This happens a lot with Procol who are so good live. Try Kaleidoscope at the Isle of Wight Festival or AWSOP at Ledreborg with a symphony orchestra. Both brilliant. And I have just found the encore of Conquistador at Edmonton 2.... where the band & Gary are just of the scale!
I love this song! Gary is wonderful as always, and the band is exceptional! Gary's voice is as good as when he was young! He is also sexy and very good looking.
I loved Mark Brzezicki's playing with Procol Harum. Quite a different style than BJ Wilson on the original recordings but an incredibly delicate way of playing the drums to these tunes.
I was at this gig and this song lit up the evening - the guitar solo by Geoff Whitehorn was brilliant and naturally we loved seeing Gary Brooker singing & playing piano and hearing Matthew Fisher on Hammond. Matt Pegg (bassist) is son of Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull, and Matt has also played with both these bands. He jokes that he always finds at any venues that his Dad has played there before! The great drummer is Mark Brzezicki. (chiefly known for Big Country). BTW Gary had been to Buckingham Palace that very morning to receive his MBE and is wearing it on his (left) lapel.
John LaStrada your comment is quite rightly so! I felt the same way about Whitehorn but, because he stays true to the original music, he fits this band like a glove. Judging by Gary's reaction during Geoff's solos, he agrees.
I didn't like Geoff Whitehorn's lead guitar playing as a Procol Harum guitarist in the beginning but wow -- has he really stepped up to the plate in the last few years. He is quite excellent and on this track he really asserts himself as an original. Great solo. He has my respect. The entire band performance was tight and amazing. A truly magnificent song and enjoyable.
Geoff Whitehorn is excellent, I have some solo albums of him, he is one of my favorite guitar players ever ... along with Jan Akkerman and Andy Latimer ...
Geoff was brilliant at the first Edmonton (orchestral) Reunion (televised in Canada) - that was 1991 or 92 I think, so he has been great from the start with Procol. And added to the happy atmosphere at gigs and to the longevity of the band. Apart from If, Family, Cawler also great recordings here on YT with The Who (London & New York Quadrophenia events), Paul Rogers, Elkie Brooks and a classic Stairway to Heaven with Never the Bride.
Shine on brightly is an amazing album! But for some reason, whenever I listen to it, it puts me into a right depression and gives me feelings of bitterness.
I don't know the name of the bass player. He looks like Mike and the Mechanics' bassist. The black and white Fender bass, he also used to play a black and white Strat on harmonies; also the western hat and clothing, usually all black clothing or near to it. Anybody know?
A true classic! Wonderful! ❤
Pure class End of an era Shine on Brightly Gary RIP
Sheer class. Perfect band, perfect song, perfect setting for their music.
Perfect! I Love You Procol Harum, I Love Gary Brooker!
One of Procol's best!!! Matthew rules!!!
What a superb tight band. Wonderful stuff
Like a whole orchestra! Super!
I was there probably the best gig I’ve every been to with my good friend Neil Christian sadly gone to the great gig in the sky
great band, great music! God bless Gary Brooker and Procol Harum!
Tasty guitar solo as well
Sounds better than the original recording. Love this song.

PROCOL HARUM avec beaucoup d'énergie à la chapelle !.....

The drummer is good and his fills are top notch! Is he the original drummer ?
@@mattseymour8637 Original drummer was BJ Wilson (he left the band in the '70s and passed away in 1990)
@@kodredcud that's the guy BJ Wilson, very good drummer! One of a, kind!
@@mangolassi_. Reminds me of Ian Paice in that he is totally fascinating to watch as well as listen to. First Class
I was at this gig It was the best I’ve ever seen and I’m nearly 70 Buy Rent or Steal the DVD
Great night and we went for a curry with the band afterwards.
GARY BROOKER IS TIMELESS!!!!!
When evereyone in the band is having fun the whole thing sounds great.
Great song and great band, this is "real" music! Love the hammond and guitar bass etc

Lucky! Someone just recently recommended me to listen to this song. Loving the music so far.
Excuse me, Gary Brooker always played on piano, he's not the organist.
Yes we know that. Read it again slowly.
BROOKER !la très grande classe !!...
rest in peace
Killer version. What more needs to be said? Fabulous.
I was at this concert Probably the best I’ve ever seen I may be old but I’ve seen some fucking great bands

RIP Gary Brooker.
Gary Brooker! One of the most generous live musicians ever!!
not with the money
I'm not sure why you don't have more comments. I have searched for this song for so long. Thank you so very much for sharing it. Cheers to you
c'est un de mes preferes en live super G B M F !!

i knew geoff when he was in IF..we were drinking buds ..always a total gent..that would hjave been about 70..i was a muso myself and on the scene
IMO Geoff Whitehorn is the best guitarist PH ever had, and that includes Robin Trower.

Brilliant, just brilliant. But don't we miss Gary.
Geoff whitehorn is a beast
Quality post...
Thanks Rato.

Stand up and claim your dues Everyone not only Matthew Fisher
@rhbxyz
Yes - it is eternal! .. ;-)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Brooker had the impossible task of following up Whiter Shade but came up with this fantastic gem anyway. It fell flat, but not with me!
Can you name the band
Procol Harum
I don't know the name of the bass player. He looks like Mike and the Mechanics' bassist. The black and white Fender bass, he also used to play a black and white Strat on harmonies; also the western hat and clothing, usually all black clothing or near to it. Anybody know?
Matt Pegg, son of Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull bass player
like this timeless 'quite rightly so' music by procol harum...but.. the classic hammond organ volume with unique tonewheel sound is too low
"Keep the tonewheels turning" (#95159) B3. Garys voice has not changed !! Love it !!
That one phrase is as close as I've ever heard Geoff sound like Robin Trower...(do it more Geoff).
There is only one Hammond player for this band and now he isn't with them because he wanted what he deserved all along
I totally agree. I have a Hammond B-3 in here now because of Matthew Fisher. I have enjoyed this since 1967.
Why did Fisher wait for so long?
recognition for song writing?..
Don’t hold back Deal with the problem ASAP Don’t let the problem be a problem It will eat you up
Only one sound on thé organ from Matt ,sounds liké a cinéma s organ !!!
No B.J. Wilson. A superb drummer.
Three viewers are too sick to see ...
Why sick - they just have different taste of music than you Mr. "shit for brain" !
russe crow
fekkin guitar.....................
just goes to show how important BJ was to the band. This clown overplaying is very distracting.
Takes one to see one !
Which one was BJ?
Unfair comment, Anyone who earned a nickname like "Octopus in a bathtub" must have been a bit energetic himself.
