How come you didn't mention THQ Nordic's acquisition of Piranha Bytes? And, THQ Nordic's acquisition by the EMBRACER GROUP which owns Amplifier Game Invest, Asmodee, Coffee Stain Holding, Dark Horse Media, DECA Games, Easybrain, Gearbox Entertainment, Koch Media, Saber Interactive. -Obviously, when EMBRACER GROUP snagged Gearbox Entertainment, much of the game world media didn't even notice. The Group now has an extensive catalogue of over 250 owned franchises, such as Saints Row, Goat Simulator, Dead Island, Darksiders, Metro, MX vs ATV, Kingdoms of Amalur, TimeSplitters, Satisfactory, Wreckfest, Insurgency, World War Z, and Borderlands and many others. Sooooo, funding going forward for Piranha Bytes may greatly increase; and their previous, beloved 'Euro-jank' style of production may be obsolete. /ymmv

They have improved the combat in the sense that it no longer has that weird combo timer bar thing or whatever you want to call it - kinda similar to how combos were performed in Witcher 1 by timing your clicks. It was okay once you got used to it, but I'm glad they got rid of it.
I cant really explain why I loved the first game, but I did. It had tons upon tons of issues, was super janky, and ridiculously complicated to get anything accomplished. But man, it was fun as hell to me. Ill be picking this up for sure when ER and FW are done.

I'm still stuck on a 970, and i'm not going to pay for a 1070 as much as a 3070 should actually cost. So with a heavy sigh, for the first time, i bought a Piranha Bytes game for console (PS5).

I am definitely getting this one sometimes this year as I get some more time on my hands! It ticks many boxes that I look for in an RPG even if it has some flaws
That's a good way how to treat rpg games. Never expect from them to be all-in-perfect package. I go to rpgs because I like open world fantasy games with quests and lot of freedom to explore every inch of the map. Piranha bytes nails most of that, so I enjoy their games a lot, mostly Gothic 3 (still playing it today), Risen and lately Elex.
You know, it’s funny the first game is rough the combats not great but man does the story ,lore the fiction just hits for me that futuristic post apocalyptic setting is my favorite sci-fi. So yeah I keep coming back to elex. Can’t wait to play the sequel.
Picked up the first Elex and am currently playing through it. Its fun as hell for sure. I happily pre-ordered this one to support the devs. Game is addicting as hell.
I remember people saying elex 1 was hard to get through in it's beginning stages and because it was piranha euro jank bytes, but I found the game pretty easy and a perfect rpg akin to a fallout where not everything is right, but it's fun and has character. Tons of games for me just feel boring or lifeless to explore for example.
I did enjoy the game but my main problem is even by Pirahna Bytes standards, it takes way longer to be able to fight things. I played both Gothic 1 and 2 this year and I could get somewhat strong only a few hours in.
Elex 1 wasn't really fun for me, frame rate was not good to say the least. I'm stick with elden ring for this month. Hope whoever does play it has fun with elex 2
I think this video paints an accurate and useful picture of what to expect from Elex II (telling by what the first game was like at least), but for me the review starts at 6:18. I really don't think there are a lot of people out there who are going to compare production values in Elex II to those of Elden Ring or Horizon Forbidden West. Chances are most people who are going to take an interest in this one are already familiar with Elex or other Piranha Bytes titles, and know better than to expect triple A stuff for this title. Great video though, as usual.
Gothic 1 (and 2) were probably my favorite games of all time. Elex 1 had moments where it scratched that same spot, albeit never quite as well. I'll definitely try Elex 2.
For me it's Risen 1. I wasn't really around during the Gothic era and while I've tried going back to play them I've found that they haven't really aged well. I feel like you had to have played them back then to be able to enjoy them now. I know THQ has planned to remake Gothic 1 (which confuses me a little because I thought PB got the rights to Gothic back) but after playing the demo they released I'm not too sure about it. The "For Honor" style combat just doesn't sit well with me. I just want the classic hack'n'slash type combat that Risen 1 provided.
