I agree with @rickhensley5963 about the British rock band Wishbone Ash. Their music is a superlative blend of bluesy guitar playing and progressive rock compositions with lyrical content that borders on the mystical. I have seen them perform live, no less than three times in my hometown of Bombay (Mumbai) in India during the 1980s. The lineups then featured Andy Powell and Steve Upton, Turner brothers (once each if I recall correctly) and guitarist Laurie Wisefield as well. Great songs, without any doubt! Argus, There's The Rub, No Smoke Without Fire... all still stand out as fantastic albums along with some of the undocumented live shows (like the ones i mentioned in India).
+Rog Shrubber Myself and friends didn't underrate them. Right up there with the best. They didn't get radio time because the dumbass radio producers couldn't pin a genre on them. How about just kickass music/rock & Roll

The composition, the vocal, the bass, the drums, the guitar work and the synergy are just utterly faultless. If there is a better recorded live performance from a rock band on YT, I have yet to see it.

This particular performance is somewhat of a reoccuring 'fix' for me... We had a power cut last night and with candles lit all around, there was nothing left to do but play a guitar.... As I was noodling around the fretboard, I drifted into the opening solo of Persephone, which I learned to play - albeit crudely - over 30 years ago (when I had the Flying V...).... When the power returned, I just had to listen to this lovely ballad agian, so I cued -up the studio version [There's The Rub] to listen to through my Senheiser headphones... Something I highly recommend your guys try... After which, I've been humming it all day ! Earworms being what they are... So, I had to return to the best live version I know of. THIS ONE.

This has to be my favorite Wishbone Ash tune. It has so much emotion, while it tells a great story. As someone once quoted: "Persephone is like a fine wine, to be sipped gracefully, rather than guzzled down like a stein of beer". I couldn't agree more. Really enjoyed this video and based on the thumbs up responses, 98.2% agree on this.

What is to kill in Wishbone Ash, besides a total commitment to the proposal of a simple, clean and wonderful rock, is to do everything with this quality only with the basic instruments, drums, bass, guitars base and solo and nothing else . And the vocalization ... is awesome! I discovered this band by chance in 1974 and since then my life has changed! Worthy of a Pink Floyd, Led, Deep Purple and stuff like that. Even with the Beatles ... I am a passionate about this classic band and the Argus album is undoubtedly one of the best ever performed by these geniuses, as good as the Sargent Peppper's ... You can't compare the complexity of wishbone ash with led Zeppelin or pink Floyd, and thanks to Alan parson they found their defying sound on their album dark side of the moon .

I used to listen to that when I was a little girl in the 80's....my dad would play this on and on...one of the best music ever created....cheers from Poland ;)
Hard to believe, I first saw WA. over 50 years ago. 1973 in Colorado Springs. I was 15. Still listen to them all the time. Home, truck, Fishing, camping. You get the idea. Second time was during the 2nd Bomb Cyclone in 2019. We loaded our truck up with sleeping bags, blankets, food etc. It was about 75 mile trip. Hardly anyone on the road. WA. made the show in a little van and trailer. About a 1/3 of the people didn't make it,so we got to move down close. Great show. Alot of fun.
McDonnell Douglas, you're right, but so is Laurie's solo in the middle of the song. Utterly beautiful. It's a pity that the camera just misses the flurry of the first few notes. Every note in all of these solos comes directly from the heart.

I love this band and especially this tune. The albums "There's the rub" and "New England" are fantastic recordings.There is just something about the incredibly complementary sound between Andy Powell and Laurie Wisefield during this span of time. Not pioneers but great exponents of twin guitars - Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac were pioneers of this style and Wishbone Ash cite them as a major influence .

