Andy is one of the best English gentlemen you will ever meet! One of the top 10 guitarists of all time, not by my vote, but by his peers, Page, Townsend, Edge, Beck, Blackmore, etc
one of wishbone ash's finest songs. it will probably be a 100 years before 'persephone' is really fully appreciated. just like young people today discover classical music, so they too will discover the majesty of this truly under rated song and band. it would be interesting to hear a full orchestra and choir attempt to equal the magnificence of this fantastic piece of work.
I love the way the rhythm guitar plays a triplet at the end of each bar, echoing the rhythm of the name Persephone. This is something a musician hears and just does naturally, probably without thinking about it.
So true, sigh, today , it's 99 % AI or software made "instant hits"; and NOONE even knows how to play an instrument anymore, sigh. Instant "youtube hits"; fuckmi....
Just going by the instrumental parts, this is one of the finest rock songs ever 🥇 I like how it feels like a smooth blend of hardrock and progressive rock

One of top 5 concerts ever alto the mushrooms did make a difference. Saw them in Jazzbones in Tacoma on March 11, 2020 and still sublime with Andy and Mark along with the anchor of Bob and Joe...happy trails
Listening to this now, even though it is still in my vinyl collection, reminds me of those smokey nights in my dorm room in those too long gone nights in the late '70's.
I love listening to this beautiful song,a classic in rock songs, in my back garden on a hot summer' day and mellowing out.I can listen to the soulful guitar solo at the end of the song forever.I tend to play this track on repeat for 4 / 5 times.Love this song !!!😎🎸👍🏴🏴🏴🏴
a magnificent piece of music with one of the finest outros you could ever hope to hear if they can send a chuck berry track to outer space then there is no reason why this wishbone ash masterpiece couldn't be either. it is the 1970's equivalent to mozart, beethoven & strauss. it's one of the most requested tracks played in heaven, see you there.
i remember hearing 'phoenix' in 1971 after someone recommended the track to me which started my love of rock and metal music it was the most sensational piece of music i had ever heard and it prompted me to also buy 'argus' and 'there's the rub'. wishbone ash were/are a totally under rated band who may find that it will take a 100 years before they are properly appreciated for the magnificent musicians they are.
They say there is great modern music around if you look for it. Show me ANYTHING in recent years that compares with this. Persephone has always been a favourite of mine.
I'm a total newbie to this band, I grew up in the 80s listening to Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Motorhead, Saxon, Judas Priest etc. as well as of course the Stones and the Beatles. My best mate's older brother had an insane record collection and this was one of the albums he leant me but I just never got around to it. Now listening to it all these years later and man I missed something good.
Glorious soulful guitars that weep with emotion. An old work colleague got me into Wishbone Ash back in 1979. Sadly he's no longer with us. Thanks Al. Miss you mate.
One of the first LP's bought in the 70's and this song, as with good wine, gets better with age. Saw them live in QUB and to date no band has come near to their record sound except Horslips. The golden oldies are still selling well!
It was a song I often listened to when I was in middle school. I was at an age when he was attracted to the heavy sound of British rock. I feel like those days are fond memories.
Saw them in Germany in '70 and Philly '76. So glad to see they're touring again! This time I'll see them w/o acid and hash! Hey I'm 66. Can't party like I used to.
Hi Don. I saw them in 1978 (Hammersmith Odeon) and then again last year when they toured some small venues in the USA. I got a quick snapshot with the band while they signed autographs after the concert in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Nicest folks you could ever meet! Great concert too. if you click on my picture you will see the band and me with Andy!!
Superb! I first heard this song as a teenager. Always reminded me of a close friend. Soon after, we parted ways forever. She moved to Western Australia, I moved to Eastern USA. Whenever I heard this song, I thought of her. We’re in our 60’s now, and we recently began communicating electronically, thanks to social media. We’re worlds apart now, but this song still makes me think of her.
Back again! When I was 15 I got into see Wishbone Ash on an old Status Quo ticket with my mate! Oh wow! What a night! We waited outside and the Colston Hall in Bristol and I didn't have any paper, so I had their autographs on my hands in biro, I didn't wash my hands for weeks!
I been waisting space on this Earth for nearly 67 years. Heard of wishbone Ash in my early adult years but their music was rarely played on the radio. You could get them after 9pm on kaay Little Rock Arkansas beaker street. That was bad ass in late 60s early 70s. They were one of those obscure bands that if you didnt have an intimate knowledge of you would never have heard of them. Thank you beaker street for introducing this incredible band to me!!!
I used to listen to KAAY as a kid in grade school in Central Wisconsin. Every night I would fall asleep, listening to my dad‘s Zenith, portable console a.m. radio. It made me who I am today after following my dreams, and 30 years being involved in the music biz.
@Tom-qx3oq Awesome. Didn't know their signal got that far north. After 9 pm their was Beaker Street that played " underground ' music. After midnight it was Beaker theater . The old radio movies before there was tv
This goes way back to a different world , Wishbone Ash was another Band that was highly underrated, never plaed on AM ,played rarely on FM .it was a culture thing , stilled played at my house on a regular rotation .

