Komatsu IMC Dozer - Using Blade Control and Viewing Grade Transitions
Thanks for posting these videos, I have experience with trimble but the company I work for went with Stonex receivers so I really appreciate you taking the time to share this!
We have just started capturing as-built data off our dozer. You need to create a master grid file and import it into your head unit. We create a master grid file for our projects in Topcon 3D Office (Free version). From your desk top, export your control points as a .pt3 file. Import that .pt3 file into 3D office. Once in 3d Office go to the ribbon at the top and go to Grid - Create new Grid - From selection rectangle. Make the window around your control points much larger than the control points. Once you build the grid file to to the ribbon at the top. Go to Grid - Export Current Grid - to .gd3 file. This will give you the grid you need to upload into the head unit of the dozer. Once you import your grid file then you should see it in the window of your head unit. From there you can export your asbuilt information. It doesnt make much sense but it works.
The base coordinates is not stationary it keeps changing, even after site calibration
Most likely the base is set to automatically start when powered on. It will just grab an autonomous position and start broadcasting.
How can I get the base to broadcast with the exact coordinates I feed in with?
If you watch the video copied below. At the 2:20 mark it shows how to input your base coordinates. You can manually enter them, or select from a point. th-cam.com/video/by1_sA03n28/w-d-xo.html
What kind of base pole is that?
It's made by Grade Control Products. They make primarily stuff for Trimble accessories, but the base pole is great, and re-usable. www.gradecontrolproducts.com/product-page/permanent-base-post-7
Can I go higher than 1w is magnet or do I have to change the radio type etc. I’m ci for table using the system for site work but I haven’t ever messed with the radio settings much and want to know what’s best and all my options.
The internal radio board is a 1 watt radio. If you need more output you'll have to use an external radio. There are many different radios that can be easily connected and configured. Pac Crest ADL Vantage 35 Topcon SRL-35 Satel has several different sizes or external radios as well.
Hello please How do i send you a message? I wanted to get the download link for Office 3D, i cant find the download anywhere.
I haven’t tried this yet but I’m wondering let’s say I did exactly like you did with 3 points. I burn them in in state plane and then go back and localized them. Now I’m localized. Let’s say I decide I need more “check points”. I go and burn in another 3 points in state plane. Now do I have to go back and localize those 3 to get my residuals, or do the previous 3 automatically make the new points localized because with gps you need at least 3 points to at least get started?
Seems simple enough. Thanks we’re so busy; my boss doesn’t really have time to show me.
Hey man I’ve set up my gps at a new job site with no design right and I’ve set everything up right by somehow my elevation on my gps is super off to what the surveyor stakes say how can I fix that or do you think is wrong with it?
I just showed up to a fresh jobsite today and all of the engineer's control points on the plans are gone. I tried to do this localization method and my elevations are way off. I know I should be sitting around +10.00' +\- but it's showing -80.00' +\-. I've already called to have new control set but was curious if you have run into this before and know of a simple mistake I might be making..? Thanks for the videos.
You have to make sure you are using a geoid…chances are your elevation is the ellipsoid height not the state plane elevation
😊
Thank you for your content, seriously a big help man.
How do you know what projection data to select?
Hello, i am new in this Business. I have an question. We have an 3DMC Volvo excavator in our compony. And i hav an DWG file with the Lines and Points. Can i Even Transform this DWG file in something so we can use the Lines for that project at the Excavator ?
Thank you this was helpful
do you have to manually type the control in or could you import the Trimble .dc file?
your content is gold to me
I installed Office 3D on my Windows laptop. However when I try to import a .dwg file from all the menu selections that do it, it does nothing. I am able to view the .dwg file using the the Autodesk Viewer so I know the file is good, although the Viewer app says that the .dwg file wasn't created by Autocad. Any suggestions?
I know this is old lol but try converting the file using dwg trueview -> file -> convert, find file again and convert to 2010 version of Autocad. For some reason I have to do this step too, maybe it will fix it for you also.
