  • Huge inverted aquarium / Upside down fish tank (part 2). Finally we get round to moving the huge fish tank down to Lanchester garden centre & install it in the 3000 litre koi vat. The metal frame has been painted to protect it from rust and placed in the bottom of the vat then the tank placed upside down on it, From floor to the top is an incredible 90" tall or 7.5 ft and holds 318 litre of water. After just a few hours the fish are loving their new viewing tower with nice views instead of just the pond walls and a bit of sky.The great news is that the fish tank did not crack, leak or explode which means we could go even bigger in the future hopefully. Thanks to everyone for liking, subscribing & sharing.

    You could put quite a tall live plant inside it too, would get plenty of sunlight and make the fish feel a little more at home. that's what I'd try!

    • @blue2335
      @blue2335 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      i think a live plant inside would produce bubbles that would get trapped and accumulate at the top, slowly displacing the water in the column.

      if placed on concret it will be ok as the water puts a lot of down force on the peace water pushes it down do to no air i have made a few indoors upside down tanks and a fish tank tube from tank to tank same thing water level above line suck air out and water in add a water pump from one tank to the other will make the tube flow water from 1 tank to the other do to water leveling it self

    This is pretty cool, it;s funny to see how many people wig out about it, I mean, if you are going to wig out, then wig out about the correct thing to wig out about. FOR INSTANCE. LOL
    The PRESSURE : no need to wig out about this since the pressure is solely being absorbed by the Tank, a vacuum. at any given time this tank at a week spot ( has to be weaker than the pressure from the OUTSIDE will allow) a crack could develop and suddenly and catastrophically IMPLODE the Tank. This would send the fish falling into the pond and the danger would be in the falling glass. If they lucked out and did not get cut they would be fine.
    The pressure is on the OUTSIDE, not the inside, there is no difference in the water pressure in the tank than the water in the lower pond. the pressure on the outside of the tank is pretty massive from EVERY conceivable Angle including the top which would be the weight of the water that is 100% above the surface of the pond. so Ideally you would want a Tank that is not rectangle for maximum strength you would want a cylinder and a domed Top like a gigantic test tube. this way seams would be alleviated and the outer pressure would be more evenly distributed over the entire tank with less points of weakness.
    you can do a small version of this as an experiment in your house. get transparent glass , fill your kitchen sink, turn the glass on it's side so here is no air in it, set it upright without allowing air in it, hold he glass by the bottom and pull up, you will feel the weight of the water now, imagine the weight of that tank! you can set the glass on the bottom of the sink away from the drain and then drain the sink and the water will stay in the glass until the water goes below the rim of the glass.
    i thought the Bloating comment was petty funny. also the temperature of the fish, the fish won't go up there when it is too hot and the owner would know that it is too hot when he observed this. it would be time to take it down and start over perhaps or just a seasonal thing to display at the right times of the year. I would say on a coolness chart and one for spawning Ideas at least a solid 8.5 out of 10. you could do dramatic lighting. You could incorporate this design into a sculpture! The sculpture could have an external waterfall that rolls down the walls of the outside of the tank and also have the dramatic lighting! all kinds of ideas could be tried so it would never get boring. Cool Video! THANKS!

  • @sanclementeeric6278

    The problem is that fish will get trapped and won't know how to get out and will probably die. If you put a cap/canopy on the top, you can hide some of the air that should actually be there. Maybe make it a planter on top. You'll still get the same effect but may save some fish.

    Are the fish getting enough oxygen there? What if they are trapped there and unable to swim out of it ?

  • @kyidyl
    @kyidyl 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It works because the pressure inside of the tank is lowered as you suck out the air, but the pressure of 1atm remains on the water outside so the pressure-less cavern inside the upright tank becomes the path of least resistance for the water as the weight of the air pressure outside attempts to squish the water. So it's not that you're sucking it up, it's that the atmosphere is pushing the water down and away and after the air is removed from the tank, the pressure pushing down on the water inside the tank is less than the pressure outside and it no longer pushes back on the air on the water outside the tank.

    • @DramaticAquatics

  • @naumanjaved5927
    @naumanjaved5927 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    ...mate this isn't rocket science. Ever been doing the dishes, and there's a drinking glass submerged in water, if you try to lift it out bottom first, same thing happens.
    It's cuz for all intents and purposes, what you've made is an airtight container. It has no openings. However, if you remove the air from inside the container, it creates a small vacuum (empty space) that has to be filled in. So the water must take it's place.
    Try this maybe it'll help you understand how it works. Get a large syringe (no needle) and leave the plunger pushed in all the way as if you're about to fill it. Cover the end of the syringe with your finger, and pull back on the plunger. You'll feel it pull back.... and when you let go, it will move back to its original position on its own. It's because when you pull that plunger you're basically creating an empty space, and since you sealed the other end with your finger, air can't rush in to fill it... so the plunger is gonna be pushed back to its original place.
    So if you want to compare this to this inverted tank, think of the plunger as your water level. In the previous example, we started with no space (plunger all the way down) then sealed the syringe with our finger so nothing can get in, then pulled the plunger creating an empty space, which created pressure to pull the plunger back. In the case of this tank, you start with an empty sealed space full of air. Then you use a machine to remove the air. There is no way AIR can come back inside (unless you provide the air with an opening... like a pipe... this is why when the hoover is shut off, you MUST plug the end of the pipe with your thumb, or the air is simply gonna rush back inside and the water level will drop). So the only thing that can rush into this space to occupy it is the water.

    Circulate the water the same way you pulled the air out of the tank . Take a line to the top w a piece of styro and move the water around . The static pressure of displacing water with water(from a low point in pool, moving in either dirrection) would give little resistance . Load the column with happy snails to feed on algae .

      any fish tank upside down seems to work from research so you just need a smaller tank and raise it from the floor of yours!!

      make the top the bottom but if its the same height & open at the top you would need 25mm glass, cheers for watching!!

      If you had one of these with the top AND the bottom open, it wouldn't work. The level of water in it will not go any higher than the level of water in the pond.

      we stick a hosepipe up and let the air in and the water lowers nice and slowly!!
