    Why is starting quicker than everyone else is considered a false start!?!? If they want everyone to start at the same time than they might as well put a gate at the start like BMX racing.

      @@chantalameh2652 he didn't...he started 0.042 seconds after the gun...the 0.100s reaction time rule is stupid...what if an athlete has quicker reaction than the average pro athlete...putting a limit on reaction time would be like putting a limit on how quick someone can run or how high someone can jump....

    • @Elliottklassen
      @Elliottklassen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      FreeOnGoal The 0.100 second rule does seem to sit strangely at first, because it makes us feel like we might be penalizing someone talented. However, it’s not just based on the reaction speeds of “average pro athletes”, but rather that there is no scientific evidence to suggest that it’s humanly possible to react within 0.100 seconds of an auditory stimulus. It might not intuitively seem like 0.100 is that far away from our range of possibility, but scientifically there’s no evidence of it ever happening at this point in time. If an athlete does react within 0.100 seconds, it means that they did not react to the gun, but rather that they “guessed” the gun.