THEY HAD PEARL WHITE GLISTENING STRATS & THE LIGHTS WHEN THEY WOULD EFFORTLESS SEND THE LEAD BACK & FORTH WITH THEIR HARMONIES GIVES ME CHILLS TO THIS DAY!! SO UNDERRATED OF A GREAT GROUP!! 🎤🎸✌🏻❤️
I was there for the Styx with "special guest" Wishbone Ash show. I was mainly there for WA, but it was the Equinox tour and Tommy Shaw had just replaced John "JC" Curulewski on 2nd guitar. Amazing sets by both acts. I remember WA had these spotlights positioned up high at stage rear that bathed the guitarists in cones of backlighting and followed them around the stage. Around the same time my UNO frat was auditioning bands for a formal, and some of us went to a rehearsal space in the warehouse district to hear a band fronted by Bernie Cyrus. They gave us their song list and it had several TTR songs on it. I requested Don't Come Back. They cringed, but managed a decent rendition of it. A year or so before one of my frat brothers had booked WA for a show at UNO's gym. Tickets sold out so fast they added a second show.
Always thought this song was, back in the day, about Judy Garland. I was shocked to the core when Martin explained back in the late Seventies that it was about Ted. A glorious piece of music. Laurie was enormously underappreciated. But he wasn't Ted.
One of the most underrated classic rock songs of all time.
Who underrated it?
He's right only Ash fans would know about this lovely song ... sadly.
I gotta concur. I may be clueless but I'm 56 and only had a vague idea of this band until Steven recently started talking them up on BOC sites. I am extremely impressed. First listen to this song today and I love it and just bought it on iTunes. Sorry I missed them for 45 years!

Lyrics for this wonderful song:
There's a light that shines on Persephone
Always a fire in her eyes
And the last time that I went to her
I could tell things weren't right
I just don't care to see your years go wasting
There's no longer magic in your eyes
In your time, you could outshine
everybody else around
But your off-stage ways might be a bore
You take a bow, you take a fall
I just don't care to see your years go wasting
There's no longer magic in your eye
I came to be here in the footlights
To live with you through every song
And your face displays a peaceful field
I can't believe the curtain has to fall
Now I know your years were never wasted
Tonight I saw the magic in your eyes
This is one of those songs that if the solo at the end was 20 minutes longer you still wouldn't tire of listening to it. Just a great band ☺️
Well said 👏
I can't say IT better my friend.
This song is simply beautiful as indeed is the whole album. For me, Wishbone Ash are the finest twin lead guitar band to have ever walked the planet.
Also with their special not comparable sound. Beautiful melodicous and joyplayed songs with melodramatical desire.
Imo the best band. Obviously not objective, but for me they are the greatest to ever do it. Obviously other bands like king crimson, the beatles, queen, ac/dc, etc. are way more influential, but wishbone ash will always be my favorite

When Persephone goes back every year to her husband, Hades, winter begins. A deal made by the Greek gods.
Kidnap her, then marry her... that's how gods acted from a civilisation we regard as outstandingly developed 😂

One of those rare songs that flows smoothly from beginning to end. A very smooth song.
A true classic rock song, it captures the myth of Persephone in the most beautiful way
The last-two minutes is a musical dessert. 🍰♥️

Imho one of the most beautiful classic rock songs, technically good and full of love
Martin Turner's bass part makes this song. For me, one of the most melodic bass players.
Wildly underappreciated. Lots of Jack Bruce in Martin's playing.
Feeling to the max... How about on Sometime World , OMG.
Its almost for me the best part of wishbone ash. (M.T.s bass playing) and im a guitarist as well😁. Definetely criminally underrated
guitar band firstly with a 3rd melodic bass...Andy wrote lots of the bass parts...

