    I was just graduating High School in 85 and watched this award show live.
    When Lionel introduced Prince I hit record on the VCR. I watched this everyday for 3 years! What a performance!
    He was the baddest Cat ever! He crushes that guitar in the end!!!!!!! Still loving it all these yrs later!!!!!

    I took a bus for an hour to buy this cassette tape when I was 14. It was the first cassette I ever owned. 35 years later and it still sends chills down my spine when I hear this song. RIP Prince -Baby you're a star.💜

    I grew up when prince was on top. At that time I really did not care for him but heard his music. 30-40 years later and I am old now. This guy was a musical genius. This performance beats any video or all other performances. I cry a tear watching this … miss you Prince

    I grew up on Prince. I was in Las Vegas the day he passed away. The sunset was purple that night and I cried like a baby on my hotel balcony blasting this song. Never was hit hard by a famous persons death until that moment. Thank you Prince for all the amazing music and memories.

    Talent with a capital T! Prince was beyond talented, he was iconic.Music was at a different level than it is now, those of us that lived thru it understand. Its hard for anybody in this generation to be comparable to a guy like Prince. This guy was special.

    Prince was the ONE performer from the 80s that not only met expectation in those BIG stage moments but he could absolutely transcend those expectations and just leave the stage in ashes... which is why still it's astonishing for me to hear that some of his music peers don't peg him higher on the list of greatest guitarists.

    I was 10, sitting in the floor of my mom’s living room watching this on the floor model color TV. I was on my feet screaming by the end. There will NEVER be another Prince.

    Back in the day, we couldn't WAIT for the Award Shows to come on. Many of us didnt have cable so we had the basic channels. We watched with huge anticipation of a fantastic show, ESPECIALLY when favs like MJ or Prince was performing. Those were the days when you talked about it the next day at school. I loved when they would accept an award and the crowd was going nuts and someone would yell out, " I love you" to the recipient. Anyway, things have def changed. Performers nowadays want to praise the devil on stage and call it a performance. Smh.

    I haven’t watched this Grammy performance since I was fourteen. I’m now fifty and it gave me as many goosebumps and tears as it did in 1985.
    Those outfits they’re all wearing look fantastic. Just so beautiful to watch and listen to.

    Lived in Minneapolis '79. Even back then, standing on the street in 0-38F temps, waiting for some bus, this guy's billboards were all around me.

    I remember watching this live. I was 20 years old. Prince was the absolute BOMB! My then boyfriend (now husband) could not stand Prince! We got married on June 7th and he swore I picked that date on purpose because it was Prince's birthday (I had no idea. That was the age before the internet). After Prince died, we went and toured Paisley Park. My husband completely changed his view of Prince after that tour. He was blown away when he learned the true genius Prince was and he now has a great respect for him and loves his music. We never got to see Prince in concert and my husband truly regrets that now.