I first heard Wishbone Ash in 1972 and they are the best. I've since seen them three times , once each in San Antonio, Houston and Dallas. Come back to Texas, Andy.
I first saw them in Charlotte NC 72 with flash and Poco and Dr John. I've liked them ever since. Bought the as albums. Indescribable music. Listening to them forever. ❤

Saw them in the 70"s when they opened for Chicago in Tampa Fl. I remember the audience was not sure what to make of them. They were ahead of there time.
That's cool. I first heard them 44 years ago and saw them live 38 years ago in London. Then I just saw them again last Month. Still really good music and a great band, even with the new members, Bob on bass guitar, Muddy on guitar and Joe on drums along with original member Andy Powell. I got even autographs and a quick photo with Andy after the show!
Just about my favourite Wishbone Ash song - right up there with "Throw Down the Sword" - I always thought that Laurie did all the main leads on this one - surprising to see Andy in command - anyway, a great ballad, one of the best in rock as far as I'm concerned!

Just brilliant! I saw Wishbone Ash in 76 or 77 (don't remember the date now !!) at Hammersmith Odeon. What a great concert it was. This track rides high along with a few other favorite WA creations.
@themore09 I was fortunate enough to see Wishbone Ash 3 times. They were actually the first concert I ever saw, I was in Indianapolis in a skating rink. The warm up was Vinegar Joe. One didn't need to bring any treats. The smoke in the air took us all there. Wow what a show. Probably about 1973 give or take. The subsequent shows where phenomenal as well.
Wishbone Ash is the best rock band I've ever heard the in the 58 years of my existance. And Persephone is one of my favorites. the rift by Laurie somewhere in the middle is awesome, the way he holds his axe and plays.

My wise older brother got me into Ash when I was still at school and I was lucky enough to see them live in the 70s. This is a terrific performance from all the guys.
Andy Powell's guitar from 6.0 onwards - sublime. This is what I saw in Birmingham in 1976 and this is what made me love them so much. I still do. If you haven't done it already, check out Elegant Stealth - tracks Invisible Thread, Give It Up, A Man With No Name, Warm Tears... They're still doing it.

im 37, so i was around 4-5 years old when this came out.. i used to go to bed listening for my dad to play his albums.. Persephone would always get an airing, the tune would roll up the stairs lift me up and fly me through the sky.. a have played ALOT of music through out my life but this track has always been no1...i read one comment saying it puts you in "one of those moods" how true,

I met Wishbone Ash by chance in the 70s when I was in my early 20s. I'm 73, he's with me to this day. It's impossible to listen to a W.A. song and not like it.

Not pioneers but great exponents of twin guitars - Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac were pioneers of this style and Wishbone Ash cite them as a major influence .

Saw them in the 70"s when they opened for Chicago in Tampa Fl. I remember the audience was not sure what to make of them. They were ahead of there time.

That's cool. I first heard them 44 years ago and saw them live 38 years ago in London. Then I just saw them again last Month. Still really good music and a great band, even with the new members, Bob on bass guitar, Muddy on guitar and Joe on drums along with original member Andy Powell. I got even autographs and a quick photo with Andy after the show!

Just about my favourite Wishbone Ash song - right up there with "Throw Down the Sword" - I always thought that Laurie did all the main leads on this one - surprising to see Andy in command - anyway, a great ballad, one of the best in rock as far as I'm concerned!
I am still simply astounded that I never heard of this band until 2009. They have some fantastic songs.

Just brilliant! I saw Wishbone Ash in 76 or 77 (don't remember the date now !!) at Hammersmith Odeon. What a great concert it was. This track rides high along with a few other favorite WA creations.

I was fortunate enough to see Wishbone Ash 3 times. They were actually the first concert I ever saw, I was in Indianapolis in a skating rink. The warm up was Vinegar Joe. One didn't need to bring any treats. The smoke in the air took us all there. Wow what a show. Probably about 1973 give or take. The subsequent shows where phenomenal as well.
Wishbone Ash is the best rock band I've ever heard the in the 58 years of my existance. And Persephone is one of my favorites. the rift by Laurie somewhere in the middle is awesome, the way he holds his axe and plays.

My wise older brother got me into Ash when I was still at school and I was lucky enough to see them live in the 70s. This is a terrific performance from all the guys.

Persephone would always get an airing, the tune would roll up the stairs lift me up and fly me through the sky.. a have played ALOT of music through out my life but this track has always been no1...i read one comment saying it puts you in "one of those moods" how true,
