    As a long time Hog fan I think A&M has made a great hire. It will be interesting to see how the nextt several years pan out. I watched the Duke Clemson game earlier this year and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I thought that this is the guy A&M SHOULD HAVE as head coach not Dumbo. This will not do me any good as I root for Arkansas but I would personally rather see an old SWC foe beating Bama and LSU and AU since Arkansas is not likley to be doing this with any regularity.

    Money means nothing. You can buy the best players and have zero results.
    You can buy the best, with zero development, never buying in, leaving after a year, and staff falling a part.
    It comes down to recruiting the best, further developing them, and instilling a culture of toughness.

      For top recruits. There is more competition from schools like bama and Georgia than there is from schools like Baylor or tech. A&M, Texas, and OU tend to dominate the landscape for prestige while the other in state schools must focus on connecting with the high school coaches association to create relationships with talent rich high schools.

    Well, I heard that Bjork told Stoops to name his price.
    Stoops came back and said, "I'm going to need about tree-fiddy."

    Aggies came out looking stupid on this. The AD comes off as an ass. How much did A and M have to fork over to Stoops for going back on the offer? Or did it get that far? I am sure it really put Stoops in an awkward position with Kentucky. Lucky they didn’t tell him you want to leave…..go ahead! What a circus AGGIE LAND has going on.

    • @Mark-rw3kw
      @Mark-rw3kw 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A&M did NOT retract an offer to Stoops. That is just fiction because fans are embarrassed that Stoops turned down the job. It was widely reported by credible media (who gets multiple verification from those actually involved) that Stoops spent they afternoon and evening talking to his assistants (and the families) and not enough assistants wanted to move to college station, and Stoops knows that at at UK his assistants have been the key to his success, especially on offense. If A&M retracted an offer, then no coach would ever talk to them again about an opening in the future. The list of coaches to be offered in order of preference was approved in advance above the level of AD (President and Chancellor of A&M, and maybe the Board), and they don't have time to approve each new person they talk to. Notice that the Elko deal was done very soon after Stoops declined, because Elko was next on the pre-approved list. Not a lot of people have mentioned this, but the Stoops family is not well-liked in Texas due to his brother Bob being head coach at OU previously.

      @@Mark-rw3kw thanks. Hard to believe that being a brother to Bob Stoops is held against him. I could understand Texas or some school that had a recent history of playing against A And M. College football has become all about the money.

      @Mark-rw3kw 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kevinr5187 I am not really sure how much aggies hate the Stoops family, since as you mentioned, OU left the Big 12 awhile ago. But OU typically got a lot of recruits from Texas high schools, so they competed in the recruiting wars. In 2020 of the 118-member active roster for OU, 49 were from Texas and 26 players were from Oklahoma. Also, even though A&M has not played Texas since leaving the Big 12, they obviously have not lost their hatred of the Longhorns. But as I stated, once Stoops turned down the job, he was sentenced to purgatory by the Aggies for that sin alone.

    Aggies are delusional. UK beat 10th ranked Louisville last week, and Duke has fallen off the last half of the season in the ACC. That is why Stoops was ranked before Elko. The aggies just won't admit that Stoops turned down the job. Stoops did say no, because he could not get enough assistants to go with him. The fact that aggies are so delusional is one of the reasons why so many coaches (Oregon, Washington, UK, and others) turned down the job. Not only are aggies delusional, they have no integrity and make up stuff that isn't true.
