I am 69 and I have a chronic pain condition. I love fashion that was my first job. I bought a clothing rack and I put outfits from my closet on the rack and decide when I wake up that morning what I’m going to put together based on my mood and how well I’m feeling, most days I’m in bed and I stay home. I still want to look good ,you help me with good ideas.❤ I bought 2 pull on stretchy pants from quince that don’t wrinkle. I can sleep in them and still wake up and look good…. I have a very small classic wardrobe. It’s very organized. Great video.
Organization is so important, and thanks Alyssa, for mentioning it here! I have found that organizing my closets (one spring/summer and the other fall/winter) by type of garment first and then by color has helped me a lot. I also bought a dressmakers mannequin based on my measurements and create outfits there at the beginning of each season - and it helps me to see what goes with what - I try to prepare what I’m wearing for the next day on my dressmaker mannequin so it’s ready to go in the morning - I’m not always successful of course! I try things on once at the beginning of the season to see if they fit because I hate trying clothes on all the time, and that works for me. Love your videos! ❤
May I ask where you found your mannequin? My proportions are so unbalanced (very narrow shoulders/wider hips & bigger butt/healthy weight) that I can only contend with hanging things on a hook. I am slowly getting into sewing and designing my own clothes: a mannequin would be glorious help. Thank you. Love your ideas.
@@karonmalingo5798 I’m not the OP, but I had this issue trying to find a dressform in my size. (My butt is disproportionately larger than the rest of me). I purchased a dressform from The Shop Company (it’s a website. Not sure if we can posting links in ok or not. If you Google, it’ll come up). They are pricy, but top quality. I purchased a size that matched my smallest measurement which happens to be my bust. From there, I purchased a Dress Form Padding system that allows you to pad the areas of the dress form that need to be bigger so it matches your measurements. Worked out really well for me. There are also adjustable dress forms that may work depending on your measurements. Hope this helps.
Just completed a SERIOUS closet edit and have organized it all! Donated over 200 lbs of clothing to people who deserve to wear these items since I wasn't wearing them. Working towards "winter capsule." Not difficult since I love everything Fall & Winter. Your videos are truly inspirational! Much ❤️ appreciation from Wyoming 🇺🇸
I have found myself a new way to shop my closets (which are very well organized.) I watch the youtube chanel: Milan on Trend (Italian streetstyle very inspirational for older woman) and Stockholm street style. What I like I put down in a shortlist and in my mind I shop my closet for simular looks. It is a very uplifting process this way to spend your freetime and save some money. Then I try it on in real life and evaluate what I liked and was functional , specially the shoes and how more possibilities there are. And that also I write down. This way it is a real joy to get dressed and wearing clothes and accessories you did not wear for years. I am 76 years old and life in the Amsterdam region and have a deep connection to my clothes and accessoiries and I wear them for decades. Each one has a story and so a gem.
After watching your channel for 4 years, I finally attended a Shop Your Closet event last Spring. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I couldn’t believe how much I learned about myself and my own style. Over time, I found that my creativity and confidence in putting together outfits had grown significantly. Since then, I’ve been waiting eagerly for the next Shop your Closet. Thank you so much for what you do! You’re the best!
Your point about putting your stuff back away is paramount! In the space I live in, this is the ONLY option. I really try to think ahead too, about what outfits I'm going to wear for which occasion. I use my mood board almost everyday!! I was recently able to identify my three words: Classic, Feminine, Relaxed. I always look forward to your videos! 😊- Michelle
❤ I love your practical and non-prescriptive approach to style. That last point, “thinking on your feet” is one I could use more practice on, I so enjoy the elements of style videos where you interpret looks based on your closet.
Been waiting for your next shop your closet online session - grabbed my ticket already! Love what you do, thank you for everything - you have helped make my own style so much better over the past three or four years, ever since I first found you. My style doesn't look like yours and it goes to show just how much what you teach can be applied to everyone, no matter their style, colour palette, age, size or where they live! Thank you, from the UK!
With constant weather changes, I find I need to check the weather in the evening, for the next day! And I, too, like to wear nice clothes during the day, it makes me feel better. Have a pain and fatigue condition, it is always “ look good, feel good”.

Just found you on TH-cam and am binge watching your videos. I’m so grateful for your content! Thank you! I would love a video about where to find good quality basics like the sweater you’re wearing. 💖
Getting your clothes organized can truly transform your mornings! I always make it a habit to pick out my outfit the night before. It not only saves me precious minutes but also adds a touch of ease to the start of my day. Plus, there’s something satisfying about knowing I’m ready to tackle whatever comes my way!
I have a large walk in closet and NEED to do this. I am working on taking a bag of donations to the local charity bi-weekly. My closet is mostly organized by type, then color and I have a section on a separate wall for the in season items organized by type then color. I really need to put it away 🙄 though. I know I will really benefit from getting my closet in shape. Thank you for your patient lessons Can’t wait for Decembers live! PS. I remember when I was teaching that I got out the weeks outfits on Sunday. Really helped me find the accessories before a hectic morning.
Thinking on my feet was a big one for me. Many times I would do all the things you mentioned, planned my outfit the day before, but morning of, for one reason or another, I wasn’t happy with the look. Many times what I think my vibe will be that day ends up being different morning-of based on mood, sleep, weather changes, plan changes, etc. Sometimes the same outfit I loved on Sunday, I hate on Monday 😂 Thinking on my feet has allowed me to tweak outfits or come up with quick ones that match the changes I didn’t anticipate.
I wished you would have expand on your last point, like how can you solve the problem of replacing a turtle neck by a hoodie as in your example. Maybe this could be a topic of a futur video.
Excellent... Loved this! Looking at something from a different angle makes solving any problem easier, especially when we apply methods we've already had success with in other areas. Thank you so much for sharing this helpful approach, Alyssa.

Great specifics on how to achieve a functional closet! Superficially my rail looks organized but you explained why I still struggle to find an outfit. Possibly with speakers on for the news or music. Great system - set up conveniently by the closet.
This was a helpful video. What is the best way to hang wool trousers? I recently purchased clip hangers to hang them but is it better to hang them folded to keep their crease?
I would fold my trousers to the crease and then clip them upside down from the hem. That way they kept the crease crisp and didn't get the fold mark at the knees.

Hi Alyssa! I wonder what happens to the clothing after the models/actors have worn the clothing on set? What do you do with the clothes and can they be put up for sale?
It depends on the production company! For shoots it’s usually returned , sometimes the talent keeps an item or two, for tv other production companies hang onto it and do a big discounted sale at the end of the season… it really depends on the source too!
My closet is weird. It consists of sliding doors along the upstairs hallway. The floor has the runs from heat and air. It's been difficult trying to organize or make the space look attractive.

I’m not going to lie, I understand where you’re coming from with the “taking a safe driving course thing is kind of performative” thing. However, at least in New York State, there is a driving course called “Alive At 25“ that the DA will have you take if you get a ticket for speeding or texting. That course changed my life. Sadly, you do actually watch a lot of people die because of irresponsible driving. It’s pretty graphic- all real security or dash cam videos from police officers or different individuals, and it shows real examples of what reckless/distracted driving can result in.
