Scott Speed is fairly famous here in the states, but not for his Formula 1 career. He competed in 118 NASCAR races from 2008 to 2013, where he only managed one top 5 and four top 10s. Keep in mind that he spent 76 of those races from 2008-2010 with the Red Bull Racing team, which was by no means a top tier NASCAR team, but was relatively competitive and was able to garner a handful of wins in their short lifespan from 2007-2011. His one top 5 came at Richmond International Raceway in 2009, where he magically got a runner-up finish. From 2012-2013, he'd run 29 races with Leavine Family Racing and a couple other backmarker teams. In that timespan, his only statistic was a singular top 10 at Talladega in 2013. While he did find some success in NASCAR's lower series, including 4 wins in the ARCA Menards series and one win in the Gander Outdoors truck series, he was most known for being the worst driver on Red Bull's NASCAR team who had no trouble finding his way to the outside wall.
I remember in Barcelona 1998, Rosset had a run in with Giancarlo Fisichella. Martin Brundle commented on his in that as well, "well Rosset getting in the way and Fisichella is saying to him, 'why didn't you move out of my way?' But what Fisichella doesn't realise is that Rosset was on a qualifying lap of his own and that has spoiled both their laps,"

True! There isn't a single driver on the grid that is more than a second slower than Max or Lewis. I'm not sure how much Mazepin would lose to them by but it wouldn't be 2 seconds.
There's a term in Horse Racing that can answer the last point about Rosset and Jan Magnussen, it's called collateral form. On the face of it, Magnussen's results look extraordinary until you realise the field he was competing against in that generation simply wasnt up to much. Many drivers have suffered this, Stoffel Vandoorne looked the world in GP2, until you realise the field he was competing against was fairly average. Leclerc, Norris, Russell, Albon all competed against the same F2 field more or less in back to back years and walked it, but we know how good they are because the field in those years was a very good marker.
Zonta was also touted very highly before he joined F1, and there was even competition who would get to sign him, but never really got anywhere at the F1 level.
In his defense he got one real season (2000) as 99 was a joke. He had some really solid performances, Q in Austria for example. And then just faded away. Not overly sure why given he was teaming with a world champion (even if JV is one of the more disrespected champs) and supposedly provided excellent data for the development of BAR. A bit of a missed gem perhaps.

I like it! Could we have a video for my favourite all time backmarker, Ukyo Katayama? A genuinely good bloke who never really caught a break in the sport outwith the likes of Minardi.
A real conversation about Rossett: Murray Walker: Now, a lot of people have been questioning if Rossett is an F1 worthy talent. Martin Brundle: That's not really that much of a question.
The most important question is: Do you play the F1 2020 My Team Mode with Lord Mahaveer as your 2nd driver and can we expect a highlights video of him finishing last in every race? :>
Rosset - I remember many people considered Tora "Tiger" Takagi to be a driving god because of how he compared to his barely ever qualifying team mate. Because for Rosset to be doing what he was doing then Toranosuke must have been rapid...I have no idea what he's doing these days.
So I can provide at least some of an answer to how he did so well in F3000. 95 was the last year that F3000 remained an open chassis series and Super Nova made their own car, it was faster than Forti and Pacifics F1 cars and considerably faster than anything the other teams had. The series went completely spec the following year.
You should do a vid on Luca Badoer. A promising junior career but a faltered F1 career. At least his son Brando Badoer is delivering the goods in karting.
17:09 Martin Brundle's most James Hunt commentary moment. Murray was so taken aback and awkwardly replied with "...end of message, and three mi- three minutes to go."
Some quotes from David Tremayne's profile on Ricardo Rosset in his pre-season guide to the 1996 F1 season... "Like Mauricio Gugelmin with Ayrton Senna in the old days, Ricardo Rosset shares a house wit fellow Brazilian racer Rubens Barrichello, so he is well poised for his graduation to the world of F1 with Arrows..." "A thinking driver in the Prost mould, who spends hours pondering set-up..."
