The Stealth sections and the thug banter I feel are an underrated aspect of what makes these game leave an impact even after so long. It's a small thing, but I adore the ambience in Asylum. The calm music when Ivy attacks the batcave and you have to glide between rocks gives a feeling of calm serenity.

I never got why properties like Jurassic Park and Arkham Asylum never lean into the horror that's present in the source material. Its a gold mine studios never seem to be willing to pillage.
Because, unfortunately, horror is a somewhat divisive genre, difficult to do well and these are franchises that appeal to children (a massive market you don’t want to cut out if you can help it-they traditionally buy the toys after all). Why would a studio want to take such a big risk on such a beloved property? They’re in the business of making money, not embracing new approaches to art.
Asylum HAD horror elements and honestly was so dark compared to the rest of what we got. It SHOULDVE had more horror elements, and there are sprinkles (though sparse) in the rest of the games like Professor Pyg. But you're right. I even remember an article before City came out talking about how it would be darker and scarier and more mature. They had a great blueprint for success initially man. And while they're still some of my favorite games of all time only behind games like Bayonetta, you're absolutely right.
The Scarecrow was at his absolute peak in terms of his illusions and those segments are full of brilliant level design. And none of those nightmare sequences scared me NEARLY as much as the Croc sewer level. I nearly had panic attacks trying to do that.
Not too sure about modern gameplay because the Arkham series had the best gameplay ever, especially compared to Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad, or any other modern game. In fact, those games just made me want to play Asylum for the millionth time

AA was my first console game, and i was still getting used to the standard d-pad 2 stick controller, let alone the terminology like bumper and trigger. When the game told me to use the middle stick I believed it.
I was a full grown adult when I first played that game but was so scared of being jumpscared. My batman basically tiptoed through all of it. It's a good memory of an experience i haven't been able to recreate.
I'm playing the game and I don't understand people who put this game in videos like "games that shouldn't be scary but make you scared" from what I'm playing ,the game clearly wants you to be a little scared, you're not that scared because you're the fucking Batman, but the intention is clear

From what I know Arkham asylum took heavy inspiration from the 1989 Batman story Arkham asylum: a serious house on serious earth which is considered to be the darkest Batman story ever written
They just nailed it with this trilogy, even with Titan Joker in Asylum and the overuse of the Batmobile in Knight. Origins deserves more respect too. Comparing all 4 with Gotham Knights and Kill The Justice League tells you all you need to know.

Scarecrow looking like the one from the Nolan films is kinda hilarious in hindsight because in the dubbed version of Arkham Knight in my language, Scarecrow is voiced by the same VA who dubbed the Scarecrow from the Nolan films. Also, in a more hilarious tone, for Arlham Origins, in my language the Riddler was voiced by the same VA who voiced Jim Carrey's Riddler. So it is funny to have this weird connection between the Nolan films and 90s Batman in the same game series. Lol
The lighthouse part reminds me of the one in Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate. The murder mystery and Chapel Rock would have been neat to have kept in.

Coming across Scarecrow with a bucket of blood is such a horrifying idea. Kind of feels like LA Noire but Batman. I wish we got something like that, adapted into the final game. Clearing out the Asylum and solving cases while doing so sounds incredible.
The detective side of the Arkham games have always been some of my favorite stuff. We all know Batman can fight, but the detective stuff is what actually made me actually feel like Batman when playing these games. So I actually do wish the detective stuff was added into Asylum. Also, I feel like if they reworked it right, it would’ve added a lot to the horror side of the game

Rocksteady can and should use their improved fortune into the redevelopment of the Arkham Asylum original/cut content and side quest plots. It sounds incredible and doable. I'd love to see Bats upgrading his armour, wearing the armoured costume, the original map, building layouts, collectables and detective side quests. AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Tbh, it wouldn't surprise me if there was limitations involved, so some things had to be scrapped. With the tech they have now, I bet they could, if they remade the game, reinclude a lot of these.
I just replayed this game and although the game looks quite old now, the atmosphere is still so strong. From the voice actors to the soundtrack and the creepy environment. Everything is just so well done.
I remember being 7 years old and being genuinely spooked during the first scarecrow sequence. I opened the door into the morgue, heard whispers, and said 'fuck this' and walked back out.
I feel so lucky to be able to play these games as they released. I was 12 years old when the game came out and had no expectations going into it. Turned out to be one of the most legendary games of all time
I just love how this dude's every conclusion, delivered via a relentlessly monotone and dismal vocal affect, is something to the effect of, "That's okay." or "Oh well." 😅👏👏

My opinion, Arkham Asylum was still quite the scary game for me the first time playing it through, especially the first Scarecrow mission where I was walking around endlessly in the morgue trying to figure out what to do, and not understanding why Batmans eye were red...it had a horror movie feel to it
7:53 seems like it could have been used to depict a story of armadaious Arkham psychopathic outburst. But I don’t know if there’s a story already in the game to what this is depicting.
I hate horror games but there is something so nostalgic when it comes to the horror in Arkham Asylum, I don’t know if it’s the colours or the intimacy that sets it apart, but it’s absolutely amazing.

Rocksteady can and should use their improved fortune into the redevelopment of the Arkham Asylum original/cut content and side quest plots. It sounds incredible and doable. I'd love to see Bats upgrading his armour, wearing the armoured costume, the original map, building layouts, collectables and detective side quests.

Tbh, it wouldn't surprise me if there was limitations involved, so some things had to be scrapped. With the tech they have now, I bet they could, if they remade the game, reinclude a lot of these.

Really sucks we couldn’t play with the armored suit though out the story itself and even worse we didn’t get it as DLC in any of the later games
I just replayed this game and although the game looks quite old now, the atmosphere is still so strong. From the voice actors to the soundtrack and the creepy environment. Everything is just so well done.
I remember being 7 years old and being genuinely spooked during the first scarecrow sequence. I opened the door into the morgue, heard whispers, and said 'fuck this' and walked back out.
The stand in voice actor for Batman sounds like Bob from Bobs burgers doing a Batman impression 😂😂
I feel so lucky to be able to play these games as they released. I was 12 years old when the game came out and had no expectations going into it. Turned out to be one of the most legendary games of all time

My opinion, Arkham Asylum was still quite the scary game for me the first time playing it through, especially the first Scarecrow mission where I was walking around endlessly in the morgue trying to figure out what to do, and not understanding why Batmans eye were red...it had a horror movie feel to it

I hate horror games but there is something so nostalgic when it comes to the horror in Arkham Asylum, I don’t know if it’s the colours or the intimacy that sets it apart, but it’s absolutely amazing.
