At the beginning of this vid, I thought you were going to give the XE the thumbs down. By the end, all was good with the world. Modern Jags are so underrated. They deserve better.
I agree. I've had lots of comments whilst this XE has been in the showroom from people telling me it doesn't look anything like a proper Jag. I disagree. I've been using this one for a few weeks and I like it even more. Its a lovely modern Jag
@@HighPeakAutos I think the two best car designers of the last 10-15 years were Ed Welburn at GM and Ian Callum at Jaguar. Both men had great taste, and the designs their shops turned out have been beautifully sculpted. They also both did something that's incredibly difficult to pull off: They successfully updated their brands' design language.
I quite like the rear end from the side profile. Does make it feel a bit more like a RWD sports car like a BMW Z3, loads out front. The XF model that came out just after the XE feels very similar inside to me. Agree on the fact they drive nicer than a 3 series. Does have “that Jag feel”. You said it’s not perfect and that’s true, I don’t think any car is but with a British built car that’s part of its character for me.
I bought my 2016, XE 2.0d AWD R Sport 30 months ago and love it as much now as the day I bought it. I use it daily for work and every time I get in it I still get the same joyful feeling. It is the only car that I have ever owned where random strangers have come up to me in car parks etc and tell me how lovely it looks or ask me questions about it. There is plenty of power and top end speed for the UK roads and I find it very comfortable. I keep records of everything I ever spent on it including fuel and to date I am averaging 48 mpg but give it some welly and that can rapidly drop. All my life I have wanted a Jaguar but have had to make do with practical, economic family cars but eventually I got my old man badge, mortgage paid and kids out and could actually buy something for me. I really wanted a sports car but as I can only afford one car had to compromise and decided to go for the XE because it is sporty but still has at least some practicality. In truth it is probably not very good at sport or practical but it drives brilliantly and just every now and then you find yourself on one of those brilliant, winding, undulating roads that are not full of pot holes and there is little or no traffic. Then you can switch to Dynamic mode and it really is the most fun with as much power, speed and incredible road holding a non professional driver could ever need. I have never had a Mercedes, BMW etc so cannot compare but for me I dont know how any other car would be better than my XE.
@@cliffbangr Since I had it, I have only had servicing costs. One normal service cost £300.00 and one major a tad under £500.00. I had to buy new front tyres at 28000 miles and new rears 5 months later at 33000 miles. Tyres were Pirelli P7's and cost around £128.00 each fitted. It had to go in 4 times for some warranty work, mainly vibrations and rattles and a replacement headlight washer unit. I had a white blemish appear under the laquer on one of my wheels. All warranty was work done by Guy Salmon dealership I bought it from with no fuss or quibble. I guess my brakes will want doing soon but at the moment they look and work fine. I am slightly worried about the electronics only because every now and then, maybe 3 or 4 times in the 2.5 years I have had it, all my personalised settings just disappear with no reason. It only takes a minute to put them back but not knowing why it does this makes me wonder if there is something waiting to burst out when my warranty finishes next March ? I never go over 2000 rpm until it is properly warmed up and always drive in eco mode unless I get some clear road or opportunity to put my foot down a bit. Otherwise, I top up the adblue and screen wash myself, have never put any oil, brake fluid or other stuff in it and have probably spent more on car cleaning kit than maintenance lmao. Hope this helps.
Wow.. This guy was straight up honest with absolutely no bs and non complicated to listen to. Love how he said at end..LET'S face it.. Fact of life is that Every used car regardless the make.. Will always break. Just need to take care of it & service it and you should be fine. Bravo my man as kept thinking Benz and beamers are far more superior. That said.. I thank you. You've made it easier to trade in my bmw 3 series for beautiful 2017 Jaguar Xe. Cheers from Harrisburg PA!
i like how you pointed out that those who buy small saloon (a4, 3, c class, xe) doesn’t care about how fast the car can go, because not only the manufacturers that got it wrong, but a lot of journalist and car reviewers on youtube as well. nice one!
I’ve had mine since September and I still get excited to drive it, I have the XE R Sport 2t petrol and would definitely recommend anyone looking to buy. I find it really efficient as well. To make a point, my Missus isnt into cars and is just happy to drive a polo but now she’s definitely come over to the Jag side and gets just as excited about driving it simply because its so easy to drive, comfortable and has kick to it when you put your foot down
I have an XE and agree with your analysis. Had a Mercedes C350 previously, which felt like it was built from granite. But even with winter tyres, it was shocking in the snow. The XE feels like its made from polystyrene in comparison. But its the 4wd 240bhp diesel, is quick, unstoppable in snow and returns over 50mpg on the motorway. Which you couldn't say that about many cars. Also, thoroughly agree with your Nurburgring comment, comfort is more important than a lap time.