@@arstulex They did but PB was brought out by THQ and they stated themselves that this was what they wanted in regards of being brought by THQ. I used to have an issue with janky combat, but then I played the Witcher 3, and realized that if these aaa devs could get away with it, I shouldn't really care.
I've just started playing the first game after picking it up from one of the Playstation store sales, and there is something compelling about it. Even coming straight from playing Forbidden West, I'm finding it an interesting world to explore. I'm only a few hours into it at this point, but hopefully, I'll pick up Elex 2 in a sale in the future.
2017 was arguably one of the better years in gaming, ever. Having three open world games in February of 2022 doesn't mean much to me. Variety on the other hand ALWAYS wins.
Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos free on steam. Wanna see how this standalone Gothic 2 mod puts every other modern RPG to shame? Id love for you to try it and give your opinion.
Elex is a game I really WANTED to like. I WANTED to like it so much that I dropped like 20 hours in it before finally giving up over two separate tries. The skill system was honestly super annoying, the leveling felt very slow, you are basically always just barely getting by in the game and it never really provided anything that made you feel like you were progressing. The towns were annoyingly large, they were full of people I didn't want to talk to, questing was annoying when running around these big city locations... it sounds like this is more of the same. Thanks for the great review, man! Looks like they didn't really improve any of the issues I had with the first game.
Thank you so much for your commitment and consistent amazing reviews, especially this busy month !! Very excited to see what the rest of the year holds in the gaming world!
Im fully on board to play this! The clunkiness of PB games is a big part of why I like their stuff asstrange as that may sound. Gives it a certain character that works.
Ahh well, even if there's not that many upgrades to the first game I'm still hyped to play this. Elex 1 was just awesome and I'm so tired of all the games that pander to the lowest common denominator/mainstream crowd. These kinds of games always have flaws, but I find Eurojank more interesting and worth playing than most AAA games.
Already refunded my copy. The performance is atrocious and the camera is horrible. Can't zoom out like the first game. So disappointing hopefully they can patch it up.
Can't wait to dive into this one after I'm done with Elden Ring. I really enjoyed all of Piranha's bytes games ever since Gothic 1 so I've been anticipating this release.
its like they had someone punch jax in the face a few hundred times then let it heal naturally then stabbed him in the throat then tried surgically fixxng it which gave him a new voice...
Well, for me this game is incredible! :) While after the GOTHIC games I had less fun in the Risen trilogy (While Risen 1 was a great start for sg new, I felt the 2nd part bit dull, & the 3rd part just OK, compared to the GOTHIC games.), I really like the world & atmosphere of this new title by Piranha Bytes, ELEX! After playing now over 100 hours, I think ELEX II is a worthy continuation of the story of Magalan's inhabits.
If the Elex franchise and Pirhana Bytes games in general weren't that grindy, despite there janky nature, they would be among the best RPGs in the market. But it's just too long to have any real sensation of progression in their games, and I fear it will be the same in Elex 2 :(
Piranha Bytes games are kinda unique in that the world and its enemies doen't level with your character. The enemies' levels are predetermined at the beginning of the game and never change. This is cool because it acts as a very natural way to keep the player in the right areas. it also gives the player a feeling of true progression when they encounter an enemy that oneshots them early in the game, but then go back there later and tackle it with their higher combat levels and gear. The problem is they often struggle to tune it correctly. As cool as Elex 1 was, I had to stop playing because the game got to a point where I was having to grind levels in order to actually be able to tackle the enemies ahead of me and be able to progress in the game. In my opinion the only game they truly got this right in was Risen 1, and I'd also consider Risen 1 to be the greatest game PB have ever made. It's really a shame they butchered that series by turning it into 'fencing pirates, the game'.