I got a question for you bud. So at work I use a Trimble SPS930 (basically an s9). I mostly do linework when I do a topo, that’s what my chief likes to send the engineers. In Trimble Siteworks you can create a line, stop topoing and then if I want I can hold on the line and continue that line instead of starting a new line. It’s good for topoing too of curb and gutter. So I’ll take my first shot on the gutter, walk up 20 feet take another shot. Then I walk back to where I started and take a shot on the curb on a new line, walk up 20 feet take a a shot on curb again, walk up take a shot on curb again then come down to the gutter, hold down the line I shot of the gutter continue that line take a shot, walk up 20 feet, take a shot of the gutter. Rod then goes on the curb, hold down the top of curb line I was shooting. Continue that line. Take a shot on curb. Walk 20 feet take shot on curb rod goes to gutter. Hold down the line work of the gutter topo, continue line, take a shot walk 20 feet take shot at gutter. Rod then goes on curb select that top of curb line to continue and then take a shot. And we will do that for our whole run. I get it’s faster than doing a topo of the whole curb line and then once down walk back down to topo gutter. Is there any way to do a topo on pocket 3D where I can start a topo line and then go back to it to continue it or do I need to start a new line once I stop topoing that line?
Can you do a actual walk through of the export to a flashdrive
I tried this today, having to create a v-ditch off the design surface, but I kept getting error like my gps base wasnt talking. Do I need to connect data collector to base and start a new site? I'm very new to all of this, obviously
Is there any way of getting yardages of stockpiles off of topos by doing this???
Create a layer for each, and then Topo the top off the pile ( preferably flat as it can be), and Topo the bottom (toe of pile). Select all points and make each one a surface. Then go to, tools and compare surfaces
Can I get that link?
Thanks for this. Do you know If the part #70406D the same for the new 2.0 topcon machines? We have a D71PXi 2.0 machine and trying to hook it up to Trible 900hrz base...Thanks in advance...
Yes, the 70406-D is the same cable. The machine should have shipped with a small adapter cable that plugs in under the back panel. Komatsu PN: 14Y-06-47930
@@ctpusa1 thanks for the response… I did get the #70406E which has the 4pin deutsch for 2.0 from the good people you recommended over at Western States Cable…
Can you turn that into a 3D model in the field?
That is what this process is doing. It's using the points or lines you shoot to create a surface that you can export to a machine if desired.
Can you add onto the surface? If you needed to extend the gravel lot at a later date can you add onto the existing file or do you start a new surface?
Can I have few ttm files where to download and do we have free software to open the ttm files and others Could you please provide me some ttm files with the same location.
Can you set the base receiver to collect static survey data with this software?
I can't honestly say. We are not using or supporting these anymore. I can say that Stonex Cube A does have this feature and is an affordable software if you're in the market for something.
How do you know what channel to be on?
If it's a 900 mHz radio you can go the base station and look at the faceplate. It will say "NET" and a number. That is the Network, or Radio channel the base is broadcasting on.
Can you do a video on how to take an asbuilt file into a pdf file.
Possibly, what is the purpose of the pdf? Are you wanting to see contours?
Thanks!
can you help me
how to calibration camera pc 1250
hi
How do you get the indicator lights?
You go to the Control Tab and Edit the machine file. Don't change anything in the machine settings, but on the last page it will give you the option to set the indicator lights on the left right and center to cut/fill or offline guidance. I always set them at 3/5 for the setting. I don't really know what that correlates to, but should be easy enough to check it against your cut/fill values if you want to know.
The elevations it measures, is it in reference to some official datum point such as the australian height datum?
Unless you set it to use a different datum it will reference the ellipsoidal height. Here is a link to a decent article explaining the difference between them. www.propelleraero.com/blog/geoids-vs-ellipsoids-whats-the-difference/
Thank you very much
You are welcome
Just curious, Are you a dealer or an end user?
Both. We sell used Topcon equipment, but I started as an end user and then product support through a dealer.
Two point tips to tie in and sort of average out across contour lines.
I could definately see that. I personally just have never found a need to run it. I've seen it cause more problems than it solves.
How do you get those light on the side to work because I run a D61 but the lights on the side do not work
If you hit the Menu>Control>Machine Setup. Select the machine file and hit Edit. Don't change any settings just hit next till you get to the lightbars. You can then configure the left, right and middle to your liking.
