I actually enjoyed the child version of Guinan. She also played Whoopi Goldberg as a child in “Sister Act.” Guinan’s line at the end about how crayons can take you to more places than a starship was eye-rolling.

my only nitpick the decades ago, when i watched this episode the first time was, that Guinan even when shes alien and hundreds of years older than any of the others, she still deaged the same way anyone else did.

its because they weren't particularly de-aged, the transporter accident reverted their bodies to a pre-pubescents state. that's why Picard and Keiko also ended up the same age, despite him being older than her.

    • @MyFiddlePlayer
      @MyFiddlePlayer ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@NerdilyDone It's not de-aging by a fixed increment, it is non-linear. That's why the plants went back a couple of weeks, Guinan went back a couple of centuries, and the others were somewhere in between.

I did not see this above video all the way through, but I should note that David Tristan Birkin, who played the young Picard, also played Picard's nephew Rene in the episode "Family". In that episode, Rene states that one day he will be in Starfleet and in charge of his own ship. It looks like "one day" came sooner than expected for David Tristan Birkin.

For a recurring character, O'Brien seemed to be on more episodes than some of the regular cast members. He definitely brought more of a family dynamic to the series than Dr. Crusher did when Wesley left. I've said it before that he should have stayed on TNG instead of jumping to the newer DS9 show just for main character credits.

I don’t really understand what problem you had with the techno babble in this episode. Riker explained a lot of very important components of the computer. But I’ve seen the Enterprise-D technical manual and he left out a lot of important items. Like the gyroscopic phase inducer manifold. And the subinduder static initiator (which of course is needed to decrease phasic shift in the aforementioned gyroscopic phase inducer manifolds).

As soon as I saw this pop up, I said, oh man, the guys are gonna really hate this one! Even I think it makes no sense. Stupid Ferengi. But I thought the child actors were charming, and did a pretty good job of learning their adult counterpart's quirks and mannerisms.
As an artist, I have done some experimenting with crayons and discovered they are very limiting. The wax does not go into the tooth of the paper easily so you don't get a nice color fill. Not is blending really possible as seen in the picture that like like a nebula. I do think the mother picture was actually drawn with crayon and it's pretty good. Very expressive. Given a choice, as a child artist I much preferred colored pencils.

Keiko in her usual "what about ME?" mood, thinking it's just awful her husband doesn't want to be with a child. Sh stared out with this attitude(why was she even on board in the first place? They never explain that) & then later spits on the Bajorans with that "your gods are just aliens" attitude. I genuinely dislike her character. She's the "Marge Simpson/Peggy Hill" obnoxious wife stereotype, always berating her husband, often snobby around everyone else & thinking she's flawless.

I found it humorous that although Captain Picard is rather short, his 12-year-old version was the same height as Dr. Crusher and slightly taller than Troi. I have a feeling that part of the reason he agreed to a relatively long encouragement talk from Troi was that he finally found someone shorter than him (who wasn't in elementary school).

At first found myself thinking C-, but later agreeing to a D range grade as well. Many good points.
The episode being non-character centered is spot on. I think they had two (2) too many character perspectives and would have been better as a two (2) character perspective with the same premise (adult officers turned into kids).
Kiko and Riker would have been my two (2) choices for an episode like this, as a sort of vanilla and chocolate perspective. Kiko's child character had some interesting perspectives as a mother and wife (kid with responsibilities). They could have paired that with Kid Riker, trying to maintain respect with his peers and failed skirt chasing in 10 Forward (kid with no responsibilities). It would have entered some humor in the episode (agree point).

Finally, the Ferrengi; ugh, they are just annoying side distractions, almost as if the director/producers are trying to distract you with a weak sub-plot. I cringe every time. I'm now convinced that they only introduced these stupid characters to give make-up artists jobs.

I love this episode, but what happened to Picard's fake heart.

I just wondered why the space anomaly didn't de-age the shuttle into scrap metal floating around with some dead babies in there. Oh yeah, TV plot.

I'm sure they will but I know they also have plans to watch the Star Trek movies and with the rate of progress it could be in the next year or longer before they get through all the Star Trek episodes

RVN isn't real. It was invented by Ronald D. Moore and Naren Shankar in the hope it would be a pleasing sound of letters that would not invite close scrutiny.

I think the episode would have been better, if Picard cane to the realization he was a child
And how he felt about children not only on the bridge, but on the ship. And want to leave
But Troi, Data, or Riker Remind him he is still "Jean Luc Picard" starfleet officer and captain to the Enterprise flagship, and he and everyone else need time to adjust to the new circumstance. But Beverly confirmed they would grow up normally, and keep their cognitive function. So him being Captian is still possible once the shock of the event is over
And Picard mopes before the Ferengi invade, and he gets his Mojo back reclaiming his ship as a Child With a organized team

But iv seen worse episodes, i gave it a B B- There were things that could have been flushed out or capitalized on. But it was good and i liked the consept even if it was slightly rushed for a what if story

Later seasons tend to at least have every episode enjoyable to watch even though the writing can be poor.

I dont think it was that bad, considering, that there was an Episode, where they all become Kids in the animated Series already, and that episode was REALLY shitty. This one was more Character-driven and explores, what it means to People or a Relationship, if you suddenly de-age by 20 years. I`d give it a B.

The Keiko kid was the best of the kid actors? Come on, she was the worst of the four. Kid Picard was quite good but I though the Ro kid actor did great seeming like Ro in a kid's body. Also the Guinan kid actor did well.
