How generous of you to make this vid just for ME, and to share it with others 🤩! I've been feeling intimidated AND overwhelmed by the prospect of "Learning To Draw." I have watched your sketch-with-Liz vids but I will endeavor to actually sketch along next time. Happy Arty New Year everyone🎉
Really enjoyed the video, having dabbled a bit in past, I did decide this year to commit more to it so resonates with me. Meeting up with my local sketching group for the first time soon, scary. Lots to learn I’ll be checking out your other vids !
Like your super tips. Especially the security ones. I’ve sketched mostly in the doctors, people waiting, plants, even radiators! On the Rhine I’ve sketched a canoe, signs, people in various attire & positions. When returning to it I’m amazed at how like a diary it is bringing back memories. And, although I will look for a group I’ve found one who had an exhibition that I visited lovely artists were there too. And, to anyone “afraid” to go alone if you’ve no one just go, people don’t stare, they carry on walking or living their lives. That’s’ been my experience I hope it’ll continue. Thanks
Hullo Liz, I do enjoy your videos, and you’re so encouraging to everyone who wants to get out there and brave the wind weather and all elements! This is not for me anymore. I did some plein air painting in my past, and I am glad it is in my past. I would much rather work in the studio where I can be warm and snug or cool and cozy in the summer. Please keep creating making these urban, sketching videos look like a breeze, but I know they are not! You are truly an inspiration for all, thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for sharing the participants’ sketches - really stunning work! I’ve avoided sketching with Liz as I don’t have social media accounts and nowhere to post my work. But I think this has inspired me to participate anyway - I do want to start urban sketching in real time.
Fantastic Liz! Thank you for sharing. I've been on-again/off-again with urban sketching, mostly through self-judgment (of course). Yet I love what I see. I haven't quite established my artistic priorities for 2025, but I'll definitely consider joining the ranks. Be well! ❤❤❤
Sketching the Eiffel Tower from your hotel window is good, or some street cafetiere 2 miles away. Also very close up in the early morning, just the rusty bolts and iron work look good. Scape off some old flakes of paint and glue them in your sketch book, no one will notice them missing.
I sometimes, especially in cool weather, sketch while sitting in my car. I sketch in a small town in France and there’s places where I can park with the town in front of me.
Thanks for this video, Liz I’m excited to try this out with you. I don’t often sketch outside. At my age I am much more of a studio painter and my studio. I mean my kitchen. But I do like to do little quick sketches when I am on vacation with children and grandchildren. Even if it’s in a confined areaand they are my audience. Thanks for all you do.‼️
@@LizChadertonStudiocreating something out nothing , with no help , 😉 is art , drawing is freedom . I have nothing against light boxes but the artists who using them and then claiming they draw it by hand . And people fall for it . Artist is a word that is being used then in the wrong way , it should be colorist or hobbyist.
I disagree! Venomously! I worked as a freelancer for the majority of my life and I took EVERY opportunity to shave time off of every job! The cost of projectors was a real hurdle for a lot of people. You speak of “real artists” can I create something freehand? Yep! I have been drawing for years. When you get money from others from the creation of your art and you are getting paid by the minute/hour you maximize your profits and time is a HUGE equation. A projector does make everything faster! The same can be said about tracing paper. Most of us “Artists” like to draw on paper that has a certain surface. Transferring your drawing to a canvas or other surface is TIME CONSUMING! A quick copy with tracing paper or a transfer paper like graphite or chalk papers just cut down the setup time. Which is key to making money to pay the rent etc. If you have all the time in the world, sure draw everything out, take your time. Do as you please, but don’t say others are “cheating” or anything negative about cutting corners or saving time. Pressure to produce results is not an easy wall to climb over! I am an Artist and NOTHING you say will make me less of one. No matter what tools or tricks I employ to create my art! Dilettante.
Thank you for the tips and encouraging videos! MÖLKKY caught my attention immediately :D Is it widely known in the UK or do you have Finnish friends or family who introduced you to the game?

I would be so happy if just one person starts to sketch because of this, so I hope it is YOU!
Me too.! Can’t wait to get started 🇨🇦🍁

they will be very welcoming, I’m sure!

I’ve always found non-artists are fascinated and artists are supportive. But I know until you’ve done it, it can be intimidating

I can freeze, so you don’t have to 😆

You don’t need to share, I just think it’s great to see how we all respond so differently. please do have a go!

for me it is an antidote to working in the studio. I think it makes me notice more and switch off from everyday concerns. I don’t do it enough!

I like that idea! Even better, paint it with your coffee for a scratch n sniff sketch….
Excellent video and very helpful - thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

you don’t have to suffer to urban sketch. sitting in a cosy coffee shop counts!
Artists that sketch are rare these days , most of them use projectors and that is not the way to go as a professional , so enjoying your videos❤
I’m not against using light boxes or other transfer methods, but nothing beats drawing!

Happy new year!
Thank you for the tips and encouraging videos! MÖLKKY caught my attention immediately :D Is it widely known in the UK or do you have Finnish friends or family who introduced you to the game?
I don’t think it is well known, British friends introduced us. But I was an au pair in Finland in 1982!
@LizChadertonStudio Oh, that's lovely!
Merci beaucoup, je peux maintenant vous suivre en français
Merci!
Sketch quirky things like Paris pigeons eating a quasant on the table next to you.
and stick the crumbs into your sketch book too!
