  • We ate Nasi Lemak for the first time here in Malaysia!
Nasi Lemak is pretty much a national dish in Malaysia and after this video I can see why the Malaysian people love it so much.
We first tried a classic Nasi Lemak, I had Nasi Lemak Biasa with just a boiled egg and Alicia had Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng with a juicy piece of fresh fried chicken.
The rice was incredible and the sambal was so good.
It was also extremely affordable mine was 2.7 RM and Alicia's was 6 RM.
We then went to a different location in Malaysia to eat another Nasi Lemak.
This time we went for more toppings, I had Nasi Lemak with beef rendang and sambal sotong (squid) whereas Alicia had chicken rendang and sambal udang (prawns) 7RM each.
This Nasi Lemak spot was super interesting because they wrapped the coconut rice in a thin omelette before serving.
The food was actually that good I had to order another nasi lemak but with quail eggs for 5 RM.
Malaysia's national dish is definitely worth the hype, Nasi Lemak is delicious 🇲🇾

YES!! IF YOU WANT AN AUTHENTIC TRADITIONAL MALAY DISH EAST COAST IS WHERE YOU MUST GO! MOST OF THE SOUTH AND WEST COAST OF THE PENINSULA ALSO HAVE TRADITIONAL MALAY DISH BUT MOST OF IT ALREADY BEEN FUSION BECAUSE WEST COAST WAS THE CENTER FOR MIGRATION FROM ALL OVER ASIA AND THE WORLD, BUT EAST COAST IS VERY PURE AND HAVE LESS INFLUENCED FROM OTHER IMMIGRANT CULTURE AND FOOD, SO YOU CAN GET A LOT MORE AUTHENTIC MALAY DISH IN THE EAST COAST AND IT WILL BLOW YOUR MINDS ON HOW DIFFERENT IT IS FROM THE WEST COAST EVEN THOU IT IS ON THE SAME PENINSULA.

In the east coast, you should try the Nasi Dagang, which is a rice dish (the type of rice used is different from nasi lemak) served traditionally with fish curry and Acar (pickled vegetable and fruits such as cucumber, pineapple and onions, this version of Acar is light and refreshing unlike another version known as Nyonya Acar, which has peanut and spicy sauce).
Food places in Malaysia are pretty innovative to try to differentiate themselves from each other. The second Nasi Lemak you guys had was done in ‘Nasi Pattaya’-style (Nasi Pattaya is fried rice wrapped in an omelette, pretty popular at Warungs/ stalls in Malaysia)
There’s also Sata Ikan, a kind of fish paste snack wrapped in leaves cooked over fire. And of course, Keropok, another fish paste snack deep-fried- the thin version is crispy, the thicker version (Keropok Lekor) has a more chewy bite. Both serve with mainly chilly sauce and you probably can find them at stalls that serve banana fritters (Pisang Goreng)
The reason many of the food in Kelantan, Trengganu and Pahang is fish-based- The east coast of Peninsula Malaysia has many fishermen and businesses based on fish and seafood products.

The best nasi lemak that I've ever had was at the Nadi Kota bus station in Bandar Pusat Jengka back in 1995 - 1997...the sambal was so good that people were always asking for extra sambal...in the end she'll just give extra sambal in a separate small bowl to go whenever you ate at her stall. We left BPJ in late 1997 and never been back since. Hope that the old lady made it in life. InsyaAllah.