If you want mpg, comfort, four wheel drive and good lap car you need to buy audi a4 they are just perfect all around. Bmw is too sporty mercedes is to comforty but audi sits in the middle and then there is xe i want xe because it looks so good best in class imo
@@locasenior8229 xe is better because (at least in my country) they are rare. They look very luxurious and thus are compared to cars like 5 series or e class. Their cost to run, mpg, cost to purchase etc everything comes almost equal, and sometimes cheaper than comparable f30 3 series!
I’m tired of seeing reviews for luxury cars that focus so much time on 0-60, handling and road feel. A luxury car is supposed to be soft, comfortable and isolating. If I want a fast car that takes corners well, I’ll buy a sports car. This and the Genesis are the last of a dying breed. Everyone else makes a luxury car for 16 year olds. I have a bad back and the most comfortable new car I ever owned was a Chrysler 300C. My BMW 745i wasn’t even close to being as comfortable.
I've literally just bought a Jaguar XE R-Sport 4 days ago. It's black with the black pack. Absolutely awesome car. Looks awesome, gets loads of attention and drives amazing plus a 2 year warranty and 2 year breakdown cover from Jaguar. Best car I've ever had - Would definitely recommend.
I had an R-sport from new . A brilliant car. I've been driving the new XE for a week now. The interior has improved and the drive is still brilliant. Jags have had a lot of stick for years but I've driven various models for over 25 years now and have never had one breakdown
I just moved over from a e90 320d msport to a jag XE. I actually love how it looks I swaped out the wheels from an XF to 19" and that is the icing on the cake. I love my XE and super excited to drive and always give it a second look as I walk away.
Well I have taken your recommendation and bought a 2016 XE ! only had it for a week, and I must say I love it !! while you dont like the short back end I think its perfect :) but then not everyone likes the same things ! I do agree as an all round car, this ticks all the boxes. Loved your review !
Hi im in business to buy this car in few months im looking between a5, series 4, c or e class i dont like japanese cars but il go for mazda 6 or this which would you recomend and if you have driven the others what is the feeling. In my country they are little bit more expensive tham other brands but they for me ans other feel like expensiver cars
Easily some of the the most balanced car reviews I have come across, highly enjoyable. Should you happen to have an XE in stock anytime soon I may pay you a visit.
Don’t you just know that, inevitably, this man is going to be spotted, then recruited, by a TV company. Blessed with calm and a quiet charm. Best of luck to him.
You're right - I drove a Merc C220d last year and it had that entry level feel with a too-stiff rear "Nurburgring" suspension. Every day I was hoping the garage would tell me my 22 year old car was fixed.
I bought one in February 2020, 2.0d RWD portfolio 2015. Cream leather, maroon paintwork, auto box, 58mpg to and from work and £30 a year to tax. Not only the best car I have ever owned, it's the best THING I have ever owned!!! Beautiful to drive and beautiful to look at (from the front)
I fell in love with my Jaguar X type 2.2 estimate. So much so that I kept it for nine years... I swapped it for an 18 month old XE 2.0 portfolio . And fell in love with that as well. 16 Reg, I don’t have a heated steering wheel. But in the U.K. I will forgive that. I do have power fold mirrors, which is useful. Well recommended . A beautiful car. I’m keeping this for the foreseeable as well...
I bought my wife a 2016 XE 25t nearly 3 years ago. Sight unseen at an immigration sale with 21k miles on it. Flew down to Cape Town to collect and drove it +/-1000 miles back home. Best car purchase ever. Now everytime we got out as a family, I find myself jumping in her car over my c class. I'm due for a replacement soon and I'm looking at getting the XF. Thanks for another great video👍
Completely agree about the awkward & plain looking rear end. For me it's those tail lights. They're too big & look too much like the first gen Audi A5 tail lights. They should've given it F-type inspired tail lights like they did with the F-Pace. Then it would have looked brilliant and timeless.
I know it's been said, but the key points you've thrown in at the very beginning covers the thoughts of what every day customers consider. Comfort and practicality in the real world over something that can beat lap times. This seems to no longer be a talking point to reviewers who head on in with positive feedback for 'sporty handling'. Great review sir
Your reviews are really good and really honest. I like how you prove some of these other reviewers totally wrong. The guy who does a lot of WhatCar reviews talks BS all the time. Always saying there's no leg room even in an XF, always saying it's noisy, and then always finding the lightest piece of trim and tapping it heavily and saying 'it feels cheap' Thanks for doing well rounded, honest reviews.
