    One interaction I think is kind of cool is that the Orc Warmask is counted as an item, which means that Orc Wizards can use their Warmask as their Arcane Bond.

    If I recall correctly, on Golarion a number of dragons nest in the mountains surrounding the Hold of Belkzen, the largest orc nation in the Inner Sea region. That might explain the connection to dragons- one or more clans might have struck up arrangements with them.

  • @Colemaic13

    The orc-drake connection. There's a group of orcs in paizo's setting that ride drakes (or dragons, idr which) into battle. O forget where I read it but I remember it was super cool!

    Agree on the flexible ancestry boost - currently playing an orc barbarian with the inventor free archetype. There’s a lot of flavouring here, but she wields a chainsaw! Which happily explains the giant instinct clumsiness and damage etc. But the fact that orcs can be strong and smart is so cool (point of order though - Eberron did this way back when).

    I like the idea of getting bonuses when you have conditions (reminds me of the Guild Wars 2 Necromancer). You could have an archetype based around taking on the suffering of others and getting bonuses in return (I had a GW2 necro that did this).

    Just gonna get all my random thoughts out on one comment: I guess I’m one of those weird people that did flavor over function by going Rainfall Orc in Strength of Thousands. I really wish Orc Superstition didn’t have the concentrate trait so my barb could take it. Barbs do have the Come and Get Me feat that give you a positive for inflicting a negative condition on yourself. Finally, I hope they add more specific, flavorful feats that tie into the PF lore like the riding drake feat or Demonblood Frenzy. Great video!

    • @sexyanimeguy
      @sexyanimeguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are gateway tools for GMs to control what kind of content is present in their game. Anything considered Common is available from the get-go to any player or character. Uncommon options typically might involve a discussion with your GM, some sort of in-game buy-in (such a Feat or Ancestry/Heritage/Background/Place of Origin granting Access; which, as a note, doesn't prevent someone from taking it, only giving those players with Access a means to essentially ignore the Rarity trait). And Rare (and Unique) are those options that 100% need GM approval if it's at 1st Lvl OR is only granted by the GM as a result of actual play.
      More or less how it works at a base mechanical level. You are correct in that it also represents things in the game's setting. But there are actual rules applications to them.

    Orcs having some type of resistance to Magic is just bringing attention to their very physical nature and past. They were also considered stupid enough that they never heavily studied Magic, and its use was rare.
    I don't see how Orcs are in anyway diverse. All of their feats relate in some way to combat or survival. They are a martial heavy Ancestry. I also hate that Orcs just have Strength and a Free boost when Iruxi get the normal 2 fixed, 1 free and a Flaw in Intelligence. Orcs don't have an intelligence Flaw but the Iruxi do? Which is also stupid as they have several feats that actually deal with intellect. They have a feat that helps them take advantage of the surrounding area and several feats dedicated to Astrology and using the Stars.
    I also hate the Orc art, mostly. Mwangi has the worst art I've seen of Orcs, because I thought they were just Humans they painted green until I looked closer and saw the little Bulldog teeth barely peaking out of their mouths.
    Orcs are one of my least liked Ancestries in Pathfinder. Their art is more all over the place than Troll art, their feats are pretty much just a single area of combat and not dying, and are overall far to uninteresting. They're basically just Humans with a focus on combat. It's how they look and how they act.

    I'm probably an outlier here: I don't like orcs as pcs. I don't like goblin, hobgoblin, or tiefling pcs. (With the exception of running an evil or otherwise specialized campaign). I like the old-school fantasy reality of evil races. By DND lore EVERY TIEFLING is a sleeper agent for Asmodeus. You have free will to spread the tiefling taint until the day that Asmodeus initiates his plan. It makes no sense that a non-evil setting would just let them walk around. Orcs worship a pantheon of war gods. Goblins/hobgoblins... Need I say more? By making all of these playable and PRACTICAL to play (they aren't run out of town on sight) you dilude the complexity of the setting.
    Not saying that you can't. Just talking about my feelings lol.