Love the soulful guitar at the end.
Pure magic. Love this song!
Simply majestic guitar playing and song writing.
a magnificent piece of music with one of the finest outros you could ever hope to hear
if they can send a chuck berry track to outer space then there is no reason why this wishbone ash masterpiece couldn't be either.
it is the 1970's equivalent to mozart, beethoven & strauss.
it's one of the most requested tracks played in heaven, see you there.
i remember hearing 'phoenix' in 1971 after someone recommended the track to me which started my love of rock and metal music
it was the most sensational piece of music i had ever heard and it prompted me to also buy 'argus' and 'there's the rub'.
wishbone ash were/are a totally under rated band who may find that it will take a 100 years before they are properly appreciated for the magnificent musicians they are.
Incredible bass lines and the strat vs. Flying v interchange is epic. Loved this band since their 1st album.
They say there is great modern music around if you look for it. Show me ANYTHING in recent years that compares with this. Persephone has always been a favourite of mine.
True, but its so timeless and well produced...If I didn't know this band I'd probably think its a recent song
Best bass guitar playing.....carries the song
I'm a total newbie to this band, I grew up in the 80s listening to Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Motorhead, Saxon, Judas Priest etc. as well as of course the Stones and the Beatles. My best mate's older brother had an insane record collection and this was one of the albums he leant me but I just never got around to it. Now listening to it all these years later and man I missed something good.
Glorious soulful guitars that weep with emotion. An old work colleague got me into Wishbone Ash back in 1979. Sadly he's no longer with us. Thanks Al. Miss you mate.
Just same here
steve harris is a huge fan.
High grade rifts and rolling drums. ROCK the 70s which is the best decade for music!!
Hahaha, the rift is where Persephone was missed! Riff is what you mean.
I came to be here in the footlights, to live with your songs, Andy.
One of the most underrated poetic songs😍the music is out of this world...
Simply beautiful and timeless !!
Końcowe solo jedno z najlepszych w historii R'n'Ra.
Beautiful melodic song..
The Mandolin before Lauries Solo makes this Song special.
totally
Totally x 2
no it doesn't
@@justine_hollowayalright buddy
One of the first LP's bought in the 70's and this song, as with good wine, gets better with age. Saw them live in QUB and to date no band has come near to their record sound except Horslips. The golden oldies are still selling well!
They dont make like this anymore. TRUE CLASSIC ON ALL COUNTS.
It was a song I often listened to when I was in middle school. I was at an age when he was attracted to the heavy sound of British rock. I feel like those days are fond memories.
Thanks to my father he acquainted me with Wishbone Ash. Thanks man.
Simply beautiful.
Was tripping in '80 when I saw them at Chicaofest. I ....."think" I remember it. :-D
Don Roussey on ya mate
Lucky you, friend!
Love the mandolin.
Masterpiece!
Now I know your years were never wasted, tonight I saw the magic in your eyes!
I wish my bones and ashes will keep listening to this on the (Perse)phone.
I feel my heart beat so deep and so fast like i am so in love every time i hear this song................no words
I know. I find myself playing it over and over again.... What shall i put on next? doesn't seem to happen
Maybe the best song!
I was lucky enough to see the concert in November 1976, and they played this song. never I saw so great a concert!
Saw them in June 1976 and they played this tune. I became a WA fan that day.
Beautiful song from Devon's finest.
Unexplained underrated fantastic voyageable song!
Thank you beaker street for introducing this incredible band to me!!!
being from central arkansas myself i remember those days
I used to listen to KAAY as a kid in grade school in Central Wisconsin. Every night I would fall asleep, listening to my dad‘s Zenith, portable console a.m. radio. It made me who I am today after following my dreams, and 30 years being involved in the music biz.
@Tom-qx3oq Awesome. Didn't know their signal got that far north. After 9 pm their was Beaker Street that played " underground ' music. After midnight it was Beaker theater . The old radio movies before there was tv
Timeless masterpiece!
The bass man, the bass.......
do u have the tabs by any chance? wanna learn this on the bass (:
@@steveeve No I dont...search around you may find them. Or just listen and learn bar by bar.
Martin Turner is the most talented bass player I've ever listened to and the fact that he sings as well as playing is unbelievable.
The outro guitar solo is just amazing.
This goes way back to a different world , Wishbone Ash was another Band that was highly underrated, never plaed on AM ,played rarely on FM .it was a culture thing , stilled played at my house on a regular rotation .
Wishbone Ash is the best of best.
Possibly the greatest track ever by Wishbone Ash. I never get tired of listening to it.
I love this song
...ciarrrrry...😊😊😊
----------------------------------------------------
Dostajesz brawa, zaliczasz upadki.
Miłego wieczoru i spokojnej nocy
Jarek😊
Ależ...nic nie rozdrapujesz :))
..absolutnie!
Miłego wieczoru i Tobie życzę :)
+YaroSz Nie wiem co Was połączyło Ilona Senti i YaroSz ale to jakoś ładnie spina Polaków tu ;)

Back again. In love with this song.
I totally agree. This is Magnificent. Should be better known!!!!!!!!!!
Superb, extraordinary!
Timeless classic from this fabulous 70s rock group
One of all time favorites. The ending solo is fkn awesome. Orgasmic.....
I absolutely LOVE this song!
The perfect marriage of a strat and les paul. Still get chill bumps.
Actually it's a Flying V.
Wayne Whitehorne
Right you are W.W. I had forgotten Andy Powell's Albert King influence.
Back again❤so in love with this song, hope you get better soon Andy Latimer. Sorry you had to cancel your tour!
This song , More commercially popular BLOWIN FREE BUT MY FAVORITE BY THEM IS SILVER SHOES! LOVE THIS ONE TOO!! I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE SEEN THEM 3 TIMES AT THE LEGENDARY WAREHOUSE IN NEW ORLEANS, LA..
But he wasn't Ted.
i was there in 74 thank you wishbone...
I saw them open once for Foghat, both in their prime. A concert I can still remember 40 years later.
I was there in West Palm Beach Auditorium,Florida. Like it was yesterday. Will never forget the magic of the show. 1974
beautiful!!Classic!!!
