I have watched them all several times over the last several months and still think this guy should have won. Go-Go has great chops but Andrew stood out as having a true understanding of the V-Drum kit and took advantage of it's capabilities in a polished way. All of the other drummers had problems operating the electronics... not a great showcase for an electronic drum maker.
very tasteful use of the octapad for programming a live playback (intro). so far ive only noticed other contestants use it for synths and live effects while relying primarily on the cymbal pads for the layer synth (space) effect. i think a continuous groove would have done the trick for this performance bridging everything together seamlessly even with tempo changes etc. still solid overall though
And of course illustrates what this particular instrument can do... they are in the business of selling V-Drum kits after all. I just think Andrew did a better job showing off the capabilities of the electronic kit. I agree changing kits so often would be silly in a concert setting but these guys have very little time to show their ideas to the judges... i doubt any of them would do this in the studio or on stage.
Not a big fan of V drums. Only when they are programmed to simulate acoustic wood drums. I'm so much quicker at movement around the V drum though. Everything just comes to be so much more faster and easier to do. Love the stick rebound on Tom and snare. Killer!!
Who says a drummer shouldn't be doing that? The drumset wouldn't even exist if that mindset had been embraced back when the only thing a drummer played was a snare in an orchestra. Nonsense. The electronic kit is a different instument just like the keyboard is different than a piano. I'm sure there are pianists that insist that keyboard players shouldn't be playing strings or horn sections but that would limit almost all music created today. This is about expanding the idea of what a drummer is.
@RobertFreemanMusic Nonsense. This whole V-Drums contest is a joke. This is not about drumming, it's about fiddling around with a sampler and doing stupid shit that a drummer shouldn't be doing at all. V-Drums are great, when used the way they should be used. Not changing kits and samples every two measures.
This guy is really good!!
As melhores baterias são as Roland.

Was the last part a standard td-20 feature? I can't find anything like that in my td-12...
and he spent 30 seconds on 808 setting! how do you pass that with such ease?
i want to know the settings for his octapad sound!!!
Wow,he was Buddy Rich and the horns at the end.

Five stars performance, Andrew, very creative playing. However, the sticks, hair, movement and gravity thing needs some rethinking.
@jamesthegreat999 for sure.
