Well done, Brian. I've lived in Spain in the past, visited many times since, and plan to live there again soon. We love the country and the people. We have "un montón" of friends and chosen family in Spain.
As someone who wants to live there, having fallen madly in love with it on visits in 2018 and 2019, I don't know how the Spaniards ever left it to come find us in America. I'm eternally grateful to them for doing so, however. We were behind you in November 2019, and did quite a bit of the same trip you did - going from Barcelona past the Pyrenees into the most gorgeous wild landscapes I've ever seen, and I'm in California! The food - so artisan and delish, and their wines - blew us away too, as did the warmth and friendliness of the people. Viva la Espana!
California was part of Spain for centuries, glad you had the chance to come and enjoy it. Many US people think that British gave the main heritage to US, when that's very far from being true. Viva Californa y Viva España!
No wonder most of Game of Thrones was filmed in many different places of Spain, the beauty and variety of the landscapes is breathtaking. I can't wait for them to come back to shoot House of the Dragon.

Now i am recovered i watched the video again with my wife and we decided what our next vacation will be: 2 weeks north Spain by car. Thank you for the inspiring and beautiful video.
As a Spaniard living in the States, thank you for your video. We have a well-known country, but with hidden gems across it. Because of Covid, I couldn't go to Spain for my holidays and you brought me there for 30 min.
¡Que sepamos conservar esta otra España, porque la Mediterránea nos la hemos cargado a base de bien a cambio de dinero! cántabros, vascos, asturianos, gallegos. ¡Qué suerte tenéis!. Un beso a todos desde Barcelona.
As a northern Spaniard who's been away from home for more than a year due covid and doesn't look like it's going to be able to visit anytime soon I just can say: thank you! This video just gave me so much morriña and reminded me how wonderful it is
I can understand your situation and only one thing i would suggest. This pandemic has thought an important lesson too. Make the most of the place you currently live in as you can travel freely within there, before you return to spain. Take lots of pics, videos, information, trips, foods and you will one day miss this too. All the best.

I'm from Cantabria and I loved your video. No foreign person believes me when I tell them how different Northern Spain is, I'll show them this from now on. Thank you for coming!
LOL, I'm from a little village next to Urederra (the source he visited the 9th day) and I have the same problem you do. I live in Belgium now, and they all have this idea of a fully sunny and beach-y Spain, they have no clue what they're missing...
I live in Germany now, being from Santander myself, and I keep explaining everybody there that Spain is so much varied than the idea Germans have, which is limited to Mallorca and the Mediterranean... they get surprised every time when I show them pictures of the north xd
It´s probably because the stereotype of Spain is Andalusia, and people who only visit the Mediterranean coast find it difficult to understand that 83% of Spaniards are not Andalusian. For us Spaniards, the sound of the Asturian bagpipe is as typical Spanish as the flamenco guitar. I recommend that you visit the north, but don´t forget the umbrella, you may need it more than sunscreen.
@@nomecreona3829 Thx for the advice! It's funny, I live in Vancouver, Canada and rain is all we get! But I know what you mean, everyone thinks we all live in igloo's or cabins here in the Great White North.......but we don't. Lol! Take care.....
@@athenassigil5820 Probably stereotypes create false perceptions. I was born in the Basque Country in northern Spain in a town that is located at the same latitude as Toronto . According to meteorological data, it rains 185 days a year on average. I have seen heavy snowfall in winter every year since I was a child, although I suppose it won't be as big as in Canada because the Gulf Stream tends to warm winters in western Europe compared to North America. But if you ask an average Brit who always comes to spend the summer on the Mediterranean coast in Spain, they will tell you that all of Spain is very sunny. That is why every year when a great snowfall occurs in some part of northern Spain (that is, every year), if you read the British press they talk about climate change and many people are very surprised because they have the wrong idea of that Spain is a country with a climate similar to the tropical one. That's why they don't believe me when I explain that in my city, it rains three times more than in London and that's why sometimes you can see funny scenes like this, usually starring British tourists. th-cam.com/video/rC2jQH0Ek0I/w-d-xo.html By the way, if you listen to what the BBC journalist says in the video, he repeats the false stereotype that this climate is exceptional for Spain, which is totally false. Another future victim :O)
@@nomecreona3829 Your comment is implicitly derogatory. Andalusia is simply beautiful and a real treasure. North-Spaniards have their own sterotypes about Andalusia. My land keeps its own secrets for many Northerners who usually underrated it, They think here's only flamenco, sun and bulls. For example, Doñana Park, one of the most important natural protected areas in Europe. The mountains in Huelva and Sevilla. Grazalema in Cádiz and Málaga, where it most rains of Spain and second in Europe. Sierra Nevada, in Granada, the tallest mountain in Spain's peninsula, always snowed. Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas in Jaén y Córdoba. Tabernas desert in Almeria, the biggest in Europe. Now, let's talk about culture, history, architecture, ....
@@joanhibu6682 My comment has nothing derogatory against Andalusia, which by the way is a land that I love and that has contributed a lot to the history and culture of Spain like many other less popular regions of the country. I simply state a fact, a large part of the tourists do not even appreciate the culture or the architecture of Andalusia, they only look for sun, beach and cheap beer. Ask most of the British expats who have created their own gettos and although they have lived in Spain for decades, they do not speak a word in Spanish and are absolutely interested in nothing about our culture.
I am Spanish, and Northern Spain is definitely not the Spain no one sees, it’s just the part of Spain that isn’t marketed to tourists from the UK or the US, because they want to see bulls and flamenco... glad you discovered this slice of paradise, my plan is to live in Asturias as soon as the restrictions for Coronavirus are lifted!
Not flamenco, but bulls are as traditional in a great part of Northern Spain as in the South. Not really in Asturias and Galicia, which are an exception within Spain indeed, but really traditional in the Basque Country, with very vibrant specific local traditions such as this ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokamuturra ). And same for the running of the bulls in Pamplona, which is also in the north. People often think that Basques are some kind of "extraterrestrials" with an alien language, but in some respects they're closer to Spanish stereotypes as found abroad than Galicians and Asturians.

