    Am I the only one that was stressed out watching her cut the pages out with scissors without looking at the front?😂

      I was the same I did think that she could see shadow through but that didn't make me feel any better tho to be fair I wouldn't trust myself cutting it even with the right side facing me lol

    I am making a board book for my son and this was helpful! I use gray bookboard 50pt. And I use glossy vinyl sticker paper instead of having to use glue for each page. But I likes how you demonstrated the binding aspect of it.

    honestly, i love tedious tasks too! when i show people projects i have made with lots of tedious work, they always say "wow, you are so patient!" but honestly i just enjoy repeative and tedious tasks bc i can kind of just relax and turn my mind off. i don't have to think too hard about it bc it's just the same thing over and over :)
    so excited for the rest of this video tho! :D

    When you add glue to both sides of the book board it will not warp because they will dry evenly on each side.

    If you want to be even more smart about cutting paper and board, I highly suggest and ergonomic rotary cutter for fabric. It's shockingly nice to use. Highly recommend! Just don't use your paper/board blades on fabric afterwards as they dull in a way that makes it hard to cut fabric with.

    • @TiffanyWeng
      @TiffanyWeng  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Woah!! Is it strong enough to cut through board like this?

    • @MariahRayneArt
      @MariahRayneArt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TiffanyWeng I always found it took 1-3 passes dependent on the paper/board. I used Illustration board so much in college but I also used it to cut my paper for my screen printing class when I had small stacks I needed cut. Used it for cardboard too for cosplay stuff. Main thing is having a big enough cutting board for it and not letting your ruler slip in between cuts. I quilt and sew so I just mark my older blades for "paper only" and save them for my paper and board cutting needs until they are too dull then I dispose of them in my sharps jar. 😊

    It's kinda a stupid idea but you could try adding an elastic that keeps the book closed? Like the kind that are attached to the left- side bottom and top of the inside back cover? I don't know if that would help keep the book closed but it might make the shape look a lil different

  • @nokiot9
    @nokiot9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also- you need to use a solvent based glue or a non water based one. Try scotch create if you don’t like fumes. It won’t effect the paper or board.

    If you ever think of revisiting the big whaleshark book with the white museum board, you could try painting the sides of the pages, they seem thick enough in the video. Like, the edge of the book :)
    I loooooove the cute symbols in the background, I think it would look adorable continued on the edges~

    Ive been thinking about making a children's book for a while especially now that i have a 3 month old and this definitely inspired me to finally do it! I've started figuring out the words and soon I'll start the illustrations. Quick question though! What grit of sandpaper did you use? I've never thought to sand cardboard before

    I agree that a box cutter does make your life easier when cutting even something thin like paper but…. I can not stress enough that you NEED to be VERY CAREFUL. Box cutters (just like how you put it) have a big blade, they can go through a lot. Please please please be careful when cutting. Please. I can speak from experience… these things can harm you :( I accidentally cut myself back in December… and boy was it deep..

    Very nice! You've inspired me to give a board book a go. Have you thought about using a heavy-duty spray adhesive instead of regular clue? Might help with the warping on the museum board. Or has your prof advised against it?
