    Every year during storm season a nest is blown from the tree in our backyard. We contacted a bird rescue about and they said not only is it ok to put the babies back in the nest, you can also make them a fake nest if theirs is destroyed. We used a plastic coffee can with some grass, leaves, and twigs, fixed it as high as we could in the tree, put the babies in it, and within a couple hours the parents are back and everyone is fine. Birds still use the coffee can nest and they don't seem to get blown out of that one

    I used to dog train professionally. The idiom/saying, “can’t teach an old dog new tricks” was a thorn in my side. I would have to explain you can teach an old dog new tricks but if it’s a learned behavior it just takes a bit longer to break the old habit and establish the new habit. Sometimes there is a customer that just won’t let sleeping dogs lie and pushes back…then we (dog trainers) have our work cut out for us.
    I am SO glad y’all are back to it; missed y’all’s videos! ❤

    The story I got about gum was that if you swallow it it wraps around your heart. Even as a child I knew that the stomach and the heart weren't connected, and it (along with Santa) taught me to be sceptical of what I was told. Especially by parents, they're the worst.

      We are atheists, but we celebrate all holidays without religious connotations. We did the Santa stuff for a few years. Finally, at 9 we decided to tel, our 2 boys the truth. When my son was born I resolved never to lie to him, always to tell the truth or what I believed to be the truth. Santa, however you wrap him up in tinsel and childlike wonder, is a lie, so I told him the truth when he asked. My proudest moment was when he came out of his school in December of his prep year, 5 years old, angry that when he told the other kids that Santa wasn't real they wouldn't believe him. Since then he has grown up intelligent, rational, and making up his own mind what is truth or lie, and all those other kids know that he was right.

    Another reason for Napoleon's height error is that the French foot and inch that was in use at the time are slightly larger than what we use today. So, his height when recorded by French standards would have been perceived by the English as being shorter than he actually was.

    One reason people wait 24 hours to report a missing person is because some cops tell people that. Whether its because some cops are ignorant or lazy is unknown, but some do say that. Some cops will act immediately and like you said, some people are saved by quick acting cops and sometimes people are lost and it is unknown if things would've been different if the cop wasn't lazy or ignorant.

    My favorite sense that is rarely mentioned is proprioception. It is the sense of self location and or movement. Touching your nose with your eyes closed is an example.

    • @jodyharnish9104
      @jodyharnish9104 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Typing and playing a musical instrument use proprioception, too.

    • @gaijininja
      @gaijininja ปีที่แล้ว +7

      And an easy way to tell if you have any form of degenerative brain disorder is to close your eyes, hold your arm down your side, raise it to the side up to shoulder height, then bring your hand around to touch your nose. If you miss, more so on multiple tries, your proprioception is on it’s way out, and is sometimes an early sign of dementia.

      I know you wrote your comment months ago, but I wanted to add that this proprioception you mention is what great athletes possess in spades. Magic Johnson was once asked how he was able to be such a great "no-look" passer of the basketball. He said that not only did he have a great sense of where his body was on the court, but he also felt like there was a "string" stretched between his body and each of the bodies of the other players running down the court with him as he dribbled. He said he "felt" those strings getting shorter or longer as the people around him moved relative to his position. So only sometimes did he actually have to find them with his vision before being able to pass the ball to them at just the right moment. I myself was not a great shooter of the basketball, but I heard gasps when without looking I dotted someone right in their hands with the ball . I knew exactly what Magic was talking about, so I've remembered his comment for several decades now. I didn't know there was a term for this sense, so, thanks!

    In many cultures, the word apple could be used for many kinds of fruit. The old English word meant any fruit. I think it might not have been a mistranslation but translated in that context. On a side note, the French word for potato is Pomme de Terre.

      I forget where, I think its in Norway somewhere, but there is a body of water or an estuary, that gets struck by lightning sometimes hundreds of times a day. Surely any structure there must have been hit thousands of times over the years.

    13:23 The black-garb of hooded ninjas actually began in Japanese theater. Often, minimal staging and black curtains used. A ninja was to blend in with the surroundings (dressed as anyone else would if he "working" at a dock, a market, an office, etc) so if a ninja were in the script, they garb them in all black: the actor would then be unnoticed, unseen, until the ninja went into action. Filmmakers then lifted the ninja look directly from the stage.

    Adam and Eve's sin was a bit more specific: They ate off (of the fruit of) the tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil. But yeah, no actual mention of what the fruit was. There are actually many instances of this in the Bible where the translator was unsure of what mineral, gem, plant, etc was being referred to. So they picked a likely one and went with it.

    Must say the only one on the list I didn't know was false was about dogs panting.
    But the number one thing I have to keep telling people, "No, that's not true." Is the idea that people only use 10% (or 5 or 15) of their brain. This was never from any medical or scientific journal. It's from How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. If it were true, a stoke wouldn't be such a bad thing. We use all of our brain, just some parts more at some times, and other parts at others, bur we use all.of it.

    Two commonly seen in movies:
    1. Bombs are not deactivated by cutting a wire. They freeze them making them inoperative.
    2. On the phone, you don't need to keep someone talking for minutes to trace a number. It's traced in a few seconds.

    • @davestang5454
      @davestang5454 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't agree with either claim. #1 depends on the type of bomb and how it's wired. You really can cut an electrical wire on some bombs and disable them. I can prove it. #2 phone calls were not always traced so quickly in the past. Calls were traced by humans in the past, not computers. Taking up to 60 seconds to trace a call manually back in the 1960s, for instance, sound accurate.

    Actually rabbits aren't supposed to eat a lot of seeds, they can actually block their digestive system and cause GI stasis and fruit is only supposed to be given as a small treat. A rabbit diet should be around 80% hay with small portions of leafy greens and about a handful of nuggets daily though mine also have access to unlimited hay.
    But yeah, rabbits should only eat carrots as an occasional treat, though their favourite part is the green top. That said, mine prefer bananas, they get so excited when I give them a small chunk of banana! 😁

      As a carrot misconception it should be noted that eating carrots does not improve your eyesight. The eating of carrots was a ruse used by England to explain how their fighter pilots were able to have such success against the Nazi aircraft headed to England - "superior eyesight from a diet high in carrots" was a scam to protect the newly invented radar that gave the British pilots such an advantage.