Another very nice review once again. I test drove the 30t R-Sport recently, and I have to agree that it's effortless, smooth and comfortable. But I also agree that the interior quality in general could be more consistent and that the rear headlights could look better. While I haven't driven the W205 C-Class or the F30 or G20 3 Series, I have driven the Alfa Romeo Giulia (2.2L Diesel) and the Lexus IS350. I found that the steering on Giulia is lighter and faster but feel rushed and lacked feedback compared to the XE, although I think the Giulia has more spacious interior and boot, and is the best looking in class (although this is a subjective matter). I also think that the XE has better steering, much faster transmission, better infotainment system and feel far more effortless and faster to drive compared to the heavy IS350, which you have to rev hard to really push. While the Lexus is the most old fashioned of the three, I felt that the interior quality was superior to the other two and the most comfortable to drive. I have driven the previous generation Audi A4 2L Petrol, and I found it boring despite it being the best all-rounder in my opinion. I would assume that the current generation is just a better all-rounder than the B8 rather than becoming a more exciting car. If I have to pick one, I would take the Lexus IS350 because I enjoy driving it, find it very comfortable and also due to Lexus' reputation with reliability and servicing despite being behind in some areas. I also really liked the LCD display from the Lexus LFA in the IS350 F-Sport that I drove. I guess I am a big fan of (higher-performance) Lexus as you say with Jaguar and Land Rovers. But if it's just the base models, I would probably pick the XE ahead of the IS200t/300 and the other competitors.
I am German and I think this Jag is the best you can get if you are looking for a sporty limousine. It just combines it all, style, comfort, efficiency and that little bit of extravaganza.
Enjoyed the review and love the honesty. You have a real way with words. I've driven several XEs and they are a great drive especially on country roads. Good mix of comfort and handling. I didn't like the manual it wasn't a very sporty gearbox but the autos were grand. Ultimately I went with an XF because of the increased interior space, grander interior (leather dash) and smoother drive with 3 litre v6 diesel instead of 2 litre 4 pot. However, I agree with your later comment that the XE is a vastly underrated car. Can't think why there aren't more on the roads.
Great video mate! I’m saving for an XE and I’ve watched a few videos now about them and Your video is the best! just a brilliant honest review that isn’t biased or full of bulls*** nice job! :)
I moved to UK a few years ago and I live in a small town, till now I had no need for a car so I didn't get one, few months ago I had my first baby and I realised how badly I am in need of a car so I shopped around and after looking at all the options I fell in love with this Jaguar xe. So I bought a 2016 XE 20d 180 bhp from a jaguar dealer. I love this car I had forgotten how much I enjoyed driving, now am looking forward to getting a job bit away from where I live so I can drive this more. 😊
This is the review I've been waiting for. I was worried at the start, but I'm glad the Jag pulled out the win. It's top of my list at the minute to replace my 2015 Octavia but I was a little concerned it might feel small. Glad to see you can fit in the back. Another good and useful video.
I have a 2017 XE diesel. It is nearly 3 years now with an annual mileage of 20k km. Reliability is excellent except for the mountings. I have changed out 3 sets to date within warranty. I believe this is an issue affecting diesel XE owners worldwide. It is either the quality of mountings used, or excessive vibrations from the 4 cylinder diesel ingenium engine that JLR needs to address, which they have not.
@@samueldusciuc6401 Going to be in it's 5th year in 5 months. No problem at all. Due to Covid travel restrictions, I do not travel long distances at high-speed anymore. Can't tell if the last mount was an improved set.
@@Steven__Steven Okay appreciate the information and I'm really happy to hear the car works well. I want methanol for the added HP and cleaning agents against the filter not clogging which I know diesel can have! I will travel distance being in the usa so glad to hear it does that well as electric cars are limited for now. Waiting on solid state batteries
recently i was lucky enough to have found an immaculate 2017 XE 35t R-Sport fully loaded with 40k miles - after 2017 I feel like Jaguar neutered the XE dropping the supercharged V6 for their 4 cylinder turbo - the car is a pure dream to drive. thank you for your reviews - i always learn something.
I'm on my second Jag now. Started with a 2012 3.0d V6 and changed a couple of months ago to a 2018 2.0d R-Sport 180 - the XF version of what you were driving. Both Jags have been outstanding cars and I speak from experience. Over the years I have owned several quality cars including 3 and 5 series BMWs, Volvos, Audi A4 and A6, my other half still drives my old Merc E320. All of them were good cars (except the Audi A6 which went through a series of catastrophic failures). Each car had something I loved but each had it's problems too. To say Jaguar's are less reliable or that their build quality is inferior to any of them is simply not true.the Jags are not perfect by any means but they are an 'all round' better choice and a WAY superior drive. Don't look at a badge and assume it must be good, drive it then decide. Before anyone asks - No I do not work for nor do i have any affiliation to JLR.
