I have turned on shared (Built-in parameter) in nested families and loaded into host family.
Now, I don't want shared to be on in nested families. If I just turn off shared in the nested family and reload it to the host, it couldn't allows.
So, do we have any other way or plugin or Dynamo script to do this?

I have one for you. Is there a way to make a parameter not copy over? Example, I have a trapeze with a custom sequence number. If someone copies that trapeze, I now have multiple trapeze with the same number. Thanks!

How do you create the actual shared parameter text file? There is no information anywhere I've looked on this!

So, I am trying to redo some of our company's families, specifically the doors. And we had a bunch of old shared parameters and a bunch named funky, with incorrect grouping. So, in question 1, I renamed some of the shared parameters. They look fine in the Shared Parameters file and within the door family, but when I bring in the Door into a Revit project/template, the names go back to the original names and categorize them likewise. So, are these housed somewhere within the project/template I cannot see? It was rather frustrating because I purged all the doors and cleaned up all the schedules. Is there a way to create a custom "Parameter Group" within the Family Type dialog? ie Construction / Materials and Finishes ..etc?

From my humble experience, you need to:
      1. create new shared parameter file,
      2. delete all the doors and families
      3. switch to new shared parameter file in current project
      4. edit your families with new shared parameter (delete old parameters, add new ones)
      5. load edited families into current project

f@#$ me! Coming from Archicad , this looks like a looooot of clicks. So if you already have a lot of families in your project, you actually need to open all of them to just add the shared parameter, and then select all of them and add a value. Then modify the label to allow to read that parameter. A bit convoluted in my opinion. Its offers a lot of granular control indeed, but my gosh its a process.

its like coding, you basic can create the item class, then you define the class. the shared parameter is pre-set up parameter, for this project, make it "public" to readable. if the parameter only existing in family, means private

there are 20minute videos about shared parameters that do not achieve what this 8 minute video does.
