South indians were the first people to discover iron. Tools of iron dating to 2400 bce oldest in the world were found in telangana. In the north we only had iron around 1800 bce. But Eurocentric indian history books will tell u there was no civilization in southern india and "aryans"brought iron into india in 1000 bce.

Very good introduction. I read about this 10 years ago. The problem with making Ukku is, it has to be made in ingots but cannot mass produced like modern steel making. Inventing Cuppola furnace changed the way the steel is produced. We have records how British systematically killed the fine weaving community of Bengal and South but nothing to show that they actually killed this art of steel making. In recent years Satyardhi killed this practice of children learning the family trade during child hood where the grasping power in extremely high. In the name of child labor he targetted parents who taught this skill to children. West has awarded him with Noble for killing India's skill.
Farmers use several sickles, axes, farmer swords for their daily use and they never rust. I used them for 20 years in my child hood without any rust. Ancient Blacksmiths developed further by giving high toughness to steel to make swords for Hindu kings. These swords can cut the rock. The barks as explained in video were added initially and cooked in air tight crucibles. The high carbon gives lot of toughness without brittleness. The blacksmiths, of Germany, Japan, US and other Europe countries made several efforts to reproduce this Ukku or Wootz steel but no luck. They are able to bring the wave pattern and the toughness but cannot reduce the brittleness. Though the grain size is fine, the grain boundaries were weak.
I believe, it was recorded somewhere by Sanskrit priests in southern India but one needs to find that right leaf to decode. it. The barks of the trees that are worshipped for Shiva, is a good start if one wants to try it. I have thoughts of spending some time with local blacksmiths after I retire. Great video.

Very noble resolve, sir (Of resolving to undertake this target after retirement).
In fact every literate Hindu should spend the remainder of his life after retirement in writing and researching on our ancient scriptures. Study of Sanskrit should be the starting point.
We should firm some online group to achieve that end. The number of our precious scriptures is huge and the knowledge contained therein is infinite.
We need a mammoth concerted effort to revive this knowledge.
Somebody needs to take the initiative. May be the one out of us who retires first.
Need to form a group, because the target is huge and it will need a huge dedicated army of volunteers.

While watching your video I was wondering how familiar you were with modern steel manufacturing techniques. In particular, you may want to explore powder steel production techniques. Which does gain from the knowledge of the processes and techniques developed in India a very long time ago.
Also, I wanted to mention pencil leads are composed of clay and graphite and the hardness is increased by adding more clay to the composition.
In addition, while diamond is strong, it also shatters easily. The reason why the Indians of old were "mixing" carbides (in the form of plant material) with iron was to create a product which had the hardness of a diamond without also exhibiting the weakness of the diamond, which is its ability to shatter/fracture. In the steel industry, they refer to a steels ability to not fracture as "toughness". The more tough it is, the less likely it is to fracture.

I happened to watch the video on Dhanurvedam first followed by some other videos and then this video, I had a peculiar thought. Since Dhanurvedam explains about the making of weapons in the first chapter and since it covers sword making in it as well, can't we find something regarding or at the least something close to Wootz. I see many of my brothers in the comments section interested in planning and trying to revive this lost art. Well this can be a good place to start. Since you are already in touch with the scriptures can you just check once. Just a suggestion.
One last thing, I have Telugu ancestry and since have grown up in the North, I fluently can speak read and write Hindi as well. I wrote a book on India's Legendary Wootz Steel in 2004 and then out in print in Universities Press in 2013, which hasnt got a mention in this programme (which incidentally predated Shashi Tharoor writing about it mentioned below)..its a pity at one level that these kinds of popular online forums are now in a way invisibilising/eclipsing the actual scholarship of earlier and struggling scholars who published/publish in journals etc..

There is a lesson for Indians here, its the same steel and weapons made of that steel were used by armies of central asia and Afghanistan to conquer and subjugate northern part of India. In other words Indians exported weapons that eventually killed them.

The secret is based on combining the carbon with iron during the eclipse. Same technique used for panchalogam. This allows for gold to be combined with iron which is usually an impossibility as gold evaporates at the temperature when iron melts. This can only be done during the eclipse. From the bloodline of Marudhu Pandiyars.

