Wonderful aerial perspective of Steamer Lane. I've never been there but seen several other videos of this mythic spot. Nice soothing music on a nice surfing day. Thank you. 😊
Man, it is really soothing and spectacular to watch the location of Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz with the piano soundtrack going along with it.
Awesome footage and great background music that totally fits. Love it!
Gorgeous! Thank you for creating this and sharing it with us!
Just AWESOME video Eric! My grandparents had vacation home in SC when I was a kid, so I spent alot of time on Cowell's Beach & watching the surfers from West Cliff Drive. I'm sending this video to all of my family.
Wow! Totally amazed by your production. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing video and soundtrack, i could watching for 100 times/day
This video shows off that tech and skill beautifully. nicely done.
I remember surfing Steamer on slow, lazy but big (6-7') winter surf, having never surfed anything bigger than 5' at the most. The waves barely broke, but the biggest fear I had was of slamming into the cliff.
Amazing work, Eric.
My favorite section of coastline on Earth.
This looks like a typical Midsummer day with no weather out at sea at all. You can see the coastal are out there that probably burned off around noon. I heard it said, when a butterfly flies over the Pacific Steamers Lane swells. This is just a pleasant Surfable day. I'm still looking for winter time video when it's huge
Amazing footage!
Beautiful place to use the technology!
Really nice! It looks awesome!
Well Done!! Thank you Eric.
Incredible.
The Phantom (and Naza-powered multirotors) auto-levels when the left stick is centered, so it's pretty easy. Flying mostly FPV with LOS for landing.
Really enjoyed the video, Eric. I thought the Photoshelter Webinar today was a great introduction to this area of photography for us who are yet uninitiated. Thanks again and keep the copters dry!!
Gimbal is definitely involved. They are like magic. :)
so stoked to surf here when I get better
Hopefully you live in the same zip code, its not a real charitable crowd
I like the way you managed to follow the surfers
Muito bem feito o filme. Bonito.passa uma emoção muito agradável.
Nice job!!!!!!!!!
its beach on the other side is a great wedge break for bodyboarders
My kid attends UCSC. Love SC
pretty cool stuff
indeed
Beautiful! Can you get some aerial footage of dolphins or whales? That would be great!
Hi Eric, just watched the webanar. You may want to chek out the XP2 from XProHeli. They have a gimbal that you can actually use in different GoPro configuratiuons (with a BlurFix and ND filter, or Battery bacpac). But more exciting is they are about finished with a Gimbal for the NEX-5R that can be lifted by the XP2 quad. Very small, and it travels well. There are links in almost all of my videos in my "Aerial Video" playlist. It's quite the stable platform, and with plenty of power. Cheers!
I've seen such comparisons. I'm experimenting with Ragecams lens replacements, which might be great for a Hero3+.
Thanks, Chad. I'll take a look!
sounds very interesting with the Nex 5R, small and high quality is the way to go
More Eric Awesomeness...
great footage, how you liking the phantom so far?
My classmate mentioned he was gonna go surfing here. From what I remember, he called it "a cliff" where there are nice waves. Sir, that ain't just a fuckin "cliff".
I'm about to add XProHeli's new landing gear that helps a lot with balancing the gimbal and big batteries, and the lading gear breaks down so you can put the quad in your suitcase. Also I just got a Hero3+, and sadly in my latest Sharpness test between it and the Hero3, they have changed the focus to be oriented to the first 4' in front of the lens, so the stuff we shoot far away is less sharp. I have an A/B comparison. People are pissed! Surfers will be happy though...
Just got back..... man oh man oh man.......

Eric is teaching Aerial Imaging using Quad Copters at Anderson Ranch Arts Center this coming August 11-15. andersonranch.org/aerial-imaging-using-quadcopters-gopro-cameras-p1130
Eric,
Amazing video, wish more people did this kind of beautiful videos. Just bought myself the Phantom 3. What photo editor did you use? Thank you for sharing this.
i was there!
Hey Eric
I've been flying around with a tricopter I built and a brushless gopro gimbal and video downlink like the one you're using. I find it hard to fly it FPV since the camera is stabilized (I can't tell attitude of my heli). Are you flying FPV or are you looking at your helicopter line of sight? If you're flying FPV, how do you keep track of your attitude? Do you just fly on autolevel? Please repond thanks
You are really good at this, very impressive Eric! How do you fly backwards without getting a tilt on the video? Is the gimbal involved in that? Thanks!
do you know if xproheli will be selling the XP2 with the Nex-5R gimbal as a 'ready to fly' package? I'm a one person setup in the UK looking for something not too expensive to begin with that can deliver high quality stills and video.
Thank you, Patrick. This video sparked a 2-minute ABC (local) piece about drones that was 100% positive, which was a great thing. Link to video is here: skypixel.org/post/59238071185
It's best if you can get the job done with as small a rig as possible. I've done some TV work, as well as my buddy, and they don't like having to pay 2 person teams to run a big octo with a 2nd operator for the gimbal. Not that that isn't the most awesome way to go! I'm just saying they appreciate people who can travel light and get the aircraft into small spaces.
Whats the Magic Bullet Presets did you on this video?
Great video, do you have a set up video on the radio? how did you modify the radio?
