Hi Jen, Here is the Riddick stuff: Films: "Pitch Black" 2000, "The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury" (Anime film) 2004, "The Chronicles of Riddick" 2004, "Riddick" 2013, Games: The Chronicles of Riddick: "Escape from Butcher Bay", The Chronicles of Riddick: "Assault on Dark Athena".
Also make sure to watch Pith Black: Dark Fury before watching "the Chronicles of Riddick". And if you like all the Riddick movies, the game Escape from Butchers Bay is an amazing video game prequel with the last time Johns brought Riddick to a prison. Fantastic game. Stream and I shall watch
Multiple viewings later, I never noticed this until now: at the beginning when they're crash landing and the pilot wants to jettison the passengers, she mutters, "I'm not going to die for them." Pretty cool how that ties to her words with Riddick at the end. (It had me reciting, "Not for me!")
----- @thedoctor4327 ----- - Then you will by thrilled to know that the 4th installment is in the works... I'm really looking forward to it whenever that might be. They should just take their time with it and not half-ass it, like has been done with so many other sequels. -----

Most people first remember Vin Diesel from the Fast and the Furious, this was the first movie I remember actually seeing him in. To me, he'll always be Riddick!
First film i saw Vin is was saving private ryan this was the second ive never seen the fast movies i don't see the point of them or why they have made 9 of them.

This movie is filled with Role Reversals. I believe I heard the director or someone talking about it in either the commentary or a behind the scenes clip on the dvd. The Merc, Riddick, the Pilot, Jack, ect...
To me Vin Diesel will forever be Riddick, he was born for this role 😎 “How do I get eyez like that?” “Gotta kill a few people, get sent to a max where you don’t see daylight”
Now that you've seen Pitch Black, you got to see dark Fury. It picks up where this left off but it's an anime. It also helps transition into Chronicles of Riddick. I think you'd appreciate the art style.
the fact that you recognized Keith David as Captain Anderson from Mass Effect is actually pretty amusing. I'd seen him in lots of stuff but it wasn't until I got big into Mass Effect that I started remembering the shows and movies he was in. :)
This was one of my father and my favorite movies , I went to see it with him and he enjoyed the hell out of it. My father is not with me anymore, so it holds a special place in my heart. Also Riddick is such a bad ass character, who is more complicated than he lets on. You get more of his backstory in follow up movies. My favorite line is when he is forced to kill one of the creatures when Jack is in trouble. "Did not know who it was fucking with". It is one of the top ten badass lines in movies. Also Keith David, Claudia Black. Cole Houser, Radha Mitchell. It a stack cast
Classic. Great cast (Keith David's a legend, Claudia Black too amongst older sci-fi fans). On my first watch, the character arcs reminded me of Aliens. Few films are compared kindly to Aliens in my head. Pitch Black is most definitely one of them.
@@-M0LE "Farscape" for four seasons and a TV movie before SG-1. It takes about a season-and-a-half for the show to find its footing, but once it does, it just keeps getting better and better. It ended far too soon.
Farscape really hooked me towards the end of season 1 and from there on, is an insane ride not to be missed by fans of the genre. Top tier sci-fi. Claudia Black is also known for her VA work in games like Dragon Age, Uncharted and she joined her Pitch Black co-star, Keith David, in Mass Effect (2 & 3). Edit - Stargate fans may recognise Farscape's lead actor as Claudia wasn't alone when she joined SG1.
@@-M0LE If you watch Farscape, and I highly recommend you do, maybe rewatch the 200th episode of SG1. Amongst all the references to other shows, there's a a little 'homage' to farscape.
Before I had spine surgery, I was double-jointed in… a lot of places. But at the time, I could clasp my hands behind my back, and while clapping them, I could touch my elbows while my hands were still clasped.. I honestly forgot that this franchise could survive.
This is one of those movies that becomes an instant classic as soon as it's released. Hard to believe it's almost a quarter of a century since its debut!
This is a great series. Pitch Black released as just that title, the Chronicles of Riddick part was added after the next film and when they decided it could be a franchise. There are 4 films in the Chronicles currently with rumours of a fifth in early development. The next film is called Dark Fury and is an animated feature that tells the story between this film and the next live action which is Chronicles of Riddick. That film is much of a grand space opera style. Then finally you have Riddick which narrows the story back down again. There was also a great couple of video games for the first Xbox and later consoles/PC. Telling the story of Riddick in the Butcher Bay max security prison. Escape From Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena.
This version of Ridick is the most bad ass. I just love how unapologetically he is for being a murderer, and he was straight up about to leave them at the very end. Like it that’s his character obviously we wouldn’t think he would do that but ultimately he’s a fucking convict.