BC Thanks for your comments. I totally agree with you. With my job I get a wide variety of cars, and I can confidently say that Jaguar are no worse than any other brand
I'm planning to get a XE aswell, currently I'm driving a Suzuki Jimny cause I always wanted to get an Off Roader as my first car. But now I need something more smooth to drive, affordable and with more space for my own little family later. I love the looks of the XE and I quiet prefer the rear end of the XE more then the XF 4:07 I watched up some pictures of the 2016 and later models of the XF, and I have to say it looks a bit wider then the XE which i quiet like, but I dont like chrome that flows intot he rear lights AT ALL so I have to stick with the XE, also the price of a normal fuel XE here in Germany are quiet affordable with around 16.000 - 25.000€ for a car with between 30.000 - 70.000 kilometers. So I hope I will find a good one within the next year. :D
I think the 2019 facelift delivers everything you list as a criticism so just maybe it is finally the Jag people want and will buy. I’m currently in a 2018 340i but it just feels a bit 1980 inside, whereas the Jag looks modern. The seats have always been like sitting on a wooden bench in the beemer so good to hear the Jag excels where the bmw has always been a big failure! Another great review - more!
The 340 is an amazing bit of kit personally i wouldnt change my XE i absolutely luv it i dont understand why jag sales are so low on it i think its brilliant
I really like this review, not laddish or over the top, clear, concise and to the point. It certainly makes me want to at least take a test drive of one of these fine cars. I’ve always fancied a recent 3 series, but when I recently got a lift in one, I couldn’t believe how loud the road noise was for such a modern car. I can live with a firmish ride, but the din was disappointing. I have an old 2007 Accord and it’s much more hushed, yet handles well. I’ve always fancied an XF, but this size suits me, fine. Great review, look forward to other ones by you, thanks.
I had to collect one of these from another work location after an employee left the Company...i was plesantly surprised by the ride quality...like you said...positives outweigh the negatives.
Great review. Totally agree about comfort v speed. Give me comfort every time. I test drove a used R-Sport and Prestige XE. The R-Sport was very firm and jiggly. Prestige much more compliant. May be some day I will take the plunge!
Excellent review having had 3 litre XF for many years and then driving 2 litre XE was disappointing particularly the engine noise when accelerating. Spot on about rear end too and the exhausts are not as good as the XF.
Dan, I'm with you on this the XF is a dream Jag, I drove the 5l V8, which was mad crazy fun, but undriveable in traffic, and practically unusable on most roads, the 3l V6 petrol was what I chose and I'm so glad I did!
I loved my 2015 XF. My 2018 XE isn't quite as luxurious, and the 2.0 Turbocharged engine doesn't have the nice growl of the 3.0 Supercharged engine, but the trade off is twice the fuel economy with a car that's still a nice ride, and a nice place to sit.
If you want a comfortable car that always puts a smile on my face when i drive it go buy an xe the handling performance and cost of ownership is actually very good and there aint loads on the road unlike all the German cars you see ever 10 seconds. I have to say i love mine go buy one you won't be disappointed 👍
Coming from multiple XJ's and loving jags in general I really really wanted to like the XE - I agree with your points on the whole, I thought the steering was superb however I just found the visibility to be shocking - you can't see anything out the back, the door cards are also very high and the pillars wide, for a small car they are horrid to park which really put me off. Compare that to an X308 which is bigger but feels smaller some how. For the price I would just add a couple of grand and jump right into an XF. Great video and I'm happy to have subscribed.
Fantastic summary of what people actually want from this type of car, you hit the nail on the head! I hope manufacturers start listening. Really great videos, honest reviews are in short supply these days, keep it up!
Lovely, balanced review with some very beautiful scenery! These videos just keep getting better and better. Very much enjoyed the references to the M25 and Beaconsfield services! Thanks again for producing such consistently excellent content, Matt.
I had a test drive in a R Sport 200PS back in about 2015 and decided to get the 250PS on retirement ( I worked in ME so no point pulling trigger beforehand). Got the R Sport 300PS in 2018, 18 way seats and active dynamics. Love it. I don't need a diesel as I don't do high milage (and even less with the Covids). I keep the suspension and steering in comfort and only use the dynamic engine setting to overtake in a hurry. In normal mode it is fine. A good choice. On B roads it is like driving on rails. I can recommend it.
I think the only problem, and perhaps a trap, for the people tempted to buy these used luxury cars, is the fact that they think they are getting a great deal, and they forget that while it may be an old and used car that's cheap to buy -- *the service and repairs will still cost as if that car was brand new*
@@Hattonbank OEM parts will still cost a lot, and by the way some of these cars are terribly built (non repair friendly) the mechanic will have to take apart the entire front of the car to get to struts for example, which will end up multiple hours of labor costs.