@constructiontechnologypart2040 Thanks dude finally got them thanks to you 🫡🫡
I use Trimble at work but i personally own a top rover with pocket 3d. I tried to take all my Trimble files and convert them but when I select the dxf from my thumb drive nothing shows up in Office3D. A lot of the times i get “import failed: invalid format”. Why isn’t my lines work or surface showing up when i bring them into 3D-Office?
Most likely whomever is producing the .dxf is exporting it as a newer CAD file. I typically stick with 2014 and it seems to work well with older stuff. I noticed around 2019 that some of the newer CAD wasn't well liked by the older software like Office 3D.
@@ctpusa1 oh ok that must be it then. There is no way around it then? There is no version of 3D Office that supports newer cad files?
@@littlenel17 7 months later but Office 3D was discontinued by Topcon. They want people to use Magnet now, which as far as I know doesnt have a free version.

Yep, old video. New ones have been much better. I've tried to post edit it, but have not been successful.
nice video man...I have a question i tried setting up my base on a control file I go through all the steps but then at the end it says base position error do you know what might be causing that?
When you say control file, are you referencing the App file in the base, or did you start the base on a saved control point through the data collector?
@@ctpusa1 yea sorry I meant on a known control point
@@mrcupcakeman32 Huh, the base position error is indicating that the autonomous base position is not agreeing with the input or assigned position. If the control point is not part of the localization I could see that happening, but if it is part of the localization I would compare the geodetic coordinates of the saved point vs. the point of the base. You can view these in the log file on the data collector and by scrolling up/down on the main faceplate of the base.
@@ctpusa1 yes your correct something was wrong with the control file and calibration they gave us, I'm gonna find out exactly what the issue was so I know for future reference. thanks alot for your help!
Please help , how can I connect this receiver to the controller via Bluetooth?
Legend, didn’t realize I had to hold the control after raising the blade.
When I active my automatics the blade jumps up and down several inches. The blade doesn’t stay at the same elevation consistently. Is this normal? What can I do to fix this?
There is a possibility that the Work Equipment Handle (joystick) has some excessive play in it. If you notice play in it, it can cause the blade to be jerky or act erratically. There is a service bulletin for this through Komatsu. It could also be a bad design. You could create a flat pad and see if it works any better on a level surface. If the machine used to work fine I would lean towards one of the prior things I've mentioned. If not, it could be a variety of calibration issues or stroke sensor issues. If you don't have a Komatsu TSE to talk to let me know where you are located and I can probably get you in touch with someone near you.
Could you share the LSS toolkit in google drive? can't download
You can download from this link. www.dtmsoftware.com/LSS-Toolkit
I've been using this method for awhile now and just now had a client who went to import the tp3 into their dozer. The dozer will load it up but then when it gets into the grading areas it freezes and shuts down. Any clue why this would be happening?
I would be curious to see the density of the triangulated surface. If it is really dense if can lock up and shutdown the software, especially on older hardware like the GX-60s
@constructiontechnologypart2040 it's for mass grading so my initial thought was the file was just too large but we've uploaded files double the size with no issues but yes maybe the density has something to do with it. I've tried clipping down the surface into three segments with no luck either so kind of at a standstill.
@@fixanythingsavemoney you're welcome to send me the .tp3. I'd take a look at it when I have a minute and see if I have any suggestions support@myconstructiontechnology.com
Is it possible to create a flat plane surface(with the machine as you did in the video), without having the site calibrated and having the base station setup? You mentioned something about"just being connected to a network" could you elaborate on exactly what that means. My intention is to use the flat plane feature before the site is "setup" if that is possible.
You can go to the radio settings a do a "direct network connection". This utilizes the SIM card in the SL-100 modem in the machine to get base corrections from a public or private VRS (virtual reference station) network. I made another video showing how to do it on a Komatsu excavator. I should do something more covering the topic because networks are becoming more available.
How on older model
It should be the same on 1.0 and 2.0 IMC machines.
I usually create 2 text files in Pocket 3d, a PNEED and a LLH one. Export those and import the PNEED to TBC, setting it to survey quality, I make sure my units are correct then I drag and drop the LLH file into TBC, rename the points by adding a letter “A” to them, then I perform a site calibration and match the grid and global coordinates. I make sure my residuals match with localization I have in 3D Office and I’m good to go and ready to export my files.
