At the start of this video, Is praying Dylan understands the phrase "original engine" especially as you have the build sheet. A tip: Remove/loosen that alternator belt before trying to spin the motor. Why are you removing a hood by yourself? ASMR - put up the underhood cleaning video at real-time speed. We motor heads love that stuff.
Putting the bolts back in their holes is a good tip. I do that with screws when I work on guitars. At least one of them always gets lost, never to be found again.

That little ceramic rectangle with 2 wires attached to it on the firewall is a ballast resister. Blow that and you are f*cked. When I drove 70's chrysler products I kept 2 or 3 of those in the glove compartment along with a screwdriver.
@@DylanMcCoolVideo I had a '78 winnebago class c with a dodge 1 ton chassis. LA block 360 and an automatic. Only replaced 2 resistors when I owned it but I remember my dad's trans-van with the same chassis. That thing ate resistors like a kid ate potato chips.
"tiny radiator... but it did the job" Every Chrysler product i've owned from the 70s had overheating issues with a stock motor and needed an upgraded radiator.
Hey Dylan I am really enjoying the videos. Sometimes I find going through the backing plates and loosening the adjuster wheel helpful when removing stubborn brake drums

Awesome job Dylan. Meticulous approach wins the race. Great vision. I’m seeing this video for the first time, all of them so I won’t skip forward. Thanks for the stoke! Budlight
Glad you're saving this car. I'm wondering if the cylinders on the 318 are rusted or grooved.
Dylan, I admire what you do with these old Mopars, but I do have a request for ya. Take one of them and do a complete restoration. I know it may take a while, but it just may be worth it.
Maybe a truck one day.
Him touching the paper with all those spiders right there gave me goosebumps and almost made me throw up
I really enjoy this kind of videos 😊😊😊 even I don't understand the half,eventually I will😉
Kerosene in the cylinders will break loose an engine
You can also use compressed air on your compression gauge extension to force the oil kero, atf, mmo etc mix into the cracks and crevices to help break things loose.
Diesel fuel will do the same
@@denmann364 Well diesel and kerosene are essentially the same
To be honest if I were to rebuild that 318 I'd turn it into a 330 stroker
Den Mann Yes sir. Diesel and transmission fluid mix will do wonders.
Feel your pain. Picked up a 413 RB with an NP-540, and the Cylinder walls are rusted. Also the NP-540 was done after sitting for years full of water.
When you lifted the hood it sounded like an avalanche lol. Awesome vid bud keep it up
You don''t play around my brother! Outstanding video! LOVE your MoPar addiction. Got one myself. Thanks so much for your efforts, your genuineness and pleasant nature. You're a joy to watch!
I have been waiting for this video!!! I can't wait to see the progress!!
Maybe you ought to make that 318 into a 390 stroker!
To be honest I don't know why TH-cam brought me here , awesome work thanks for sharing looking forward to your updates !
It's shot, BUT we can fix it... BUT we aren't going too... LOL... Love the video...
Putting the bolts back in their holes is a good tip. I do that with screws when I work on guitars. At least one of them always gets lost, never to be found again.
Dr. McCool breathing new life into old Mopars!
Yes the rings being welded to the cylinder walls is a common problem. I have had it happen to 3 engines , 2 440's and a 318 .
My gosh I’m this channel makes me so happy!
6:17 "Spooky" 🤣 , i saw many years ago some animated show where the spider with big eye's did exactly the same face while peeking behind house radiator
You can replace virtually any body panel and suspension and drive train part on these E bodies.
Wow! I really like watching your builds. I have a 1963 Lincoln Continental in the USA. I am out of the country right now. I was traveling the world. Covid 19 hit and I am in Thailand. No worries I love it here and it is super safe. Man I wish you would help me with my car. If I were there I would definitely send in my project.
Nice challenger man, cant wait to get my 70 going.
Love it!
Arctic Blue, three speed 318 just like my 71 Long box Dodge, and a rear defroster just like my former 74 Challenger.
That little ceramic rectangle with 2 wires attached to it on the firewall is a ballast resister. Blow that and you are f*cked. When I drove 70's chrysler products I kept 2 or 3 of those in the glove compartment along with a screwdriver.
Never had a ton of issues out of ballasts. That being said, this car won't have one with an upgraded ignition.
You can buy resistance wire now that drops a volt per inch of wire-3 inches of wire = 9 volts etc. Doesn't shake to bits like a ballast resistor.
When he mentioned that he had a 360 I hoped he would use it. I'm really glad he did. I had a Dodge Ram Charger with the 360.
"tiny radiator... but it did the job"
Every Chrysler product i've owned from the 70s had overheating issues with a stock motor and needed an upgraded radiator.
Most of chevys problems now 😂
I'm always in awe of guys that really know their stuff.
Im interested in what caused that engine to basically become unusable.
Abandonment or season, who knows
Such a great find , an icon and with an original motor ,would love to see a tear down on that engine to see if its just stuck !
Hey this Chris ive been watching your videos for awhile and I was curious if your willing to sell the dodge after you repair it
One of the few channels I do not skip through!
Awesome work as usual . 👍🏻
Nice engine, it's almost a crying shame to bolt it to a 3 speed! ;)
WHAT A NICE FIND ! I MISSED THE FIRST VIDEO DUE TO ABSENT MINDEDNESS .
HOWEVER I DID GO BACK REVIEW IT AND LIKED IT AS WELL !
GOD BLESS AND GODSPEED
"I even have a 360 I may con--" Yes.
Hey Dylan I am really enjoying the videos. Sometimes I find going through the backing plates and loosening the adjuster wheel helpful when removing stubborn brake drums
You deserve more subs
Sweet ride bro, I bet the 360 will be a very good powerplant. You'll need a good stereo for it, I'm glad you have the sponsor you have.
You just put Super Soul out of a job with that speaker. 🔊.😬
This is my first time ever seeing factory exhaust on a 318 challenger. Its amazing they ever achieved anything over 120hp on those little tiny tubes and collectors. Lol. Would be awesome to see a warmed up 340 in that find of yours :)
I'm laughing so hard from that clip I actually thought he was driving😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm happy to see that the Mustang is still around. I enjoy your channel and I came here from Junkyard Digs and Thunderhead289 so I'm a Ford guy like them but you do great work and I am happy to see these cars saved.
Good ol' mopar