I got a cracking deal on a new 2019 XE and bought it on the spot Four weeks on and I find the 180bhp Diesel engine punchy and the auto box is good and easy to live with and sure footed being AWD. But.... the interior space is a little cramped and the centre seat uncomfortable on the legs. Access is or seems to be awkward with passengers banging there heads while getting in/out, the rear vision is terrible but there is a rear view camera for reversing. I think the Mini Cooper has a bigger boot and must be the smallest in its class swallowing one large suitcase only the second going on the back seat. What happens if you have four passengers and two large cases?? With hindsight I shouldn’t have bought a Skoda superb for practically but Jaguar does so much well I bought it in a heart beat
Another good review mate, and one of the few that agrees with my point, that the room in the rear is a non-issue. I'm 6'2" and fit no problem. We went for the best spec too, an XE S 380 💪🏼😉
Fantastic review, very honest and very true to the car. [before seeing this review] I had bought a 15 reg Portfolio and absolutely love it. Like you mentioned, it can be driven all day and you don’t feel it! It’s comfortable, plenty powerful and yes, I also wondered why they couldn’t have just thrown in the electric folding on the mirrors! As someone below mentioned, you have a great review style. Subscribed!
Agree 💯% also the manual will never brake, and if it is, the cost to repair it will be very small compare to the cost for fixing the automatic which Will brake 100%
I'm not sure what to make of this review. I agree with you on your Range Rover posts - and I am a big RR fan - but you're unusually grumpy here. My partner has an XE - 2 litre petrol - and, when I borrow it, and come off the M40 at Beaconsfield (as mentioned in the vid) and head to Amersham (where we live) I avoid the straight A355 and go through Penn on the back roads...simply because the XE is such a nice car to chuck about. Yes, the interior is a bit lacking BUT it is a lovely car to drive.
Alan Mac Haha I do come across as a bit grumpy in this vid, but that’s mainly when talking about other small exec cars. The XE is really good fun to drive on twisty roads. I’ve enjoyed using it
Great handling thing. However too compromised on interior quality and space. Engine terrible too refinement wise. With the risk of sounding like Alan Patridge Beaconsfield is simply the best service station experience in the whole of the UK followed by Chobham. Mini shopping centres makes clacketts and watford gap etc feel like a step down. Aha.
Bought an F10 based on your video Matt, so I find myself here as it's due a replacement. Having a bad XF experience was never gonna buy another JLR product.....but these look so good.
I am really interested to see how much better the new XE is. I went down the predictable 3 Series route in 2016 just because the XE was 1st gen and as a rule I always steer clear of any brand new model. Good job on an honest review.
I bought a 2017 XE 35t Premium because it had all I wanted - that excellent chassis, godlike suspension and the sweet 340hp supercharged V6. Didn’t bother about leather seats, heated seats or other nonsensical stuff. The build quality isn’t the best so in my opinion it’s not worth it to go to the highest trim level in a Jag. This is still the best driving car in this segment. It’s been 4 years and I haven’t had any issues so it’s also been reliable.
i got a 63k prestige manule model... zero tax I hate automatics so thats why i went with the 6 speed... quite honestly most comfortable car i have ever driven
Thanks as always for a very good review. Whilst I'd prefer an XF, I rather like the XE too and I'd definitely prefer one to the German rivals any day of the week.
I have an XF , my daughter an XE, both in black. The problem is you can’t really easily tell the difference unless they sit side by side, which begs the question why buy an XE when for a little bit extra you have an XF ?
I've been in an XE {although not driven one) it was a MK1 and my only downside was the infotainment graphics were shite. The ride comfort was spot on, it went round corners effortlessly and it was reasonably well equipped. I would consider one. Good review, thanks.
My jaguar xe portfolio 2016 has power folding mirrors, and a sunroof witch I'm told is quite rare, lovely car to drive, comfortable, and mine is only £20 a year to tax , whats not to like , the only thing I'm going to do is do a oil change every year, 2 years inbetween oil changes i don't think so, great video again, 😁👍
Great review, but Jaguars are heartbreaking cars, they are beautiful and so stylish to then break your heart with expensive repairs since not many mechanics know how to work on them here in NY USA...... but it’s expected, ‘It’s a Jag’
I'm defo with you on the comfort thing. I went from a sporty BMW to a sporty mondeo to a touring insignia. The softer sprung estate car floats through the pot holes glides down the motorway. Dad's and kids want comfort not to drag race everything like car flecking wow... 😉
Kenny Bunting And here I though I wanted comfort because I'm becoming an old man. It's nice to see all the folks here confirming my own observation that harsh rides are not fun. Also I'm picky about noise. Seems like a lot of manufacturers don't try to quiet the cars. I don't like noisy interiors. If I remember correctly Jag put on some device in the latest XJ to pump engine noise into the interior. Me no like.
