This was the first 4 wheeler I ever owned. I got one when they first came out. I had a blast with it. Very easy to learn to ride on. It will force your son to learn the basics so he will be well prepared for a more powerful modern machine.
Nice job making a video that was much more like you. I had that same little bike when I was a kid. A nice set of tires and you'll be surprised at what your boy will be able to get it to do. Again, nice work. This is the kind of realism I like in your work.
Brother and I got a new lt125 for xmas in 1984. It ran forever. That gear above neutral was called "granny low".lol i picked up a barn find 1984 lt185 two years ago in mint condition with 250 miles on it...still has the safety stickers and whiskers on the tires.lol great beginner machines! Enjoy!
If you have one of these, don't push the primer back in if it sticks out. This could potentially rip the priming diaphragm from the excess pressure. Had to replace mine in a Suzuki ALT 125 because it ripped from that and because it was old. The service manual I have also says not to do it. Not saying all carburetors are like this, but the one shown on this ATV shouldn't be pushed in if it stays out while priming. Once the machine runs it will be sucked back in.
NEVER push that primer in!! If it stays out, it means there is fuel already in there ready to go!! Only pull it, let it go back in on it's own power. Once it stays out, it is then primed. If you push it, it WILL break, and then you have the fun looking for parts for a 30 year old ATV. These things are tanks, and run forever, and are super fun. Very light, quick for it's size. Good for beginners, if you observe of course. Very, very light machine. That rear rack is a very good wheelie bar for young'uns to keep them from going over backwards too.
actually i have the same fourwheeler and once it tips back and the rack hits the ground it cant be tipped back over unless your climbing a huge hill it will just fall back and stand straight up
I grew up on one of these machines. Mine had a trailer hitch that made it pretty much impossible to flip. It was great for learning to ride wheelies. I sold it for $300 for rent years and years ago. I think it's still in the neighborhood. Wow...indestructable. I should see if the guy wants to sell it.
Just bought one made in 83 not running because of the electrical wires were ripped off and lack of pull starter but ordered the pull start and fixing the wiring and hopefully have ignition. After that, if I do, go full into it.
I bought the same a couple years ago complete and not running for $80. Cleaned carb, got choke unstuck and bought a primer and the thing burned oil out the exhaust and manifold. I bought piston rings one size larger than stock and ground them down to fit cylinder after I honed the slight imperfections, valve seals, cleaned everything, etc.. I just got it all back together last week and was not getting fuel from tank, but ironically the thing was literally running on fumes and rich with black smoke out exhaust. I bought a $22 fuel pump off ebay because the oem was so corroded (I will clean up later and rebuild) and put on last night and the thing runs like new. I am no mechanic by any means but have alway enjoyed tinkering. Next focus will be on restoring some cracking on plastic and recover the seat because the cover is brittle even though the foam is complete.
@@25BEDFORD i have a $8 briggs and Stratton fuel pump that is working great to this day. Yesterday I I had to replace the stator coil for the ignition with a $15 China one off ebay and it has the best spark yet and fires up and runs so much better. Mine leaks more oil than it uses but I takes like a month to almost empty out so I keep a pan under her and just screen the oil before putting right back in.
ive got a suzuki lt160 quadrunner. quite literally grew up on it, put it through absolute hell for 18+ years and she finally started smoking this summer. I still wouldnt hesitate bringing out on 100 mile rides. it is the definition of "ol reliable"
Did it have a low gear? I grew up on one, but I don't recall the low gear. Not doubting it, just been so long. It was super durable. 18 months into owning it, the odometer broke at 5021 miles. It amazing to think how many miles must have put on it over the years. The last I knew, it was still in the neighborhood, and that it leaked oil. I should try to buy it back.
Also have a loose tube hanging from the underside of the airbox itself with a plastic fitting on the end idk if that's stock or someone put it on or what
k I have one and it came with a owners manual.. and the shif pattern u think it wrong..... it has four gears and the the one up from nuetral is a high rpm gear for when ur stuck...again owners manual I'm not being tugh just u are going to screw up ur gearing...and reverse it's not spouse to grind ur idel is to high....just talking biker to biker
We just bought a four wheeler just like this. It is our first four wheeler ever!!! We are really exited about it but have one question? Might sound stupid but what is the lever on the handle for? It looks like a brake handle but ours is stuck it looks like it leads to the motor. We are trying to fix it maybe you could explain exactly what it is for. Thank you.
I'm having issues finding any info as to rather or not the air hose off the carb goes to anywhere or just hangs? Appreciate if you have any info or could look at yours or anyone else who may know. It has a smaller tip on the end with a little metal piece on the inside of the line which makes me think it goes somewhere
Hello so maybe you can help me, I've got 4 of these quads and I cant seem to figure out why the chain keeps becoming loose causing it to eat my teeth on the chain tensioner wheel , I'm on my 2nd tensioner and I can see evident's of metal shavings coming from inside the chain case , I'm certain its the tensioner just cant figure out why I have pictures
Charles McNeill Jr I'm just a random guy, but I'd recommend getting him something he can grow into. Soon enough, he'll hate having no suspension, really rough in the trails. And, buying something smaller only means you'll have to buy another eventually if he likes it. So I'd recommend something a bit bigger. I started on an '86 LT230S. It is a manual, so has a clutch. My opinion is to always start them with a clutch if you're gonna get them a quad that shifts. In my mind, if you can shift, you can use a clutch. The younger they are, the faster they learn. Just my opinion, do what you wish with it (I started at 5 with the 230).
+Charles McNeill Jr Dont listen to that guy. This is the perfect beginer machine. Not enough power to do wheelies/roll over. Very, very light, if they tip it over they can stand it back up and if it goes on top of them they won;t get hurt(comparitively) I weigh 270 lbs, prolly more then this machine, I can lift it into the back of my pickup. Grandpa upgraded his 125(i have that now) to a 255 in the 80's. that machine was able to flip itself right over backwards in 1rst. The faster the machine goes, the faster kids will make it go, keep that in mind.
I have an lt125 that leaks out of some sort of tube. I cant figure out were or if it connects or if the intake is clogged. The tube im talking about is the smallest tube located under the charbuerator. Please help. Thanks PowerModz
These quads (125&185) were underpowered. More for a little kid or grandmaw. The 185 had front suspension. They were good for tooling around the summer home. That's it.
My dad had a pair of 1980's Honda 110 ATCs, those things were a blast to tool around the sand dunes with when I was a kid. This takes me back!

