I saw these guys open for Boston in '77. To be honest, they could have headlined and no one would have complained. They were that good.

When opening for Boston back in the day, they were threatened by Boston's (then) manager to NEVER play the song 'Breath and Thunder' again or they would be kicked from the tour! I guess that Tom Scholz didn't like being blown off the stage nightly by StarCastle. Lol!

I am a long time fan and own ALL FOUR of their original albums on LP. Bought when they were brand new releases in the record stores! Also recorded them live with a hand held cassette recorder (mono) when they came to our local concert venue.
I am sorry that Oliver did not try to cover Herb's keyboard sounds closer, the clearer monophonic lines of Herb's Mini Moogs and vintage Hammond organ are so much cleaner. I heard this same thing when he played with YES a couple years ago...(sigh)

Can't help thinking that this band crashed because the critics said they were a Yes knock off. They were different then Yes much the same as Tom Petty & the Heart Breakers were different than the Byrds. There were similarities for sure, but Yes were trend setters much like Elvis and Robert Plant and we never hear criticism when people emulate these two.

66Biker their record label had a lot to do with it. Epic wanted them to do more of a pop rock or arena rock thing ala journey/foriener. when their 4th lp didn't sell the writing was on the wall. I'm sure there were other reasons but that was a big part of it. Many great bands only had a short run so these guys can still be very proud.

I definitely think Al L.'s vocals are better here than on the Alaska cd I have (from 98 or so), stronger. Sounds pretty similar to Terry Lutrell in fact. Oliver W. does an admirable job... the gtrs shining thru... Takes me back to May 77 seeing them in Roanoke VA*. (Light up another one!) A dvd release of this concert would be nice.
*Backing up Boston. Not sure how many knew their music, but they won the crowd over that night.

StarCastle was such a blatant rip off of Yes it's almost comical. Yes I bought their first two albums, and that was as far as I went. I suppose it's only fitting to have Rick's son Oliver in the band, but again I ask the question of why an American version of Yes?