I'm by no means a petrol head but I AM considering buying this car and I actually laughed (with you!) at some of the points you made. Thanks so much for providing an honest, useful and balanced review. I'm now going to book a test drive, woo-hoo.
Sorry i have a Jag XE and i have to say the best car ive ever had its absolutely brilliant around country roads the grip is brilliant would 100% recommend over a BMW your right the m25 is a nightmare but other than that when you do over 45k miles per year this is the car you want the only criticism i have is the rear seats and boot space for the kids buggy etc other than that cant fault it would definitely stick with my EX
As a fairly long-time owner (2017 2l diesel) I can say mine, at least, has been trouble-free and a joy to own. It gets an annual service at the dealer, and otherwise just behaves itself. Lovely car - sad to see them gone.
Another cracking drive . Sorry to sound like a creep but I really like your style; it's like going out for a drive with a mate...
Me too Haha even though I hate diesel cars
Thanks for your comments! I appreciate it :)
Yeah agree with you there Chris!
I agree too, brilliant to watch
I can say the same
At the beginning of this vid, I thought you were going to give the XE the thumbs down.

Obviously written by someone who has never owned or driven a Jaguar made before 1997.

How’s maintenance?
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your Jag! I've just bought an XE R-Sport. Black with red leather which I'm currently using. Theyre very good cars
highly watchable and refreshing content.
With all these funny comments and analogies he must be a hoot at a cocktail party
Thanks! :)
i like how you pointed out that those who buy small saloon (a4, 3, c class, xe) doesn’t care about how fast the car can go, because not only the manufacturers that got it wrong, but a lot of journalist and car reviewers on youtube as well.
Good choice! Love the look of the R-Sport model :)
Ryan is that a 2019?
I had an R-sport from new . A brilliant car. I've been driving the new XE for a week now. The interior has improved and the drive is still brilliant. Jags have had a lot of stick for years but I've driven various models for over 25 years now and have never had one breakdown
I love the new style steering wheel on the new XE
@@HighPeakAutos Jaguars managed to take a great car and improve it
I just moved over from a e90 320d msport to a jag XE. I actually love how it looks I swaped out the wheels from an XF to 19" and that is the icing on the cake. I love my XE and super excited to drive and always give it a second look as I walk away.
Good idea upgrading the wheels! :)
Had mine for 3 years with no issues and I love it !
Well I have taken your recommendation and bought a 2016 XE ! only had it for a week, and I must say I love it !! while you dont like the short back end I think its perfect :) but then not everyone likes the same things ! I do agree as an all round car, this ticks all the boxes. Loved your review !
Jim Henshaw Pleased to hear it. After I did this video I used it for about a month and I loved it. They’re seriously underrated cars
Any update?
High peaks auto is one of the best car reviewers on the Internet. Trustworthy and in touch with the buying public.
Easily some of the the most balanced car reviews I have come across, highly enjoyable. Should you happen to have an XE in stock anytime soon I may pay you a visit.
Thanks for the review. Love the countryside views too. Makes me long for the two years I spend happily living in England.
jagreb Thanks for watching! Happy new year 😉
Great video as all your others are. I chose the XE S over a 340i last year and dont regret it one bit!
Thanks for watching! Great choice by the way! :)
How has maint been?? Anything major? How are your tires and brakes after 7months
Don’t you just know that, inevitably, this man is going to be spotted, then recruited, by a TV company. Blessed with calm and a quiet charm. Best of luck to him.
Thanks!
Very nice!
Tim Holyoake Theyre great cars
“They want something that’s cheap to run, cheap to tax, and effortless.” Your problem there is that you are using logic. How dare you?
Haha I know, what an idiot!
You're right! They should have copied the F-Type rear lights :)
Very refreshing to hear genuine honesty, all modern cars are over complicated and do have problems in all areas.
Cheers
I know it's been said, but the key points you've thrown in at the very beginning covers the thoughts of what every day customers consider. Comfort and practicality in the real world over something that can beat lap times. This seems to no longer be a talking point to reviewers who head on in with positive feedback for 'sporty handling'. Great review sir
VincennamonLe I agree! Thanks for watching 😉
I bought my XE 3,5 years ago and I still look at it as on the first day 🥰
Good choice!
Your reviews are really good and really honest. I like how you prove some of these other reviewers totally wrong.
The guy who does a lot of WhatCar reviews talks BS all the time. Always saying there's no leg room even in an XF, always saying it's noisy, and then always finding the lightest piece of trim and tapping it heavily and saying 'it feels cheap'
Thanks for doing well rounded, honest reviews.
