Really enjoying the shorter videos. It's good to see more stuff from you more frequently and it's good to see projects broken up into digestible chunks.
"When I was younger I could get away with it".... That's the truest thing anybody has ever said. I'm 43.... it doesn't get any easier. My only unsolicited advice is get in shape, stay in shape, and don't ever stop. Only reason I can still do what I can do now. And the older you get the harder it is to get in shape to start with.
I much prefer the shorter, more frequent videos! The porch would certainly look good in white I think. Smart solution to build a retaining wall like that and very well executed. Greetings from Germany :)
I agree. The porch should be white to give it that little bit of pop it needs. Posting these shorter videos more frequently helps you out better cause TH-cam likes consistency. Love the videos so more videos are always a great thing. Stay safe out there.
All good ideas for the underside of the house. I like the enclosed with a door look best. You work so hard and make sense of some of the most awkward rooms and ceilings.
Oh, that was some heavy duty lifting, but it was well worth it, it looks so much better and safer and makes a storage area too. It's good having shorter but more frequent videos as well, nice to see your progress and how you're doing. 😊
I enjoy your videos in any format. If I may offer one little critique, I would have used gravel to backfill behind those timber so it would drain. That would extend the life of them a great deal longer. Aside from that, keep up the good work!
Another great job accomplished! In 🇬🇧 we call those railway 'ties' SLEEPERS. They are usually coated in tar by the railway companies and therefore will hopefully be there for Donkies years! 🎉
I feel ya, sir! I did yard work on Monday, just moving from area to area, no set in stone plan of attack, ended up being out there start to finish when I put my tools away - 6 hours!!! And I feel it! Fortunately, I got a couple of days of wind so I can rest up before I go at it again... oh, and... I'll be 64 in 3 weeks. Stay strong and keep moving, never stop moving, the minute you stop moving and sit down you're done! Your body says, "Okay, this is nice. I'm going to stay right here." and you never get up again! God bless you, sir!!!
I like the short projects. I don't have hours to just sit and watch videos even tho I want to. Love the cross-tie wall, and they would make a good step also, if it fits with the rest of the front of the house. Great storage area for out side toys, bikes or gardening things under there!. and yes the porch will look great white.
Selling or keeping the house, outside of sentimental value, should come down to what would you do with that extra cash? If you have higher interest debt it maybe helpful to pay that. If you don't have higher interest debt to pay down does the cash provide you the ability to finish other projects faster or allow you to focus on side work more? If selling the house allows you to finish the 9000 dollar house then i selfishly vote for that.
I agree with you. White paint at the addition and shorter videos is a definite winner. On a side note, I would of backfill with gravel instead of dirt, it compacts better, less settings over time and adequate drainage behind railroad ties so they'll last longer.
Re: question from last video. My thoughts are definitely grey paint not white for the siding. I'm not sure why you would want to highlight that corner at the expense of the rest of the house. I like things to flow and to look as seamless and intentional/connected as possible. Of course I would do the trim White 😊
I've been watching you for a while now, back before the brick house, back before you bought the Milwaukee circular saw, love. Are you able to say what state you're in? I get the feeling your in NC or TN. Nice to find another southeastern.
Just a note for the future: water/soil touching wood decays the wood and that's why wood retention walls fail much more quickly than stone/concrete walls. If you do still want to use wood next time I highly suggest having gravel beneath the wood itself (so water can drain under) as well as a gravel trench separating the wood from the soil. You keep the dirt out of the trench with a non woven water permeable fabric. I mean if you're doing all that work anyway might as well get as many years out of it as you can!
I know it's not permanent but it got it done quick with materials I had laying behind the house. I'm in a race of not running out of money before I finish the house.
Any thoughts on just extending the porch floor all the way across where it's a solid outdoor surface across that area? Smaller steps are always a little tricky for me, I'd personally prefer to step down onto a larger surface.
White is definitely the way to go with the porch. A little accent colour just ads a little more interest so it isn't just one grey mass. I would be selling. It's getting worse for landlords. Take out your equity and invest in something different 👍

Like the rocks he just broke up lol. I agree
I just realized I've been following your channels for 8 or 9 years. I remember you fixing this house the first time. Keep up the good work!
Me too! Crazy how time flies!!!!
When you were hammering the tie in place it brought back fond memories of the basement pillar. Lol
Agreed

My husband is 72 and still does hard work he never sits. He's clearing a property, tearing down an old garage and shed, right now!
I much prefer the shorter, more frequent videos!

No wonder you have a substantial following. You have good solutions and take care of your stuff. 👍
Short videos are good. Porch being white is great too.
I agree with white - it will make the house more interesting
I like your short videos. I learn so much from your videos! Whether you keep the house or sell it --it will be a charmer!
I too enjoy the shorter videos. Love that you let us know what you’re thinking about doing going forward.
The retaining wall looks nice and sturdy. Still like the short videos.
Oh, that was some heavy duty lifting, but it was well worth it, it looks so much better and safer and makes a storage area too. It's good having shorter but more frequent videos as well, nice to see your progress and how you're doing. 😊
Nutrition is a game changer.
Your short vids are more watchable for me.
It’s looking good. I’ll take any videos you want to post. 😊
Great video! Love the short stuff. Keep'er coming.
Extending the deck over with a step down on the front and side would look nice and connect the two spaces.
I enjoy your videos in any format.
If I may offer one little critique, I would have used gravel to backfill behind those timber so it would drain. That would extend the life of them a great deal longer. Aside from that, keep up the good work!
I did ,and nailed some polythene sheet to the back of the timber. The run off from the downpipe could probably use channeling away from that area too.
I understand but just trying to get it done quick, I'm in a tight spot paying for all of life's demands, so I'm just using what I have.
Absolutely cover the space under the porch!!

