The Purge has a really interesting backstory. The writer/director came up with the idea after his wife got really pissed in traffic one day and said, "What if everyone was allowed one legal murder a year?" She felt really terrible after that, because she's a super nice person and never gets angry like that. But naturally, her husband (James DeMonaco) took the idea and ran with it. The film was super low budget, since he was a complete unknown at the time. Blumhouse was also still just an indie film studio. This is why it's a home invasion movie and barely explores the purge at all. Ethan Hawke agreed to star for a very low salary, because he was friends with DeMonaco. Having that kind of star power gave the film more credibility and drew in bigger audiences. Since the film was a surprise hit, the next movie was able to have a much larger budget and actually go out into the purge world. And as we know, it turned into a whole franchise. Oh, and Ethan Hawke also took a cut of the profits from this film since he was getting such a small salary, so it ended up being his most lucrative role ever!

I'm afraid to say this but Dylan now you have to watch the whole Purge saga. Maybe is not a well-constructed universe but each movie has some interesting elements once you check them out. I personally liked The Purge: Election Year a lot.
y'know what I always thought about this concept? They have a day to do whatever crime they want, with no repercussions. But crimes aren't always solved the day of, so they could just all get arrested the day after cuz they commit a crime that's illegal there, regardless of the day it was performed on. Otherwise, somebody's excuse for murdering someone could be "no I did it on purge day" so long as there's no evidence it wasn't. They say all crime is legal on this day, but they never said that the crimes are just forgotten about afterwards, so technically they could all just be arrested the next day. With this in mind, this could've been the first purge as a new concept idea to the public, but it could end with them eradicating everyone who performed to make the community "safer" since they got rid of everyone who would willingly commit murder when given the opportunity.
To ensure there's still a country the next day, imagine bombing the entire country. The rich are comfortably protected and anyone that can afford a good anti-purge security system. But it you bomb everything you risk killing skilled workers like doctors and you cripple the country. You gotta have some rules. You also can't kill upper-level politicians cause you need someone to run the country the next day.

Cause he’s poor
@@ImaginarySandra Because Disney took all his money? 😁
@@NoxyRae EXACTLY! Disney is the reason Dylan will die in The Purge! 😭
The purge in Wisconsin would literally be nothing. Worst case scenario, some liquor is stolen.
Avery Hargrove
Lmao, same thing in Minnesota. Most are too polite here it would just be nonstop apologizing.
maybe even a few more drunk drivers than normal
here in colorado itd be just a few more underage stoners smoking on rooftops
No wait hunting on other people’s land 🤣
I literally forgot aNY of the states in these replies existed-
Man, those expensive "security systems" don't really do shit. They can literally be torn down in a minute.
Yeah that is another flaw......i thought there would be atleast some rinforced concrete room or basement something.
I would hit up Barnes and Noble during the purge
Same. Like if someone tries to stop me from getting free books, *I ain't the one getting murdered.*
Dawnielle Heath felt that
Same or hot topic
The bank
Pet Smart
Dylan's basically financing Disney at this point.
Hello fellow Ravenclaw (with the proper house picture)
As a 16 year old, I thought the villain was super attractive.
As a 21 year old, I still think he’s super attractive.
But not as attractive as you, Dylan. Never
Me too
Ikr. And his eyesss
Creepy attractive I guess. Lol
watching scary movies with dylan is the only way i can power thru them😭
"I want death!"
(Gets death)
"That's a bit much"
‘I don’t trust this dude, he was growlin before it was weird’ My new favourite thing you’ve ever said
The purge: “hey, over here, we’re gonna kill a bunch of people”
Dylan: “why the hell they have tow bottles of ketchup on their fridge?”
i swear the only time i can watch scary movies is with dylan. he just makes everything funny-
my sexual orientation is Dylan recognising that crime is a symptom of socioeconomic struggle, not some innate human desire for violence ❤️
Aside from rapes, child abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse
There is also homophobia and transphobic related beatings and murders
Robin Preston true. And homophobia and transphobia are socioeconomic phenomena - ie people are taught to hate trans and gay people, it’s not a natural thing.
Robin Preston all of those crimes are products of environment, and they are far more common when poverty is involved.
entertain7us14 pedophiles and rapists can come from all walks of life. Brock Turner was a wealthy white boy, Ted Bundy was a well off man, plenty of pedophiles and human traffickers are wealthy beyond your imagination.
movie: kills innocent people for no reason
Dylan: bUt ArE tHeY iNsUrEd??
Only thing people will think about after purge is insurance.
Can immigrants come "illegally" into the states during the purge?
and i oop
If they want to be shot at by the 'Patriots' sure they can...
my thoughts exactly
@Verynn But all crime is legal ? Wdym
@Verynn lol
The most heartbreaking part about this movie is that even after all the pain they’ve put him through the homeless guy still wants them to give him up to save their family
He’s too nice 😔
Girlfriend: I love you
Boyfriend: Rawr XD
Eliza Jane Goodrich I once dated a guy who had a tick or something that caused him to literally say rawr like all the time. It was so weird
use me as a 'dylan should watch the rest of the purge series' button
I want to like it but this number is a happy number and idfk what I'm typing
The second one is the best. The third one isn't bad either
YES! the second and third movies were the best ones
I know right Dylan would love the 1st purge movie
i also really like the purge series on amazon
The purge with a Disney logo in front of it. I can't handle this😂
“It seems like Dallas had the most participates..”