@@arielsalazar8542 The older I get and the more I travel, I have found that each country has a unique beauty all its own as well as its own variety of unattractive problem areas. As an American citizen, I can tell you that the USA is no different in either respect. I can also tell you that no matter which countries I have visited, I find the results of a small number of miscreants who leave trash in pristine areas, spray graffiti on ancient stones, or choose to scar the beauty there. I would hope that each of us is committed not to be one of those people and strive to reduce their influence.
Beautiful and incredibly diverse. In my small "comunidad autónoma" (kind of micro-state) castles appart we have a desert and a wet Atlantic forest very close between them, around 60 kilometers. So beautiful. I wished I had discovered my desire to go to Spain early on in my life. I visited in 2019, and I can't get Spain out of my head. It's the country of my ancestors and it is calling me to return. The Canary island of Tenerife is magnificent. I met over 11 relatives. Andalusia is deeply rooted with family as well as Portugal. I am so delighted when I view these videos. So happy you are doing what your heart is calling you to do. Yes, it's pretty amazing. Live life.
i am SO glad that the first thing i see in the video is "north of spain". i baptized that area of the world as one of my Homes, planning to be there many many manymore times. Thanks for bringing justice to such a paradise, with also super kind and smiling people
Love your video. Cantabria, Asturias y Galicia are my favorite parts of Spain. At times can be crowded and touristy, but the majority are Spanish tourists. I often stay at a rural tourism hotel near Praia das Catedrais and it can be very crowded, tour buses and cars filling the lots. There are so many isolated and near deserted beaches all along the coast. Just take a road heading toward the ocean and you will likely find your own beaches. Thanks for helping me virtually visit the North!
I agree. Galicia haunts me in a good way. I am trying to make my way back for good. The road I walked beckons my soul to return to make it my home. Still trying since 2019, perhaps in 2023, I pray. Thank you for sharing, I live there virtually.