As a Brazilian, I only remember when Barrichello said in a interview that Rosseti told him that he, Rosseti, crashed at the Belgium Carnage *PRESSING THE F***ING THROTTLE!!!!!*, a guy that was behind all the scene crashed in a pile of cars *WHILE WITH THE FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL!!!* ... no surprises from someone with his history on F1.
I remember a video by MSTF1 about the 1998 Belgian GP in which Rosset did race. However, he got blurred out by Matt, the host of MSTF1. He never explained why, but now I can understand it a ittle bit.
as far I could see, porsche gt3 cup here in brazil at the time rosset competed in was basically a field of porsche dealership owners, I think only miguel paludo was a full fledge racing driver in the series but then he moved to nascar so rosset took the oportunity to dominate the series
Playing the devil's advocate here: 1) It is very easy to point your fingers at drivers like Rosset or Magnussen (or, for this matter, Vandoorne, Comas or Liuzzi) not taking into account the numerous variables behind the actual performance of a driver, as if F-1 was a level-playing field. What if Rosset was actually telling the truth? Nobody knows, as nobody will never know whether even worse things happened to other drivers, as history is used to be written by the winners. 2) There are some unknown information about his spell. He completed only 30 laps before his debut at Melbourne. His car was reusing spare parts (same happened to JV, by the way). Yet, I admit he was terrible at qualifying sessions. 3) Ken Tyrrell did not want him at any cost. Takagi, on the other hand, had been testing the Tyrrell car since mid-1997. And by the way, Takagi was by no means a "mediocre rookie". He is another guy who will never have a fair judgement on his career. 4) Properly terrible drivers are quite hard to find at this level. Moreover, their alleged lack of quality are more related to lack of values, lack of development or entitled behaviour (a Russian guy from F-2 springs to mind). It is really bad to laugh at the professional guys with some talent who are trying hard to achieve something. 5) No connection with Ricardo (he is definitely no championship material), just some lack of tolerance with people who laugh at drivers who showed talent in fairer series and did not have a good spell at F-1.
Tbf the bit about the team being against him and shit might be true since even Ken Tyrrell didnt want him there, so the mood around him was probably not good from the start (and deteriorating even more with his bad performance)
Shinji Nakano had a similiar problem when he joined Prost. Alain Prost didn't want him but had to use him because of his nationality and the fact they were using Mugen Honda engines, and then promptly ignored him and focused everything on Panis. Shockingly, this had a negative effect on Nakano's season.
What is your problem with Frentzen? He destroyed Hill in the 1999 season and he had the speed and talent for Williams. His only problem was bad luck in the 1997 season.

I like it! Could we have a video for my favourite all time backmarker, Ukyo Katayama? A genuinely good bloke who never really caught a break in the sport outwith the likes of Minardi.
Katayama actually scored 5 points in 1994.
@@Altern8One He was very good that year.
rumours have it that he was ruled out through an injury picked up by going on one of Suzuka's rollercoasters
Brundle is really savage when he doesn't like someone!
Following in the footsteps of James Hunt.
17:17 Thank you, I have been trying and failing to remember when and about whom "it's a fairly short debate, Murray" was said.
A real conversation about Rossett:
Murray Walker: Now, a lot of people have been questioning if Rossett is an F1 worthy talent.
Martin Brundle: That's not really that much of a question.
The correct phrasing is in the video if you watch it
he said 'alot of people are debating whether he is F1 material' to which he replied 'That's a fairly short debate Murray'
Was it at Spa 1998?
@@Altern8One Monaco 1998. It's in the video
@@RobJaskula: OK, I found this out a few minutes later anyway.
The most important question is: Do you play the F1 2020 My Team Mode with Lord Mahaveer as your 2nd driver and can we expect a highlights video of him finishing last in every race? :>
How about Giorgio Pantano? One of the greatest pre F1 drivers who never got the opportunity to show his talent in F1.
