use LVMS
My main thought about this race is legitimately "holy shit i hope nobody dies". That's not an aspiration I should be having.
This will be a fun race. Can't wait.
I feel like the las vegas gp could be it’s own episode for drive to survive
Let's also not forget the paddock is not being called a paddock it's just being called a pit building for this race
That makes sense though. You don't want a reminder of the Las Vegas shooting easily brought up.
That’s fair though. It’s just a name, and could potentially upset the locals who were shot at by that guy called Paddock. It’s the only thing the FIA actually did well in Vegas.
@@MythicalDust it's about the only thing I can praise the FIA for. My boss hates it for that reason though as he said it brings more attention to his name then
@@TheA53fordwell it reminds me of when you cant say car or peach in Albania because they refer to both the male and female genitalia respectively. So, just for this occasion, ill let it pass.
@@nicklowe1815 that's what I'm doing. Also didn't know that fact so that's something new to know, thank you
I can't believe your video was outdated the second you uploaded it.
Gonna need a part 2 mate.
GP that could substitute the 3rd united states race:
Buenos Aires GP
South Africa GP
Turkish GP
Germany GP
Even Indianapolis
Replace miami with germany and Las Vegas with Malaysia
I'd like to add the Portugal, French, Malaysia, Mugello, and Nurburgring GPs into that hat too.
Great vid again, Keep it up!
Never in my life has a video hyped me up more for Strolls maiden win than this one :D
As an American in the Midwest, the fact that the race is being aired at 3 am, the absolutely ridiculous cost to go to it, and all of the shit that has gone wrong so far- screw this race. I hope it fails and never happens again. What an absolute shitshow
I dont think the fans at Baku got kicked out after certain time period
As someone comfortably sitting at home, I'm still quite excited for this race tbh. I'm really hoping that the low temps and fresh tarmac will make for an interesting race.
I couldn't care much less about everything around the race itself, aside from the FP2 thing being weird and that they really should've allowed the locals to watch from those bridges etc. That would've been free positive PR.
For those who are wondering if all street circuits cause major disruptions... the one in Singapore doesnt really affect day to day traffic till the week off the race. So what the las vegas residents had to endure was pretty shit.
the BIGGEST SPORTING EVENT in the PLANET will always be the FIFA FOOTBALL WORLD CUP ...
So this video aged like milk, the race was fun, there was no rain, no red flags, no problems with grip. Yeah it sucked for Sainz but that's a rules problem, not a track problem. Every other street cirquit has had issues with manhole covers coming loose so you'd think they would know about this but yeah...
To think you can actually watch the Grand Prix Weekend through CCTV cameras for free is the cherry on the top
Even Caesars Palace would’ve been better at this rate
Yeah, if you’re racing Superkarts. Hell, even regular sprint and shifter karts would be a better fit for that track than F1.
From today onwards, the Caesars palace races will be forever be referred to , misty-eyed, as … “the Golden Age of Las Vegas Grand Prix racing”..
I bought 2 tickets to sports car weekend at Road America for me and my father. All in (Gas, tickets, food) was less than a 3rd of the cost for a single general admission ticket at Vegas.
This track layout remembers me of the Tokyo r246 from gran turismo with a few parts changed, idk what to expect about it
Boy did this video and all the negative comments not age well. Josh, just admit you were wrong.
He just tells it like it is but in the end it’s just one man’s opinion
he will block you instead and call you manus
Qualifying has delivered all year but it MUST deliver tonight.
surprised you didn't mention how that loose manhole cover gave Sainz a 10 grid penalty as well. Classic FIA moment
I think he recorded this video before the weekend started
Recorded before the session. I dont think he have time to add it
As a former Las Vegas residenr and a person who grew up there.... these race times are absolutely normal.
Sitting there watching this shit show last night and thinking can't wait for Josh's video about this and here it is ❤
I don't think I've ever visited a sadder place than Vegas.
We have this instead of a German GP...
5:05 As someone who managed a restaurant in the U.S. for 5 years, I can tell you this. If I had to pay the waitstaff regular minimum wage, most of our customers wouldn't be able to afford to eat there.
Just shows that there are a lot of things wrong in that 3rd world country they call usa.
A race inside the Las Vegas Motor Speedway oval would have been better than the track they have now.
I've mentioned that in the comments of other videos. I don't know why but it seems like some people are almost personally offended by the suggestion.
Honestly the Race was a lot better than I thought it would be. One look at the circuit and I thought it would be a snooze fest with the right walls but I was pleasantly surprised.