    Universe(Brahmand) consists of 4 things
    1. Param atma (Energy)
    2. Param tatva (Matter)
    3. Maha kaal (Time)
    4. Kal (Black space)
(Today modern science says time and space are not different. They are different attributes to 1 thing and Hindus use one word for them both 'Kaal')
    1. Param atma
    2. Param tatva
    Both are param (Supreme)
    Hence are equal
    Atma = tatva
    Energy = Matter
    E = M
    E = MC^2 (after solar formation)
Both cannot be created nor be destroyed only translated ( or incarnated) into another form (or body)
    Both are trinity
    Energy has trinity aspect
    Creation +ve
    Preservation =
    Destruction --ve
    Matter has trinity aspect
    Proton +ve
    Neutron =
    Electron --ve
    Hindus personified it as
    Vishnu +ve
    Shiva =
    Brahma --ve
Since energy and matter are two. Therefore two types of worship:
    1. Meditation ( yog atma se param atma)
    2. Idol worshipping (Param tatva)
    Why Idol worshipping?
Hindus do the same rituals on the purchase of car, bike, house, AC, etc which we do before idols
Because a car can be moulded into the shape of Natraja(God) but there is no change in the composition of proton, neutron or electrons.
    Functions of Param tatva
    1. Protons and neutrons are also connected to the nucleus
Brahma and Vishnu are also connected through navel cord (Nabhi)
Nucleus' hindi name is also Nabhi
    2. Electrons revolve around the nucleus in their rings depicted as Shiva's dance in the ring of fire.
    Functions of Param atma
    1. Preservation
Vishnu the personification of preservative aspect of the Universe energy
    Or
    Simply Vishnu the Preserver
1st avatar of Vishnu was fish 🎏
2nd avatar of Vishnu was turtle 🐢
    Now in last 150 years
Science said the same about how life evolved and preserved on Earth
Param atma + Param tatva + Maha kaal + kaal = Universe (Brahma or Brahmand)
The highest manifestation of Brahma is Par Brahma ( Multi Universe )
    1. Creation
Universe born out of nothingness(0) and will merge back into nothingness (0)
Nothingness represented by 0 given by Arya Bhatt
0 is an ellipsoidal shaped shivling which banged and infinity came into being 1,000000000.....
    And
    The Universe
    2. Destruction
Since Universe born out of nothingness (0) and will merge back into nothingness (0)
Shivling is the source of creation as well as destruction
Shivling (0) has two functions (Creation and Destruction) hence 2 types of worship
    1. Creation(0) - inner consciousness
    2. Destruction(0) - surrounded by a ring
    1. Creation (0)
Pouring water on shivling and placing shivling near water bodies symbol of cooling down it's energies so that it wont bang
    2. Destruction (0)
Bhasma aarti - raining down of human ashes on shivling shows the destruction of human
Now science says there's a destructible energy Black hole and in the same way it destroys planets into dust.
    How Shivling came?
Shivling is Syambhu (self created) out of consciousness.
    It's like
We sleep and see dreams when we lost in consciousness
Same consciousness is the reason of the creation of the universe.
    Crux
    In Vedas
    It's written
    Worship both
    1. Sambhuti (Matter)
    2. Asambhuti (Energy)
Otherwise you won't get it right
While we only worship Param tatva (Matter) and not param atma (Energy)
    So
Do meditation. Meditation was also given an equal importance in our scriptures.
All sages did meditation. Ravan did meditation, Buddha did it, Christ did it, Shri yukteshwar giri did it, Paramhansa Yogananda did it, Swami Vivekananda did it, and many sages are still doing it somewhere and are empowering themselves.

If they say Brits gave us Railway network 🙂
    Tell them this...
Actually Brits build railway network just sufficient enough to bring looted wealth to the port so that they can load it to the ship for Englend...
*Now to make you feel the same, let's take example*
Suppose thieves came to your 3 storied large bunglow, they brought a ladder along... They looted almost every thing and left behind the ladder... So a neighbour comes to your house and says " aww such a gentle people ...they gave you a ladder...wow"*
PS: And btw today the expanded railway network is there in india is by indian govt after the independence till today... otherwise Brits just built it sufficient enough to serve their purpose and not with any welfare motive...

It is "URUKKU" in Tamil, the root word is "uruhu", which means melted steel, and "ukku" means rotted. Tamils invented steel and they have traded it with the Egyptians in ancient times. The carbon they used is charcoal from coconut shell which is used by the iron and good smiths to this day.

Wootz steel is a crucible steel characterized by a pattern of bands and high carbon content and it originated in South India, in present day Kodumanal, Erode, Tamil Nadu in the mid-1st millennium BC and exported globally. There are several ancient Tamil, North Indian, Greek, Chinese and Roman literary references to high carbon Tamil steel. Wootz became truly popular in the 3rd and 4th century as trade items imported and sold by the arabs in the city of Damascus, in what is modern Syria.