Like Davide Valsecci
Rosset - I remember many people considered Tora "Tiger" Takagi to be a driving god because of how he compared to his barely ever qualifying team mate. Because for Rosset to be doing what he was doing then Toranosuke must have been rapid...I have no idea what he's doing these days.
Thanks Josh, I just sprayed pepsi all over my PC with that Takagi clip at 14:02! I was not expecting that! lmao!
Was waiting for this...
Great video josh. Please make a video on the f1 2012 season
Hey Josh, can we expect a Guanyu Zhou video in the future?
I've never had something explained more simply than 'A bar so low to clear, it doesn't even require the effort of jumping'
Sad part is, he qualifies for many f1 races still. Which is something that the majority of us could never do
14:02 The commentary along with the text animation cracked me up!
So I can provide at least some of an answer to how he did so well in F3000. 95 was the last year that F3000 remained an open chassis series and Super Nova made their own car, it was faster than Forti and Pacifics F1 cars and considerably faster than anything the other teams had. The series went completely spec the following year.
"Pollock was a man who boasted about a lot of thing, which ultimately would not eventuate."
So... Craig *ollock then.
"It's a fairly short debate, Murray."
Great video mate, just one thing in Bruno Aguiar the U is silent, nether the less, job well done!
AFC video some day?! 🤔
Sick videos as always hope you continue a bit more regularely .
"Like Mauricio Gugelmin with Ayrton Senna in the old days, Ricardo Rosset shares a house wit fellow Brazilian racer Rubens Barrichello, so he is well poised for his graduation to the world of F1 with Arrows..."
"A thinking driver in the Prost mould, who spends hours pondering set-up..."
I would be interested in seeing one of these videos about Sergey Sirotkin...
The PTM driver at around 2:00 is not Bruno Aguiar, that is actually Pedro Couceiro the other PTM entry that year
do Narain Karthikeyan! seriously, love your videos mate but yeah, I'd love to see you do a video on Karthikeyan :D
I remember a video by MSTF1 about the 1998 Belgian GP in which Rosset did race. However, he got blurred out by Matt, the host of MSTF1. He never explained why, but now I can understand it a ittle bit.
The video we all waited for...
Hearing Murray’s version of being a savage warms my heart
Thanks, Josh. I didn't know about the video of Acelerados with Ricardo Rosset, even though brazilian and subscribed to the channel.
Abraços
Awesome as always. Make a video about another brazilian pay driver, Pedro Diniz. But this guy had a way more successful career. 🇧🇷
as far I could see, porsche gt3 cup here in brazil at the time rosset competed in was basically a field of porsche dealership owners, I think only miguel paludo was a full fledge racing driver in the series but then he moved to nascar so rosset took the oportunity to dominate the series
Playing the devil's advocate here:
1) It is very easy to point your fingers at drivers like Rosset or Magnussen (or, for this matter, Vandoorne, Comas or Liuzzi) not taking into account the numerous variables behind the actual performance of a driver, as if F-1 was a level-playing field.
The driver that you show as "Bruno Aguiar", during the Formula Opel section, it's actually portuguese driver Pedro Couceiro.
He just kind of proves that not all who are good at junior series can make it to F1
I love the beginning though...
"Okay, so, 'Water Erosion' is faster than you... can you confirm you understood that message?" :-) :-) :-)
@Josh Revell As birthday presents go this is rather a good one. Than you Mr.Revell. Thank you.
I'll never not laugh any time you burn Stroll😂😂 it gets me every time mate!!
What is your problem with Frentzen? He destroyed Hill in the 1999 season and he had the speed and talent for Williams. His only problem was bad luck in the 1997 season.
If he's that dangerous with a gutless engine, imagine how it would be with a full-blown F1 engine...
WTF Happened to Narain Karthikeyan
or Takuma Sato
I've been patiently awaiting a new video. Great work as usual
Bruno Aguiar was one of the many Portuguese drivers who failed to reach F1... the story of our nation drivers really
At least you have Tiago Monteiro
19:05 Here is Rosset!