Wow, Spain is magnificent, and magical.... both the natural, and built environment. You are so sensitive, and connected, an “at one” with the natural environment surrounding you...... and your photography shows that! Thank you for taking us along on your journey....... What a cool guy.
Thank you, thank you very much for showing my land, my cradle, my house, Cantabria. Also thank you for showing my neighbors to the North. It is important for us that the things we have here, our mountains, our sea, our cuisine and our customs are spread throughout the world. Are we a little wild? Perhaps, the climate, and the harsh orography of the terrain has marked us, but we were always noble of heart and good people, we are open to outsiders who come to visit us with education and good manners and I will give you the best that I have in my house when you are my guest, that you already are.
I have lived abroad for 10 years now and seeing the Spain I remember from my childhood has brought back such vivid memories to me... Whilst I am originally from Salamanca (still something pretty different from the typical mediterranean tourism kinda stereotype), my dad would bring us to the north of Spain on holidays to avoid the summer heat, and I'd usually go on summer camps to Picos de Europa or Pirineos too, but I have not been there in a long while now... I miss it so much, and I am glad there is people willing to explore what is to me the most beautiful landscape in the country. I love northern Spain. Also, you have made such a delicate video, it was very emotional to me. So thank you! the video was like being there with you. Michi
I am from here and I think your pictures really captures the beauty of Galician nature and it's characteristic coulours. It feels surreal that you noticed the little things we love like "fentos/fieitos" (the little sort of wild greens? reflecting on the river) I really love them, thank you
Awesome!! No need to feel bad about saying the Ruta del Río Cares is the best route in Spain, it is. I've done it a few times and Los Picos de Europa from Asturias, Cantabria and León. I decided to move to Spain from the UK so I can do hiking like this more often. I live in sunny Andalucía and 16 years on loving it.
I know I'm a bit late to the party but man. I was born and raised in Asturies, and I've been just blown away by this heart-warming and incredibly respectful portrayal of my homeland and my dear neighbors from Galiza, Cantabria and Euskalherria. If you ever go back to Asturies and want to explore it further than Picos de Europa, try la Playa de Gavieiru and/or Bufones de Pría, you are not going to believe the sights, the food, the people. I know I am biased being the land I grew up in but man, it's just different gravy.
This was so beautiful! Thank you for sharing, loved the music, loved the locations and looved how you captured all these places. Photos and pics can almost talk. Thank you 🙏

This video reminds me of so much of Northern Spain that I want to explore! Only spent a few days there last year and was just gasping at the beauty. Nice video Brian :)
Your feel for pacing, for building up and relaxing, in using short video and photos and photo collages as punctuation and points of emphasis on a travel vlog--this was incredible.
Beautiful video and photos Brian, now you understand why so many Spaniards felt “morriña” (homesick) of their homeland when they had to emigrate by thousands back on the last century. Loved the spaghetti western music in Almería, wouldn’t be surprised to see Clint Eastwood around
This was a beautiful video. I was fortunate enough to live in Southern Spain for four fantastic years. Have visited many times since and plan to return soon (permanently) when/if this COVID-19 mess clears up. I love the people, history/culture, food, well everything about it. I’m my best self when I’m there. Thank you for reminding me why. ❤️🇪🇸❤️
So glad you showed a part of Spain that is many times forgotten!!! So glad you liked Navarra with the Bardenas Reales and the Nacedero de Urederra (which literally means in Basque “beautiful water”)

I'm glad that you have discovered, enjoyed and shared this part of our Basque culture and views (believe me , our language also was not expected by many foreign visitors) . Next time, you should move to Donostia/ San Sebastian area and the province of Gipuzkoa. Thank you very much and I hope you will come here again. A few years ago I was doing a "GOT" tour (started in Iceland) and met a friend for a northern Spain tour including San Sebastian & Bilbao. Our taxi driver offered a day trip to Gaztelugatxe with a stop for lunch in Guernica (also art enthusiasts). It was fun to walk out on the rocky pathway to "Dragonstone". The landscape with amazing with unique "rock worms" that form up the cliffs. I was so thrilled to see this part of Spain, which I've toured north to south, and the incredible Basque country. I now understand why they are so proud. On a personal note - I've been vegetarian for most of my life and the ONLY time I broke that was in Spain to taste the Iberian ham. Almost turned me... :D

Thank you for this amazing video. It's such a breath of fresh air to see this video and a great contrast to all those fast pace traveling videos we mostly see. Because of this video we really would like to visit this region of Spain.
Beautiful! Reminds me of both Switzerland coming down the Alps and seeing a green-blue waterfall (breathtaking!) in this remote village that seemed to go back in time 100’s of years and the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland that I visited with our daughter Leah. Great photography and videos. You are gifted by God! Nice work!
thank you so much for showing my homeland (Galicia) in such a beautiful way. Great video and great photos. I'm glad you've enjoyed your stay here! Just so you know Praia das Catedrais in the the province of Lugo, not in A Coruña. It's really beautiful, but, as you've said, too much crowded now. When I was a little girl it was like a hidden gem. Galicia has a lot more to offer, believe me. Ribeira Sacra for example if what you enjoy is nature and landscapes. However, cities are beautiful too. My soft spot is Lugo (where I am from), but Ourense and Pontevedra are beautiful too. A Coruña and Santiago are more famous maybe, and they truly deserve a visit. Hope it's not the last time you visit us. If you come back and want some information, please, just ask. I'll be thrilled to help you in any way I can.
How can anyone not like this video. I was mesmerized. I have a connection with Spain, so maybe that was a factor for me. I wish I knew where you were. That was the only thing I noticed. ¡Que sepamos conservar esta otra España, porque la Mediterránea nos la hemos cargado a base de bien a cambio de dinero! cántabros, vascos, asturianos, gallegos. ¡Qué suerte tenéis!. Un beso a todos desde Barcelona.