Such a great movie! Low budget small promotion but still made it to become a Riddick franchise! Now that's a movie series! I really hope you watch the rest of the series. The action gets even better with a bigger budget and bigger actors! Jen you always have the best sci-fi movies on your channel and I'm a big fan!!❤ Looking forward to your next movie! Luv ya Jen ❤️💛
Really cool movie. Radha Mitchell was everywhere in the 1990s-2000s. I was pleasantly surprised to see her become kind of a mainstream star, because early on she was more known as an indie actor. Her character's death gave this sci-fi horror movie a surprisingly emotional punch. The 2nd movie, "The Chronicles of Riddick" is probably my favorite because it is just so audacious. They went WAY deep with the lore and the universe-building in that one. The third movie was a retread of the first movie, but just as well done, so there is something for everyone in this series. Finally, there was a video game that was part of The Chronicles of Riddick, called "Escape from Butcher Bay", and it was shockingly good. Not only as a game, but as an exploration of Riddick's backstory. I really hope it gets a remaster for modern consoles/PC.
The captain shouts not to touch the handle before the crash, then gets impaled and repeats the shouted line with more feeling. "Don't you touch that handle!"
He wasn't going to leave them and he was trying to talk her into leaving them to test her, to see if she's changed from what she tried to do in the beginning.
Claudia Black(the woman who was torn in half) has been in several sci-fi series (Stargate & Farscape spring to mind) She plays a Quarian admiral in Mass Effect and she voiced Morrigan in the Dragon Age games as well.
He was personally very invested in at least the other two. Don't know if he was part of the production in this one or only one of the actors yet, but the other two are his own pet projects.
Before you watch the second movie 'The Chronicles of Riddick', there's an animated film 'Dark Fury' that links pt1 and pt2! There's also 2 outstanding X-Box games 'Escape From Butcher Bay', and 'Assault on Dark Athena'.

Don't know if it's true, but I heard that they wanted to cut the double shoulder dislocation for some reason. Since Vin Diesel actually did that and it wasn't CG, he told them it was going no matter what they said
It was a sleeper hit, to be sure, grossing over twice its 23 Million Budget and eventually becoming sort of a cult classic. It was also Vin Diesels' first leading role. It has two Sequels, both also directed by David Twohy: "The Chronicles of Riddick" (which is more of a Space Opera, greatly expanding this Universe) and "Riddick" (which is more of a Horror-Film similar to the Original). I'm very excited! This was my introduction to Vin Diesel, Anti-Heros, and what would become one of my favorite sci-fi universes (once you throw in the other movies, anime, and video game adaptions).
Fantastic sci-fi on an indie budget. Great performances all around, but Vin's gravely narration is really chilling and sets the tone for the 'Riddickverse' going forward. If you can find it, check out the animated midquel Dark Fury, which bridges Pitch Black to Chronicles of Riddick.
1 - I love that this check recognized Cpt Anderson's voice from ME. He's done a shit ton of roles (like in cult classic "They Live!") but his best was as Elroy Patashnik in Community 2 - I was definitely bummed out that they killed Officer Aeryn Sun so early. Too early.
Riddick is one of my favorite sci-fi characters ever. Chronicles of Riddick gets a lot of criticism, and to be fair some of the dialogue is a bit "action movie-ish", but the world building is amazing and he's such a great character. If you react to that one, I'm 100% in!
More is revealed about who and what Riddick is later on. The film's universe folds outward like a map. Fans got to salivate over his superior survalist tendencies, even if the sequels don't match the potent punch of the original.
To be so old and yet see someone so young enjoy and feel these films like I once did. Warms my heart. :) This one is still recent to me. Wrath of Khan is the one you broke me on. Which is like 20 years later.
Love this movie, it was filmed in my home state of South Australia in the desert just outside a town called Coober Pedy where a large portion of the population lives in underground homes. Very interesting place to visit, just don't visit during summer...
For the escape scene, Vin actually dislocated his shoulders for that scene. Everything you seen was the real deal even him grabbing the torch as he fell.
Yeah, absolutely not. Do you have any idea how painful and debilitating a dislocated shoulder would be? He'd have his arm in a sling for a week, and spend a month or so in physiotherapy, chugging painkillers like popcorn. And both arms together? No chance.
I love the color shift in this film when the yellow sun sets, and the blue dwarf dominates. Something I can't recall seeing before and it really struck me when I watched it in the theatre.
1.1K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️ Notes: Hmm. Yes, please finish the set! I saw this one at the local movie theater, and the one with the British Dame from "As Time Goes By" and the DC "James Bond OO7" movies, but not the others! 😎👍
Great sci-fi horror movie. Thank you Jen Murray for the reaction . It's one of Vin Diesel best movies. Part 2 is worth the watch too. Peace fellow Canuck!
