Unless I’m going to use that base as magnet control, I usually just set the pole, then tell base to assume point, then run my loc to set up machines… i also run NAD83 with geoid model… I’ve gotten to point I’ll set control on pole with magnet (for me) then I’ll open 3D and go around loc on control points. Lol. I’m definitely sub to your channel lol. Not everyday I run across fellow 3D users lol
That definitely works. I tell everyone there is a bunch of different ways to do, it just has to make sense to you and you have to understand what and why you are doing it. Ive had 3 issues using an unknown point in Pocket 3D, because of that I always shoot the base as a control point. Other than those times it works just fine to do it that way.
I gotta ask, where you find that pole!!! Lol. I need those in my life. I usually use top fence pipe, slide brass nipple in top and screw it in… ZERO rod always.
We actually build those. We are working on getting them on our website for purchase. I've definitely used a fence post as well. I still use them for short term setups or big drone topos.
Yes! Zero antenna height on your base pole when measuring. The amount of confusion that occurs when a height is put on on a permanent pole when units are moved around from jobsites is crazy.. What pole is that you are using for your base? looking for a better option than the Galvanized pole with bolt on the cap...
So true, we've seen it soo many times. Only plus side when it happens is guys usually call pretty quick if the site is 4'-6' ft off. The base pole is one that we make in house. Should have a video on it sooner than later. It's powder coated 1.5" pipe that we build the base and top for.
Can you make a video on how you set up from the point you start. Im learning how to use Pocket 3d and I've notice different ways to localize. I would like to learn using the temp base (unknown CP) way to localize and then shoot a station to relocate the base like you did. My question is even if you have CPs is it good to use a temp base to localize?
I can do that. I'm waiting on a base/rover kit to get in next week and I should be able to get that video done. I've had several other pocket 3D request and suggestions so I will try and get those made and uploaded next week. To answer you're question, I always use a temporary base location to localize, then I shoot in a control point to move my base to. I have had issues with Pocket 3D losing the base location if you localize with the base as an unknown point. I like the temporary method because it creates a local coordinate for the base that I can save if needed for a site recovery.
Not sure what accuracy you're referring to, but the overall accuracy of the site shouldn't be affected by doing it this way, assuming you have good control and properly functioning equipment. It's important to make sure your base pole is sturdy and that you maintain low residuals while taking the base location shot. I always go check control again after I move and restart the base to ensure my base shot is good. If I didn't answer the question, let me know, and I can try and be more specific.
@@joshpurkis7854 good question. I'm going to reference feet because we're silly and still use it here in the states. So 20mm is .065'. Typically GPS is advertised at a .10'. or 30mm. This is not typically the error we see though. With modern technology and proper processes we maintain tolerances below .05' (15mm) pretty easily on machines and rovers.
Hyper v has worked continuously until yesterday at 4pm I randomly lost all satellites to my rover, if I connect to base I can see satellites, once I connect to rover it just waits and waits for satellites, any suggestions?
You may try resetting NVRAM. The almanac and ephemeris data a stored in RAM and once full it can cause some tracking issues. In Pocket 3D, connect to your rover. Once connected click on the box in the lower left corner. Up top you should see a tab that says "info" select it. At the bottom it should say "reset receiver". Hit that, it will give a warning saying it will take a few minutes to reset and recollect almanac and ephemeris data. After a few minutes, assuming all radios settings are correct, it will hopefully connect up. Best of luck, let us know the results.