Nice review, I quite like PB games and recognise their limitations as well as where they sit in the grand scheme of gaming. I enjoyed my time with Elex and will certainly pick up the sequel. Wait is quite an apt rating for me though as I'm going to be pretty busy with Elden Ring on PC as that game is very hard but fricking awesome...
I absolutely loved the fist one jank and all. I really hope the second one is as good if not better. P.S So many games coming out I think I might go bankrupt from it but hey at least ill have games to play.
Elex reminds me of the sci-fi movie that Willem Dafoe or John Malkovich makes in a few weeks and nothing else is coming out, so you watch it. Always spot on Karak. Love the eurojank, because somehow it proves Bethesda, with hundreds of people making a game, can deliver what a team of forty only needed two years to produce.
Elex one was one of the few games I ever hit 100% on...I don't know why I loved it so much but it just spoke to me. I'm going to let this one brew a little more before I dive in.
I've just uninstalled Elder Ring when I saw ELEX 2 came out. This game has so much more story, and the choices REALLY matters! No regrets playing the first Elex! One of those games you don't ever want to end main story. Im actually pretty stoked for Elex 2 experiance! glhf
Seriously, you got rid of Elden Ring just to play Elex 2? I'm torn between the 2, but having played Elex 1 I really did enjoy it. Elden Ring feels more dark and lonely if that makes sense, it's hard to explain, but I could be wrong. Some reviewers say they can't put down the game. Which would you recommend I play first?
@@paradoxic1888 Personally I love games with a story and story choices. I love watching cutscenes and interact with people in game. That's just me. Elex 2 is def a winner when it comes to story and engagement.
@@VonDutchNL So I've got a couple hours in already with Elex II. The start is a little rocky and cringe, but man the world feels so alive. I get bored of games very quickly, but still I'm thinking about it even now. Your decision have meaning unlike Cyberpunk, and not many games can pull that off. It's not for the AAA rinse and repeat fanboys, but you can tell so much passion went into this game. Definitely giving me positive vibes.

Don't know what game your playing Elden Ring runs smooth as hell for me. New xbox maybe?
@@Konfide4043 probably pc it’s running badly over there
I've just started playing the first game after picking it up from one of the Playstation store sales, and there is something compelling about it. Even coming straight from playing Forbidden West, I'm finding it an interesting world to explore. I'm only a few hours into it at this point, but hopefully, I'll pick up Elex 2 in a sale in the future.
We are in a blessed time. Gaming hasn’t it like this since like 2017-18
2017 was arguably one of the better years in gaming, ever. Having three open world games in February of 2022 doesn't mean much to me. Variety on the other hand ALWAYS wins.
@@pedrochevez2090 Honestly
2011 > 2016 > 2007 > 2017
@@soku890 2016 was pretty good. 2007 too, to an extent.
I have and am still playing the first Elex. Sure, its no triple A game, but it's still fun and I cant wait to buy and play the second one!
Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos free on steam. Wanna see how this standalone Gothic 2 mod puts every other modern RPG to shame? Id love for you to try it and give your opinion.
finnished it last week and it is definitely the best mod ever, i put in 160 hours in one playtrough.
basicly what should have been gothic 3!
I pre-ordered this game 2 weeks ago, I just can't wait to play it
Elex is a game I really WANTED to like.
Elex 1 îs great
Elex seems to be as close to a "Thundarr the Barbarian" sim there ever was ... (see Saturday Morning Cartoons).
Thank you so much for your commitment and consistent amazing reviews, especially this busy month !! Very excited to see what the rest of the year holds in the gaming world!
I feel like this game has been getting next to no play online by the gaming media, thanks for the review!
Im fully on board to play this! The clunkiness of PB games is a big part of why I like their stuff asstrange as that may sound. Gives it a certain character that works.
It doesn't work long enough to spend hours in it though more like minutes lol
@@DEVILTAZ35 How so? I finished 1 with 2 play throughs no problem. 2 different builds.
I am so ready to inject this eurojank goodness directly into my veins! Thank you for such a prompt review!
Glad you review games like this.