There is an excellent, although now hard to find, video game prequel called "Assault on Dark Athena." I think the only real way to play it these days is to buy an old X-Box or PS3 disc copy to play it on. Vin did the voices in it and it's very much a labor of love for him.
13:03 He's also Childs in John Carpenter's The Thing and Spawn from Spawn, and Goliath in Gargoyles as well as Frank in They Live. All of which you should see.
There are two more movies, one anime movie and two games, and everything is sooo good! 1. game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay 2. game The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena 3. movie Pitch Black 4. anime Dark fury 5. movie The Chronicles of Riddick 6. movie Riddick
You earned yourself a Subscriber in me 😊 for this franchise. It's criminally underrated, ESPECIALLY to Vin Diesel himself. He completely forgot about the "RIDDICK" character. I Personally prefer The Chronicles of RIDDICK franchise over the F&F Franchise

And who can forget Vin Diesel as Riddick this was my first introduction to him such a powerhouse action figure here and watching his change of heart at the end made me want to jump up and cheer .
In the darkening hours of Halloween season it makes perfect sense to watch this SCI FI /horror thriller👺 😉
glad to have caught this as always looking forward to more reactions from you JEN
TAKE CARE
CHEERS .😊🙏
I have to chime in a second time
Yes yes grateful for this community here to share their love of movies 📽🎬
So hope to post some of my own material as well .
On a side note it may be odd to share this but i realize i just removed a ❤ i got when i edited my own comment 🤨
Bloody hell no one tells me these things lol !
I will not do this again as now i know and i am grateful i got a ❤ from you Jen .
Thank you for your wonderful reactions😃❤
In this movie we know nothing who this Riddick is. The Chronicles of Riddick movies shed a light on that. Recommended you check them out.
Keep everything until your inventory is full..... A true gamer i see lol
“SNATCHED!” One of the best things GS about Jen videos is the single word reactions to action scenes. 🤣
Honestly I think Vin looked his best in this film.
5:15 "Is he a human?"
Fun fact, Vin Diesel actually dislocated his shoulders and popped them back into place for that scene.
Comic/Gaming this review is SO perfect, this is GREAT!!
I'm very excited! This was my introduction to Vin Diesel, Anti-Heros, and what would become one of my favorite sci-fi universes (once you throw in the other movies, anime, and video game adaptions).
Also my introduction to Keith David, Radha Mitchell, and Claudia Black who have since become some of my favorite actors in other media as well.
15:41 Epic JenMurray reaction lol
13:06 and the brunette lady is Morrigan from Dragon Age :)
Vin's first big movie, as far as I know. I love this one!
Also, my wife is okay with my crush on Claudia Black.
1 - I love that this check recognized Cpt Anderson's voice from ME. He's done a shit ton of roles (like in cult classic "They Live!") but his best was as Elroy Patashnik in Community
2 - I was definitely bummed out that they killed Officer Aeryn Sun so early. Too early.
I saw this in the theater, and the visuals were incredible.
This didn't start the anti-hero genre, where the "good guy" is a bad guy with a sliver of a conscience, but it stands out for me as a prime example.
Riddick is one of my favorite sci-fi characters ever. Chronicles of Riddick gets a lot of criticism, and to be fair some of the dialogue is a bit "action movie-ish", but the world building is amazing and he's such a great character. If you react to that one, I'm 100% in!
"Not for me" hits me every time.
Sometimes I still wonder...if it ever was Riddick who'd stabbed Her in the back.
More is revealed about who and what Riddick is later on. The film's universe folds outward like a map. Fans got to salivate over his superior survalist tendencies, even if the sequels don't match the potent punch of the original.
Yes please, more Riddick! Saw this in the cinema and had a lasting impression.
No chance.
Thanks for tackling this, Jen. I liked this in the theater and a çouple of times since.
My band in college wrote & played a horror-prog tune based on this flick.
Yay! I've been waiting for this one.
Always appreciate a Mass Effect reference. The Riddick series is a lot of fun
I love the color shift in this film when the yellow sun sets, and the blue dwarf dominates.
Something I can't recall seeing before and it really struck me when I watched it in the theatre.
1.1K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️
Notes: Hmm.
Yes to more Riddick movies.
There is a cartoon movie bwtn this & the next one. It's called Dark Fury & it does have his voice with the 2 that went on the ship.
1. game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
2. game The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
3. movie Pitch Black
4. anime Dark fury
5. movie The Chronicles of Riddick
6. movie Riddick
Yes Jen I would love to see you react to the other Riddick movies, also I love your shirt.
yes, more please
Hey Hey there Jen Murray. Had a perfect time watching you react to the jump-scares. Hope you have a perfect weekend. 😉👌
Luv Claudia Black! I haven't seen her too much outside of Farscape.
Yeah, I mostly know her from voice acting since then (although I know she's done some shows and movies; just not that I've watched).