Galicia is so beautiful! Lots of love from your neighbour and brother Portugal!
It feels just like home when I’m in Portugal. Beautiful place with the nicest people. Bicos desde Galicia.
As a northern Spaniard who's been away from home for more than a year due covid and doesn't look like it's going to be able to visit anytime soon I just can say: thank you!
This video just gave me so much morriña and reminded me how wonderful it is
And "saudade" too...
I can understand your situation and only one thing i would suggest. This pandemic has thought an important lesson too. Make the most of the place you currently live in as you can travel freely within there, before you return to spain. Take lots of pics, videos, information, trips, foods and you will one day miss this too. All the best.
Im also a northern Spaniard. But also English and live here I miss it so much - very underrated :)
@@sanakiddy2883 don't feel like I'm returning to live there til my elderly days, really nice place but def no job opportunities to grow in there. Love to go on holidays as much as I can tho
@@aishajm1103 I knowwww!!! But I feel it's better that way, I would not like it to be full of tourists as other places in Spain
Hey is it dangerous for solo girls backpacking? To go there
Don't I like it that no one knows it, let them go to Andalucia ;)
@@hellesylt9770I know that you comment that 1 year ago. But in general is secure.
Wow, parts of Spain don't look like how I perceived the country. It's simply beautiful and a real treasure.
@@athenassigil5820
Probably stereotypes create false perceptions. That's why they don't believe me when I explain that in my city, it rains three times more than in London and that's why sometimes you can see funny scenes like this, usually starring British tourists.
th-cam.com/video/rC2jQH0Ek0I/w-d-xo.html
By the way, if you listen to what the BBC journalist says in the video, he repeats the false stereotype that this climate is exceptional for Spain, which is totally false.
I’m drawn to this area. Hopefully will be there next year.
Alli en Asturias de Flamenco NO , al igual que en Galicia, Pais Vasco ,Cataluña , Castilla-Leon. No flamenco.
Bull fighting is an absolutely barbaric custom. When I visit Spain it is certainly NOT to see bulls!
I am from Galicia.. thank you so much for showing the world my beautiful homeland. I love that you showcased the natural beauty and the area's culinary gifts. Simply beautiful! #missinghome

I never thought Spain is beautiful as this. Northern Spain is enchanting!
Never knew Spain was so beautiful. Nice trip and great video Brian.
Yeah apparently it's quite the diverse country. I had no idea until shortly before I went either. Highly recommended.
In my region (Aragon) you can have a ride on camel in a real desert and 104 F in Monegros desert. And 40 km to the north you can have another ride on a sled on the snow between the forests
@@henhaooahneh Amazing. There are a few spots here in the US that are varied in that way. What Brian showed in this video was beautiful for sure.
You'll be surprised to get Arizona and New Hampshire together. Google for "Bardenas Reales" and "Selva de Iraty". Good contrast.
excellent report, it moved me, 12 million British people travel to Spain every year, some ask how such fidelity and love to a foreign nation is possible, words are not enough, images speak, Spain is that beautiful girl for whom you lose your head. love to spain from london.🇪🇦
Love Spain!!!, been to different parts but I always go back to the North, Euskadi and Galicia!. I went to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe before I even knew about Game of Thrones lol. Thanks for the great memories and loved your photos too!.
This video brought me to tears. Thank you for showing us a side of Spain most visitors don't & just how absolutely precious & breathtaking our planet is.

As a Spaniard and a wildlife lover, i wanted to thank you for making such a beautiful video about my country... From Madrid, Spain - Merry X-mas!
This is very high quality, artful, and very calming... thank you. This is the type of thing I needed today...
It feels surreal that you noticed the little things we love like "fentos/fieitos" (the little sort of wild greens? reflecting on the river) I really love them, thank you
This made me cry, I so long to be in Spain. Beautiful, thank you.
Fantastic. Most people don't realise just how varied Spain's geography and culture is. The North of Spain is amazing.
Once time I saw a video about bufones de pria, the waves beating against the rock was stunning