Just got my first Jaguar XE sport, after watching a few reviews from yourself on a few cars that I was interested in.
Pleased to hear it. Are you happy with it?
..."you have to fold your mirrors in manually, by hand... like a cave man" Great line! 🤣
bullshit, comes with auto retract mirrors if required
Mine is like that and they don't go in that far so its pointless really. Still think the EX is the best care for everyday use by miiiiiles
Great review as always. I totally agree with the ‘stubby’ rear end on this car! Great from the front but not so great from the back.
I am German and I think this Jag is the best you can get if you are looking for a sporty limousine. It just combines it all, style, comfort, efficiency and that little bit of extravaganza.
Better than a Giulia so to say?
Thanks for watching!
Pleased to hear it! Thats exactly what a Jaguar should be about :)
This is the review I've been waiting for. I was worried at the start, but I'm glad the Jag pulled out the win. It's top of my list at the minute to replace my 2015 Octavia but I was a little concerned it might feel small. Glad to see you can fit in the back. Another good and useful video.
Thanks for watching! Stepping out of an Octavia, this will still feel special. It would be a nice upgrade :)
The new facelift model is spot on though 😎
I have a 2017 XE diesel. It is nearly 3 years now with an annual mileage of 20k km. Reliability is excellent except for the mountings. I have changed out 3 sets to date within warranty.
I believe this is an issue affecting diesel XE owners worldwide.
It is either the quality of mountings used, or excessive vibrations from the 4 cylinder diesel ingenium engine that JLR needs to address, which they have not.
Still any issues with the 20d? I'm very tempted to purchase one and methanol inject it
@@samueldusciuc6401 Going to be in it's 5th year in 5 months.
I agree, its a shame they've dropped that engine
When you get that TH-cam notification! Top work. Very refreshing to see honest content.
Toby White Thanks! 👍🏻
I completely agree with you that current small saloons are way to focused on handling and not enough about comfort.
That’s convinced me to get one, cheers
I`m buying two!
Thanks for your comments! Always appreciate it :)
You didn’t want to wait for the 2019 3series facelift ?
Thank you! I appreciate it :)
I had to collect one of these from another work location after an employee left the Company...i was plesantly surprised by the ride quality...like you said...positives outweigh the negatives.
Just bought a Xe petrol 2.0t. Love it 😊
Great review. Totally agree about comfort v speed. Give me comfort every time. I test drove a used R-Sport and Prestige XE. The R-Sport was very firm and jiggly. Prestige much more compliant. May be some day I will take the plunge!
Thanks for your comments! :)
So agree with your statement about cars needing to be comfortable and not focused on lapping the Nurburgring.
I had one as a hire car, and was surprised at just how good it was to drive. I'd buy one.
I agree
Excellent review having had 3 litre XF for many years and then driving 2 litre XE was disappointing particularly the engine noise when accelerating. Spot on about rear end too and the exhausts are not as good as the XF.
I agree! I would choose the XF
How does it drive in space?
Dan, I'm with you on this the XF is a dream Jag, I drove the 5l V8, which was mad crazy fun, but undriveable in traffic, and practically unusable on most roads, the 3l V6 petrol was what I chose and I'm so glad I did!
Good choice. Still plenty of power and sensible MPG
I have an XE 340s, and I love the sound of it. I bought it used with low mileage and a 3 years Jaguar Approved Guarantee.
Good choice!
Thank you! :)
Had a Jaguar xe for 2 years now and it’s brilliant 60 mpg on a run comfortable and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another

I think the only problem, and perhaps a trap, for the people tempted to buy these used luxury cars, is the fact that they think they are getting a great deal, and they forget that while it may be an old and used car that's cheap to buy -- *the service and repairs will still cost as if that car was brand new*
With a used car, do not go to expensive main dealers (£140 plus per hour), go to a trusted independent for half the labour cost
@@Hattonbank OEM parts will still cost a lot, and by the way some of these cars are terribly built (non repair friendly) the mechanic will have to take apart the entire front of the car to get to struts for example, which will end up multiple hours of labor costs.
I got a cracking deal on a new 2019 XE and bought it on the spot
Four weeks on and I find the 180bhp Diesel engine punchy and the auto box is good and easy to live with and sure footed being AWD.
But.... the interior space is a little cramped and the centre seat uncomfortable on the legs.
Great review; fully agree - it's in a very crowded segment.
Another good review mate, and one of the few that agrees with my point, that the room in the rear is a non-issue. I'm 6'2" and fit no problem.