Me who lives in Dallas: 👁👄👁 I’m now scared for life.
Yeah no Texas is the worst place to be during the purge. Have you seen the Forever Purge?
- I want someone dead in the first three minutes
*3 minutes later*
- Can we slow down with the murder?!!!
Okay, but imagine if The Purge was really a Disney film lol
We might just get to see Iron man kill Snow-white
They'll be so many people breaking out into song lol
That would be scary
The killer starts singing about killing the family
@@bananawal8215 Tony would never XD
“She can’t relax she’s got the night king after her”
“yea get that workout Cersei. Ya gotta conquer Westeros later”
💀😂🖤
Get yourself a significant other who is gonna love you the way Dylan loves his GoT jokes
dont forget "he's gonna kill his wife...and claim the iron throne for himself"
“I was actually legitimately excited to see this family get eradicated. Not in like a dark way...” gotta love Dylan’s commentary
5:50
Dylan’s outburst about the 2 bottles of ketchup is pure gold. 😂
And the Title is amazing “The Purge is a mess (just like my life)” tastefully self deprecating 👏😌.
Also, he needs to watch the rest of them. Anarchy and Election year. 😤
I'm afraid to say this but Dylan now you have to watch the whole Purge saga.
Maybe is not a well-constructed universe but each movie has some interesting elements once you check them out. I personally liked The Purge: Election Year a lot.
The first purge is super sexy
The Purge Anarchy is my favorite out of the four of them, I actually really like these movies :’)
He should do the purge tv show as well, I really liked it
I think the first movie is the worse of em all
Rebe Draws Stuff yesssssssssssssss
"you needed a new nose anyways, Karen" LMAOOO GIRL I-
y'know what I always thought about this concept?
Aha that'd be a dick move, government.
I love how the say, “Weapons Class4 and lower are authorized-“ then all these other rules. Then they immediately say, “All crime is legal.”
LoweLyfe XO Did you not get the joke here? It’s ironic that they have a bunch of laws set into place on the one night a year where all crime is legal.
15. Fifteen references to Game of thrones:
Westeros
Night king
Iron throne
Ned Stark
The Starks
Mention of the "shame walk"
Mention of the "Lannister twincest"
And 8x Cersei
I expected more
Lena Oertel the “dont touch me ur bot my brother” too 😂😂😂
love watching 2 hour long movies through you in 30 minutes bc i don't have the attention span for them and i don't ACTUALLY want to see them, but through your video i kind of get the general gist. plus you're really entertaining, so thank you!
So you don't like movies but you like movies.
Yeah this way I don’t have to watch shitty movies I can just watch Dylan watching the movie hahaha
I'd just be hittin' up all the clothing stores. I've been needing a new wardrobe for a while.
Dylan:no I trust this dude
(Guy walks out of frame one second later)
Dylan: I don’t trust this dude no
"We still have the arm" 😂 I love those fake scenarios Dylan comes up with
He needs to make a movie xD
It’s Purge night. There are better things to do than play with a yo-yo 😂
It’s so unbelievable that the parents told the password to the children… like I would never tell my family any of my passwords to even my iPod, let alone a security system.
never felt so proud as to be apart of the early trouble makers gang 😭
dylan uploading makes me so happy its insane
I didn't expect Screamosaurus at the end but it was a good suprise! 😂
“You got to hide in the ceiling” perfect spot Dylan
6:28 'imagine he just smashes her head into the table'
me: 'well SOMEONE gets their head smashed into the table later'
When you're too scared to watch the movie yourself, so you watch Dylan watch it instead 😂
Legit same!
So scary is the movie I don’t know why is it in the genre horror? 🙈
The purge has such first world class view over what really motivates most crimes committed
Exactly, it's acting like they're having a blowout sale for crime, it's not a luxury
if you watch the movies you will see they explain that its not poverty what motivates crime, the killers are the rich people. The last movie shows how the politicians use the system to randomly kill poor people, the motivation is just money and politics.
Dylan in every movie he watches: "What if he/she kills him/her? Can we please have that?"
Dylan during the first 3 minutes of this movie: "Can we slow down with the murder please?"
“Are you stabbing Casear?” Omg I LOST IT HAHAHHAHAHAHA
An alternative Dylan cut could have been Screamosaurus wheezing over the clip of the boyfriend growling
I thought the movie was decent until the end. I was like you have to move because they could always try to kill you next year dummy. But also at the beginning, I thought the cookies were poisoned. They focused on the cookies too much.
they did focus on the cookies too much lol
@@claire3203 it was a misdirect
Imagine being at home, filing tax returns so you can get money back, then doing fake wounds and such and pretending to be dead if you hear people and using fake blood all around you.
As someone who does special fx makeup..I'll trick em all.
my plan too, i would do slices all over my neck face and arms. with my sfx and acting skills combined im all set