Actually he was in first and up1 above neutral is low gear so goes L,N,1,2,3,4 for anyone wondering
So from neutral shifting up is low gears???
I had 2 of these over my childhood. Best 4 wheeler of the era

James Wallace ya and also never grind into a gear
he got on it like a natural.
On had almost an exact one, except mine was an 185.
Mine was a lt230ge

Luckily thise primers are easy to get now. I bought $2 for like $15 and it works fine
gotta love these old bikes eh

it needs a low gear because it is so weak.
The one I have goes neutral / reverse, 1,2,3,4,5
that was a bad ass drift
Didnt think those little 125 went so fast
Mine went around 35.
Quick enough for a non-suspended bike.
25 30
its so funny watching this quad go off a jump, when it lands it bounces up and down like 5 times. almost crushes your back though
We dont call em bone crushers for nothing and keeps chiropractors in business lol
Noooo I wanted too see the turtle
I remember my first ATV. It was a Polaris 200
Also have a loose tube hanging from the underside of the airbox itself with a plastic fitting on the end idk if that's stock or someone put it on or what
My 1985 suzuki lt125 sounds like a raptor an it has everything stock.
Is there a way to put slightly taller tires on the front because every time I take a turn the front tires come off the ground
these things float pretty well you know :)
I remember the days of riding a suzuki lt 80
Thank u it was so help full to me
Do you live in Wisconsin? Because there was one EXACTLY like this for sale near me.

Yo tengo una igual.. lo maximo y quiero restaurarla!!
I have a 1984 Suzuki lt125 and it has no muffler and it is very very loud

Is it a reverse cable?
Decompression lever to start it easily, when you pull start it, it will get unstuck
I like turtles.
I like trains
I like cars
Huh mine had the reverse switch behind the seat
Is that 2 stoked or 4

I have tons of parts for these if anyone needs some
does that quad have a throttle limiter? also, how old is the boy riding. thanks. thinking of getting one for my son.

davenhla Lol another aspect of learning to ride is throttle control. He can't learn it if there's no throttle there
I own one of these, and it will go 45 MPH with my 270 lbs on it. That's fast enough for pre teen kids IMO as a first ride.
That's really hard to believe

its supposed to that's your gas over flow I have 4 of these they all do it small hose to bottom right of carb near the bottom
All I was tought was be carful when I first learned how to ride a quad
is that auto clutch
no, they don't have clutches that is why Louie was telling him to let off the throttle before shifting.
It's an auto clutch
u mean yes not no?
You wanna sell one of those three wheelers?

Frenchy St. Germain do as the instructor says, not as they do
lt125 is slower than bicycle. we raced them. so you don't need a helmet.