Loved the first one, finished every faction. Downloading this atm, if it's in the same vein I'll enjoy it
Already refunded my copy. The performance is atrocious and the camera is horrible. Can't zoom out like the first game. So disappointing hopefully they can patch it up.
What Elex did so great introducing a Jet Pack to the open world. Eldin Ring made to most useful awesome Horse ever seen in a game.
After playing now over 100 hours, I think ELEX II is a worthy continuation of the story of Magalan's inhabits.
damn, the uploads are just incredible !!!
Euro Jenk! Ha! I never heard that before and I love it. Still finishing Elex 1 before starting II.
ACG - The channel with the reviews i trust the most. Good review as usual o7
I'm freaking waiting for this game to have the 'install button' appear in my steam library.
With the game being $45, it has a decent price point.
Ah yes another Piranha Bytes, all the jank we can't help to still love. Played the heck out of Elex 1 will definitely get this.
Elex one was one of the few games I ever hit 100% on...I don't know why I loved it so much but it just spoke to me. I'm going to let this one brew a little more before I dive in.
Mans on the grind, man February is chalk full of games
Chock
I went ahead and bought it - I enjoyed Elex so more of the same is fine by me. I'm sure they'll patch it fairly quickly. Thanks!
@@martinoplaya7805 Yeah that's about right up my alley. I'll give Elex a go first.
@@paradoxic1888 Elden ring is just a lonely grindfest.. I can't understand why people like that game.
I hope everybody just keeps in mind that when I first thought I was going to try Elex 1 all the reviews were horrible and then I played it got used to the combat and in my opinion it's one of the greatest games I've ever played. You shouldn't ever not buy a game because of a review
Ummmmm what????
@@Clawbomb people can have opinions? No way…
Well... Objectively Elex 1 is not good, but I like it anyway. This looks like a continuation of that with the same map. I'm gonna get it eventually when it's cheap. Give me this for 12 bucks and I'm down.
I’ve been looking forward to this!
elex 2 cant wait to get my copy tomorrow
This mans been busier than a one arm bricklayer in Baghdad
Didn't you get the Jetpack in ELEX 1 also right at the start? Pretty sure.
I fucking love these games gothic 2 had so much to do. Did shisha in the town square would recommend.
I got this game yesterday never played elex 1 but so far it is a lot better than I assume. The world and people in it are cool so much to do
Cant believe I missed this, absolutely loved the 1st one although most of my gaming friends hated it. Will give it a go over the weekend. Great review as always K
I love 3P action rpgs!! Elex 1 was great. Of course I bought 2. But the worst for PB is the release date. Almost everybody is deeeeep in Elden Ring now, me too!
Now this is a real an honest review! An you got a better PC setup than that IGN guy from Corporate who claims framerate issues! Yea this game releasing next to Elden Ring 💍 was a strange move indeed though.
Yo Elex 2008 wants their game mechanics back
Everything about the game is good except combat. If they fixed combat this would be a solid 8/10.
Lmaoh bro do you get to even sleep this month??? Kudos for all the hard work. Been with the channel since Lord's of the Fallen..Amazing to see the work ethic hasn't changed but the viewers certainly have :) well deserved !!
I'll still give this a game a go, as soon as I'll sink a thousand hours in Elden Ring.
See you in a few weeks Elex 2. With this review, I'm going to lower my expectations so I'm not gonna be harsh on you!
Thank you again for an amazing review ACG.
SO HYPED!!!!!
Love these games. Just started elex 2. Already hoping for a 3
That would be a crazy, cool cross-over...6:42
The first Elex was actually pretty nice, but yeah, it's getting a little long in the tooth and there's a lot more competition now. Doesn't look like it improved much from the original.
I love me some janky euro RPGs. I loved the first one
Can't wait for this game. Not sure why they changed the UI though, it looks worse now.
Best way to describe Elex: The crappiest game that I absolutely couldn't put down.
Nice waiting on this one. 👍