Great Video
I like the short format
Nice little project. Think grey is better for the siding. Just window trims are white like the rest of the house.

Nice ramble. Entertaining. 👍👍👍
bravo kardeşim çok güzel oldu 👏👏🇹🇷
Looking good.
Have you thought about putting bracing, from the posts to the bottom of the area, below the windows, help to keep the area from racking

Good video, right to the point!

wall looks great!
An ingenious retaining wall. I felt young until I was 49. It all starts with food.
Enjoyed from Texas!
Shorter videos are really cool.
looks great
Love the shorts, I feel you on the age thing. Been doing some strength training on my hour lunch breaks.

Very nice. Good job. 💪
If you closed in area under porch, it could be used to store lawn mower and stuff. Would be cheap and so helpful to tenant.
Great job with those RR ties. Ever thought about a slab of granite for the step?
Like you, when working somewhere, I bring my portable radio along. Old tech rules!
I like the radio, you mess with your phone too much trying to listen to stuff..You just turn on a radio, can't skip ads. You get what you get.
@@homemadehome5575I'm guessing it's a good idea to keep an ear out for weather reports in your neck of the woods.
Instead of steps an extension of the front deck (uncovered) would look great. Really like the shorter videos 👍
You could blend a porch extension that comes across to that side door.
For those wondering, the song is MIDNIGHT TOKYO by DOWNTOWN BINARY.
I'm liking these short videos too. I wish you'd lead off your videos with a quick "Here's what I'm gonna do and why".
I've been watching you for a while now, back before the brick house, back before you bought the Milwaukee circular saw, love. Are you able to say what state you're in? I get the feeling your in NC or TN. Nice to find another southeastern.
Nice good job, I wish I can do this too in Canada… very expensive housing in Toronto.
Such a nice home. It is due a little attention. The shorter videos are very good, as were your long ones. Next step in the adventure?
Instead of steps, fill in the corner of the house with a floor/deck at the same level as the concrete verandah and enclosed side room.
I like the short vid.

maybe extend the wooden porch deck across that whole dirt area?
Sell before the market drops . Also ,,,, wait and see how you feel in your 50`s .
I have a suggestion you could have burn the wood on the outside it takes a while to compose. For the retaining wall.
what happened to the other home you were fixing?
Any thoughts on just extending the porch floor all the way across where it's a solid outdoor surface across that area? Smaller steps are always a little tricky for me, I'd personally prefer to step down onto a larger surface.
I'm attempting to finish asap, doing anything extra keeps adding up.
@@homemadehome5575 yeah that's a job for new owners since it's sounds like you're leaning toward selling.

Whats the music called? Nice video btw
Morning from Mexico
Your comment showed up before the view even registered, impressive. Good morning and thanks for watching.
@@homemadehome5575 opinion on the election?
How'd you get your hands on those railroad ties?
Usually landscape supply places have them, gravel/mulch/sand etc type places. You could also call garden centers, nurseries.
What happened to the other house? Did you ever finish it? I do not see any new videos.
If you sell it, you could dump it all into a REIT and still get income out of it.
My phone oneplus Nord n100 speakers are nice with this music. What music is this is called.
Broadly the genre is Chill Electronica/EDM/Trance.
Daily intentional movement is ESSENTIAL! Lift heavy things get your steps and eat good food and you’ll feel great.
HMU if you have any questions!
Sell that bad boy.
😁👍🏼
Wonder happened to that hippy with long hair? Did the alien kidnap him and replaced him with a nice looking young man? LOL
I'm liking the shorter, more frequent, videos. I enjoy all your content, but the 30+ minute videos are difficult to watch in one sitting.
I hope to have the opportunity to work with you! Looking forward to receiving your email response!🥰
Rather see a concrete foundation support.
✨🏆✨
OK, I like the work ethic , but wouldn't this have been easier with some concrete? Forms might take a bit to build, but seems like less work.
Trim white, siding gray. You do need to paint the foundation and fix the windows, especially if you sell it. Welcome to getting old.
Luigi???
Not into short videos, just saying
I would sell and take the tax break. You do you but I sure would.
Give up all dairy for 90 days. Try it. ALL dairy. No milk, pizza, ice cream, cheese etc. Your body will transform itself. My bro works at a T clinic.
why you do not use machine ? that slow
So he has given up on the 9000 house, sad I put in a lot of time watching those videos.
This one needs less work to get it rented. I imagine the rents on this one will enable him to finish the $9k house and others waiting in line.
you could close in that space under the old porch but leave vapor exit gap at the top and use it for lawn mower storage or what ever
If you closed in area under porch, it could be used to store lawn mower and stuff. Would be cheap and so helpful to tenant.