We went for the best spec too, an XE S 380 💪🏼😉
V88 Dicky Good choice! I’ve been using this car more and more and I really like it
Fantastic review, very honest and very true to the car. You should try the 25T as well. Sounds nice for a 2.0 I4 and pops and crackles on stock exhaust

Love this video. Great style and informative. I like the way you call it as it is. I've just ordered a new Jaaaag xe.
Richard Richard Pleased to hear it. The facelift model is very nice
@@HighPeakAutos I had one of the original Xe s and enjoyed driving it very much.
"Who wants a manual Jag". I DO!! I hate automatics deciding when to change gear for me. I had a manual XJ and it was fantastic.
they have paddle shifters
Agree 💯% also the manual will never brake, and if it is, the cost to repair it will be very small compare to the cost for fixing the automatic which Will brake 100%
Enjoyed. Good choice I am a Jag man anyway. Agree with the rear shape, not as nice as the XF. Many thanks
Paul Newton Thanks for watching 👍🏻
I’ve enjoyed using it
@@HighPeakAutos Try dynamic mode .
Nice part of the world you live in. I can recommend the Penn festival. Sounds like the jag is a car I could do with in my life.
Aha.
I think the XE is a really good effort at taking on the compact executive market - decent competition for the 3 series. Well done Tata.
I agree. More people should've bought them

Best car Review i've seen on here, defo deserves a sub
Thanks
I am really interested to see how much better the new XE is. I went down the predictable 3 Series route in 2016 just because the XE was 1st gen and as a rule I always steer clear of any brand new model. Good job on an honest review.
Its a wise decision to rule out the 1st gen. The 2019 facelift looks good though
Love mine. Same spec as that, same colour, but I have the folding wing mirrors, sun roof and memory seats.
It’s been 4 years and I haven’t had any issues so it’s also been reliable.
i got a 63k prestige manule model...
zero tax
I hate automatics so thats why i went with the 6 speed... quite honestly most comfortable car i have ever driven
Thanks as always for a very good review. Whilst I'd prefer an XF, I rather like the XE too and I'd definitely prefer one to the German rivals any day of the week.
I've been using this XE for a few weeks now and I love it. Its all the car you'd need
@@HighPeakAutos better than Audi A4 2016??
I have an XF , my daughter an XE, both in black. The problem is you can’t really easily tell the difference unless they sit side by side, which begs the question why buy an XE when for a little bit extra you have an XF ?
Good honest review, well played mate.
Liam Brown Thanks!
I've been in an XE {although not driven one) it was a MK1 and my only downside was the infotainment graphics were shite. The ride comfort was spot on, it went round corners effortlessly and it was reasonably well equipped. I would consider one. Good review, thanks.
I've been using this one for the last few days and I really like it. Its got plenty of power and its a pleasure to drive
Great review again there mate! Very informative! I love your reviews, gives me a nice know how on the vehicles
Thanks! :)
Taste is subjective, I love the rear end, it kind of sells it for me as well as the front.
So glad you did this review Matt... I was toying with the idea of changing my 4 series for a XE ...i dont think i will bother now.
Great review, but Jaguars are heartbreaking cars, they are beautiful and so stylish to then break your heart with expensive repairs since not many mechanics know how to work on them here in NY USA...... but it’s expected, ‘It’s a Jag’
Very pleased with my R sport petrol auto comfortable quick and so far reliable which is more than I can say about previous XK
Great review! I've just ordered one, only thing to do now is justify the 'man maths' to my girlfriend!
Me no like.
I agree! I didn't want to sound like Victor Meldrew, but everything is too uncomfortable these days
I'm by no means a petrol head but I AM considering buying this car and I actually laughed (with you!) at some of the points you made. Thanks so much for providing an honest, useful and balanced review. I'm now going to book a test drive, woo-hoo.
I like them, never had a jag but i might get one of those.
Fantastic review. Great and honest. 😊
Gotta admit I do like these car reviews , nothing overhyped
Thanks
Sorry i have a Jag XE and i have to say the best car ive ever had its absolutely brilliant around country roads the grip is brilliant would 100% recommend over a BMW your right the m25 is a nightmare but other than that when you do over 45k miles per year this is the car you want the only criticism i have is the rear seats and boot space for the kids buggy etc other than that cant fault it would definitely stick with my EX
Love the honesty. Great review.
Thanks for watching!
I just love the analogies man
I think you should get a job on Top Gear!
The XE 240d is a superb car. Excellent ride and handling, good power and economical to boot. Personally, I very much like the way it looks too.
"So, you've got to fold the mirrors in manually, by hand, like a CAVEMAN.." Priceless :)
As a fairly long-time owner (2017 2l diesel) I can say mine, at least, has been trouble-free and a joy to own. It gets an annual service at the dealer, and otherwise just behaves itself. Lovely car - sad to see them gone.
Pleased to hear it
